AC: I vote for none of the above. I predict Clashy will return for the sole purpose of condemning us all to Hell and telling us that we are all unworthy of any more of his attention. At least that is what I am sure he was going to do until I predicted his next move. Now he does not know what to do. Because he does not want to prove me right. But I was right, wasn't I, Clashy?

space.com dates Noah's flood to 2350 B.C.
by aChristian inthe watchtower society dates noah's flood to 2370 b.c.e.
they do this by following bible chronology quite closely, counting backwards from 607 b.c.e., their date for babylon's destruction of jerusalem.
however, as we know, the society's date for that event is in error.

Screen Name vs Character
by Amazing insince my character is part of the issues that have been addressed by several posters, i thought that i would clear this up:.
teejay said: conclusion: no more insulting than you when you mentioned that one has to wonder about someone who'd pick the screen name "amazing.".
i am not sure if teejay shares agreement with what he quoted, but for discussion sake, i will treat it as though he does.

Clashy: You said, "I id though took one semester of biblical Greek at the Masters College"
Gee, Clashy, that's great! I only wish you had taken some English classes. Then maybe you would be able to read and write well enough to answer some of the questions I have asked you.

I wonder how a worldwide flood person reacts to stuff like this article I just read on the Net. Anthropologists have just found cave art which they have dated as being 70,000 years old. Wouldn't a worldwide flood have destroyed such things if they were made before the flood. If they were made after the flood then the "worldwide" flood must have been longer than 70,000 years ago. Does anyone know when fundamentalists date their worldwide flood?
They Found WHAT In South Africa?
By Cathryn Conroy, CompuServe News Editor
Cave art--and it's far older than anything previously found. Anthropologists have found prehistoric art in a cave about 180 miles east of Cape Town, South Africa. What makes this find extraordinary is that it dates back 70,000 years--tens of thousands of years earlier than conventional wisdom holds that humans could do such things. What was found were elaborately carved pieces of ocher, a red stone still used today to make powder and paint. The tools are utilitarian and decorative. "I think these are abstract images, deliberately carved, which have some symbolic value or some symbolic meaning to the person who carved them and also to other people in the cave site who lived there," Christopher Henshilwood, an anthropologist at Iziko Museums of Cape Town in South Africa and also of the State University of New York, told Reuters. The abstract carvings, which are similar in design to cave art dating back 35,000 years, could indicate these early cave dwellers had modern language. In others words, humans 70,000 years ago were mentally evolved. They were more than thugs. They created art. The Blombos cave site which is located on a 120-foot-high cliff has been a bonanza for anthropologists, who have previously found 28 decorative bone tools there. Henshilwood's team found evidence these humans fished. "Fishing is also one of the markers used for modern human behavior," he told Reuters, adding that it is significant the carvings were found in Africa where humans originated.

I am an African American. I do not talk that way and I resent your "joke." Racial jokes and streotypes are just plain dumb.

Clashy: You just said, "The burden of proof is on you show me the exact reference that rules out any interpretation of Gen 1-3 usage of yom to be a sun up to sun down or any equivalent or 24 hour."
I know I probably shouldn't ask this. But don't fundamentalists teach that God did not create the sun until the fourth "day" of creation?Doesn't that sort of "rule out any interpretation of" the first three creative days in Genesis chapter one as being "sun up to sun down" days?
Clashy: You just said to AF, "So Alan you filthy liar ... you are too lazy and to dishonest ... you liar ..."
You then said to AF, "Your slanderous accusations have to stop."
Clashy, you are truly amazing.

Clashy: You are really a very funny guy. You complain like crazy when someone does not take the time to respond to every word of a couple extremely long articles which you didn't even write. But you refuse to even answer a few short simple questions which I and others here did write. Can you say "hypocrite"? If you can, say it while you are looking in a mirror.

Clashy: I noticed you ignored my questions about a global flood, just as you did with those of someone else early on in this thread. I can only take that to mean that you can't answer such questions. To me that means that your interpretations of Genesis might just be wrong. Since they can't be defended. And one more thing. Your calling Hillary a liar was a very unclassy thing to do. And I think very unchristian. When AC picked on your spelling and grammar he oppologized and asked your forgiveness. Are you gonna now do the same to Hillary? Or is that only something "anti-Christians" like AC do? I haven't yet made upmy mind if I think the flood was local or global. But if I had to do so based on the "Christian" conduct of this debate's participants I sure wouldn't come down on your side.

"A Day for a Year": I Need a Beer
by Farkel ineveryone wants to find meaning and purpose in their life.
people who have been taught to believe in the bible seek stuff in the bible to give them meaning in their life.
some people make up stuff supposedly based on the bible to give them meaning in their life.. the watchtower society goes one step further: they make up stuff supposedly based on the bible to give their corporation meaning and importance in life.. far too many true believers have a difficult time accepting what should be obvious to any rational human: the bible meant exactly what it said.

Farkle:
You wrote: If the society were to be consistent, the 3 1/2 times or 1,260 days in Revelation would be a period of 1,260 YEARS.
Right you are. In fact, it seems to me that at one time in the Society's history they did just that. Starting those 1260 years with the fall of the Ottoman empire, or with the establishment of the Papacy and ending them with some battle of Napoleon, or with the French revolution, or with the invention of the electronic cream separator or with some other lunacy. (looks like someone just answered this)
