  just though i'd start a thread devoted to languages, dialects/sociolects and accents, with the idea being that posters can comment on any language, or dialect or accent of any language, on this thread.. any phrases, expressions or idioms that you find interesting are also welcome.

  first, the subject of english accents came up on another thread.. the british isles have many different types of accent (although many of the dialects may be dying out), and if i start to take a closer look, i can't help but see 'patterns' .... in received pronunciation of standard english, the letter r is pronounced initially, between vowels, and after consonants, e.g.

  red, arrow, break.

  zeb ,i`m not so sure aussies fit this criteria OP in as much as we aussies tend to be more lazy in our speech.

  I dont think 2-3 hundred years by whites in australia would/have produced very much difference in dialect

  I have only lived in Victoria and Queensland both for many years and the differences are minimal .their is certainly no problem understanding anybody from any of the states that exist in Australia.

  I think the example you give demonstrates that , as does , owyagoin ,gday

  .Certain states have different words for the same thing such as port in Qld ,school bag in Vict. meridian strip in Qld. and nature strip in Vict. but again I dont think that is what the OP meant

  It never ceases to amaze me how people like your wife/ex focuses on your failings ,percieved or otherwise yet fails to recognise or admit their own failings,wrongdoing.

  JW news release and deception - The "High-Profile Case" in Russia

  i found this interesting bit of news release propaganda by the jws on their website dated april 5, 2017.. "russia's supreme court begins high-profile case against jehovah's witnesses".

  my interest was piqued by the jw claim that the court hearing is a "high-profile case".

  For anybody who thinks the Governing Body are genuinely misguided or delusional to the point that they truly are directed /guided by Jehovahs Holy Spirit

  This should be a wake up call

  This type of deception is not the first and it certainly wont be the last highlights the Governing body know exactly what they are doing and that is to mislead the rank & file into believing they have the truth alone and that Jehovah God is blessing their efforts .

  When in fact they are fully aware that no such reality exists .

  The Governing Body use lies and deception to pull the wool over the eyes of all those under their influence.

  Arent their more than 40 different dialects spoken in Italy ? Why would this be so in such a small country?

  my therapist inspired me to start looking on the bright side.

  even though i've pretty much given up listening to the bs and usually tune out the meeting by playing on my phone/tablet, i find the local needs talk oddly fascinating.

  probably because it's the only part that doesn't seem outlined to death (at least at our hall), and you truly don't know what you get.

  If we are further away from perfection, why are we more moral?

  as we know, witnesses teach that adam and eve were perfect and then committed the first act of sin and rebellion.. they in turn were cursed,and we all declined as their offspring.

  humans supposedly lived shorter and shorter lives, and became more imperfect and sinful.. the further away in time humans go then, they should be getting worse.

  so why is it then that as a society, humans have actually improved in so many ways?.

  Why are we more moral ? Because we dont commit incest and havent done so for thousands of years ,and we dont just send murderers away to a land of fugitives in exile .

  Apparently their was a lot of immorality going on back then in cains day to have a land of fugitives.

  Were the first family Adam and Eve and their offspring moral ? Of course not they practised incest for hundreds of years .

  One of the first offspring of Adam and Eve namely Cain murdered his brother Abel ,was that a moral act ?

  Lets not get started on the GOD these people worshipped designated by the 4 hebrew letters .

  He was a bloodthirsty vindictive jealous war mongering GOD that was responsible for millions if not billions of deaths up until the end of the fourth century BCE.and then miracoulasly became the GOD of love wanting to save all mankind.,while for the next 2000 years he sits back and watches millions if not billions more die due to his indifference to their plight.

  Why are we more moral ? because our intellect is not hampered by superstitious religious dogma of any persuasion

  W/T Feb.2017 ,So why are their many christian religions today that have far greater numbers than JW`s ? Isnt GOD blessing them more than us ?

  All religions can claim they have called upon people who have been praying for help in their time of need .

  Jehovahs Witnesses cannot and more importantly do not claim to be any more favoured /blessed by any God than any other christian religion and back it up with concrete facts.or evidence.

  And I will gaurantee any evidence /fact they provide can be matched by any other Christian religion.
