Ummmm, I'm still skeptical. La Jolla is a MUCH older and more established neighborhood than Linda Vista. If anything was possible, Linda Vista would have split from La Jolla and not vice versa. However, comma, with regards to the Spanish Congregations, anything is possible, I suppose. I doubt there are many Spanish congregations in La Jolla though;hispanics who cannot speak English probably don't live in La Jolla. They just clean the houses and pools there and return to their homes by bus to Linda Vista.

A few La Jolla neighborhoods put Beverly Hills to shame. Linda Vista is one step above "Sanford and Sons".

Nonetheless, I'm sure the documents my good friend Barb provided are genuine. She rarely makes a mistake when it comes to her research.

I haven't read any of those documents yet, BUT:

This is total bullshit. I lived in San Diego most of my life and that statement is bullshit. La Jolla is on the coast and is a gentrified neighborhood. Linda Vista was a VERY poor neighborhood up on a hill above north Mission Valley and about 8 or nine miles away from La Jolla. There was probably at least a dozen congregations between the two areas. a There is NO WAY Kingdom Halls from those geographically diverse and economically diverse neighborhoods could have ever shared anything together, not a Kingdom Hall, and certainly not a congregation.

Linda Vista was the community which was settled when the Vietnamese boat people landed in San Diego in the mid-1970's. I've sold real estate in both Linda Vista AND La Jolla, so I know. Within just about 2 years, I sold a Linda Vista home for $34,000 and a LOT in La Jolla for $318,000. San Diego is a huge city, the second largest city in California and I lived there in 1986. "Brothers" in La Jolla would no more put up with "brothers" from Linda Vista than I would put up with an elder trying to bullshit me on Watchtower doctrine.

It must be a misquote, or something else.

Stones are notoriously stingy when it comes to contribution boxes, and stones don't give a shit if you DF them.

Besides that, if stones did cry out it would be proof positive that God was making them do it, and their words would always be true.

we weren't thinking critically.

or, we trusted the source and simply accepted the wrong thing.. a great deal of our misconceptions come from genuine authorities like our parents:) who are crammed full of untrue ideas they learned from equally.

Yes. Although I did well in mathematics, I fought it the whole way until....I took physics in my junior year in High School and then it magically became crystal clear to me how practical math could be all through life. Not only that, but I learned more about math through physics than I learned about math from taking math.

If teachers could start students at a very young age and instill the value of knowing it through age-appropriate practical examples, perhaps more students would embrace it or at least pay enough attention to actually learn it.

i read with interest the thread about how people who are mentally out yet still attend (some) meetings manage to do continue to do it and it got me wondering, how do those of us who are completely inactive, no longer practicing members of the faith, manage to pull off our new ex-jw life, yet never invite scrutiny or investigation from former friends, elders, etc.. take me, for example.

i've been out several years now, but have never officially renounced my faith.

i've never out and out called it a crock of shit to anyone who could make real trouble for me.

I saw a lot of pontification and puffery in your replies and some good pointers to publications to learn more about math, but unless I missed something, I didn't see a simple answer to your question. I'll give it a shot.

Equations have bullshit on the left and bullshit on the right, separated by an equals sign. This means, of course, that all the bullshit on the left comes out to the same number as all the bullshit on the right. So, if you change all the bullshit on the left in any way and then change all the bullshit on the right in exactly the same way, left and right will still be equal. If you add say, 10 to the left side and 10 to the right side, left and right will still be equal.

Equations always have an unknown value that needs to be found in all that bullshit and the way to solve them is to separate that unknown value from the other bullshit so that only that unknown value is either on the left or the right, i.e. ALL the bullshit on one side equals that unknown value.

Without going into more detail, solving equations usually involves one or more steps increasing or decreasing the values on each side equally until that unknown value stands by itself on one side.

Studying either physics or more simply, storybook problems will make math come alive for you and help you to see just how useful it can be in your life.

So get crackin'!
