i hated it.
we actually never really did.. once, on vacations, we were with another family, they prepared food on the table for breakfast .... and then nobody could touch it for some 15 minutes, when daddy was reading daily text and asking childish questions ... family members were raising hands and answering .... we all were hungry... watching the food ... and hoping it will soon be over (i dont mean armageddon, i mean daily text...) i felt just like an idiot..... albert.
.
I always tried to be a good dubbie- but couldnt get into it. Even at bethel fell asleep during morning worship.
don't you hate the hypocrisy when you run into a witness you haven't seen in over 5 years (even thought they live less than five miles away in the same town) and they say, "we miss you at the meetings?
" they can't call or stop bye to say hello, but they miss me at the meetings.
what crap.
Its really the only thing they can think of to say. "We miss you" - well come on over anytime- you know where I live. You're always welcome here (except when I have the place decorated for xmas!!)
reports have been heard that brother price has been getting his 10 hours of field circus in for awhile, allowing him to get the privilege to carry the mics at the kingdumb hall.
the 1st time he was handed the microphone (with the stick attached (we all know what ones i am talking about)) he started thrusting it in a very innapropiate way (pornia).
this caused the elders to end the meeting right there and form a judicial hearing.
Did he party like its 1999?
freddy franz working as the main writer/oracle under the knorr administration, came up with these very magic numbers.
he said that mankind would be 6000 years old in 1975, despite all scientific evidence to the contrary.
more importantly- somehow, he made people believe that 6000 was a magical number, necessitating the destruction of more than 99% of mankind that year even without a single scripture in his new bible (which he wrote).. oh, you may say there's scriptures that say 1000 years is as a day to god, but we aren't talking about a day or 1000 years.
OK- so "crazy" may be a bit of a mischaracterization- People who lived before geology and biology and paleontoloy were developed to the level that they were in the 1800's- is probably better. Most of the scientists in the 1800's chuckled at the 4000 BC date- because they had found fossils and sediment layers, etc that were older than that.
Its interesting that 7 is the number of things that a person can easily remember (if its a field of interest- if not- usually only 2 or 3) How many state capitals, canadian cities, brands of tvs, etc can a person name- hard limit usually at 7. So marketers remember 7 as a magic number. I gotta believe the bible's master marketers figured that out at some point.

" Bishop James Ussher was able to use the ages of famous pre-flood personages in the Bible to estimate the number of years between creation and the flood. In 1650 CE, he published his book "Annales veteris testamenti, a prima mundi origine deducti" ("Annals of the Old Testament, deduced from the first origins of the world.") He calculated that God had created the Earth in 4004 BCE. A decade earlier, Dr. John Lightfoot, (1602 - 1675), an Anglican clergyman, rabbinical scholar, and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cambridge had already arrived at an estimate of 4004-OCT-23 BCE, at 9 AM. (We assume that this was either Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) or Jerusalem time)."
Crazy people tried to figure out the "creation date" of the earth for a long time- but by the 20th century only Franz and a few other loons still believed that- since geology had proven that the earth was 4.5 Billion years old. (I crack up at the 9AM thing!!)
does anyone here have any catholic experience or have friends who are catholic?
although i'm wiccan all the way, i'm still checking things out and would like input about it..
I definately agree that catholic charity is a good thing- and they are quite effective at it. But I prefer a more symbolic interpretation of the mass. The service does seem to be somewhat exclusive (exclusionary) too. "If you arent a catholic or if it has been a long time since your last communion you should refuse the host by placing your hands together and instead be blessed by the father." (No holy communion for you- you nasty little Lutheran!!)

I went to a neighbor's son's first communion. I appreciated the way the priest interacted with the children (walked up and spoke with them). I liked the "peace greeting". Then the priest said something that really set me back. He said that the most important thing that a priest can do- the main reason a person becomes a priest- is to change the host into the literal body and blood of Christ.
I was floored. Not building hospitals, not feeding the poor, not serving as a sanctuary for those who have none, not defending the sanctity of life- nothing real. Changing bread and wine into the literal body and blood of Christ!! The pretend stuff is the most important!!
That did it for me. I enjoy the ancient ritual, but ignoring the real in favor of the imaginary was just too much!
i just had a chat with a friend i haven't seen for a while.
he knows we're inactive.
he was trying to encourage us by relating what he heard at the convention, saying "the end is near" and then proceeded to tell me that what stood out the most was how many times the society emphasized "family worship" night at the convention.. it got me thinking, why did they get rid of the book study arrangement in private homes if they're so keen on forcing people to have family worship night?
I still think that it was a move inspired by fear of liability. If you have an organizationally sponsored event in a private home then the organization has some liability for what happens there. I think some molestation must have happened at a book study. The legal department is the only department able to make the GB move so fast.

Let them go to the KH- then they can all write great tell-all books in a few years.
