  What's Wrong With Having Hope?

  i have noticed for some time now, that when anyone mentions having hope in something said by the bible, some come forth and start asking pointed questions designed to denigrate that hope.

  if one says they hope there is a god, someone else will come on ask how could that be because of all the ills in the world.

  if it is said that one hopes the earth will be restored by god, another will come on and start asking what about lions being vegetarians, and eating birds and mosquitoes and such.

  Thoughtful topic.......

  I think that "hope" is a negative thing when people use it as an armchair rather than a beacon, and my opinion is that JW's use "hope" as an armchair.

  Hoping that God will wipe every tear, and restore the earth, but doing nothing to achieve that goal. Its like hoping one will get a job, but never applying for any jobs........

  the early day motion that helen clark has made in the house of commons, westminster, calling for a government inquiry into jehovah's witnesses.

  exjws and others around the uk are now lobbying their own mps in support of this.

  would you be able to do an article on this in the guardian?

  However, I don't think he likes getting suggestions for issues he should write about. I have e-mailed him a couple of times, but I got a snotty reply saying he had no further plans of writing about JW's. Unfortunately for him the BBC had to drag all this stuff up, so he did end up writing about it after all.

  My reactions to this article.

  How nice that the Watchtower spokesman has found his voice again, given the desperate attempt by everyone from the Watchtower to speak to Betsan Powys while the programme was being compiled. Intereresting that the reason that they would not contribute is that current JW's were involved. That contradicts what outraged JW's have been posting on the BBC message board about the programme being full of nasty evil bitter twisted apostates.

  I still don't hear any denial of any point raised by the Panorama programme, but the admission that the cases that were featured were ones that should have been handled differently.

  I also see that elders are now counceled to report allegations made to the proper authorities - this does not specify law enforcement authorities though......maybe it means the CO?

  I have seen a message on another board to the effect that a letter has been sent to all presiding overseers in Britain to read out at today's meeting. The WT study will be shortenened to allow 25 minutes for this. The general content is that Satan in manipulating the media, apostates are behind the programme, and that the facts are being twisted.

  If it is the case that the WT is being misrepresented by this program, I look forward to hearing that they have taken their case to the Broadcasting Standards Commision, which deals with matters of taste and decency and accuracy in broadcasting. The WTBTS could also sue the BBC for libel. Somehow, I don't think that that will happen.

  i want to share this experience i recently had with everyone here.

  last weekend i spoke to my good friend who was a jw elder but has since stepped down, nonetheless still calls me on a regular basis despite my being df'd.

  first he tells me that the dateline topic is hot.

  If Dateline have aired a program that contained big fat lies I would hope that the WTBTS would be pursuing this rigorously in the courts. Isn't that happening? Didn't think so........

  i had an idea that i could build a uk map of everyones location which would show you instantly who is in your area from jwd.. (it might be an idea to do a seperate us one aswell but i'll wait and see if this one takes off first, or if anyone from the us wants to volunteer to do that one).

  (and australia but you are all in the same backyard anyway - literally!!!).

  anyway, all you have to do is post or email me your username and town and i will draw you on the map above which will change gradually to include everyone!.
