It might be easier to dress modestly. Think about it, there is always admonitions against slits in skirts (which a lot of skirts have), too short dresses and skirts, etc. Not to mention not having to worry about someone peeping up your dress as you walk up the bleachers at the DC. Or the wind blowing your skirt up during service. I know the brothers are told to dress like whatever the buisness standard is in the area, but what about the women? Most professional women I see are NOT wearing dresses. Esp. not long flowy flowery dresses! They wear dress pants/button down shirt/ jackets. Most witness women I see dress like conservative southern baptists, esp. the older ones. Does anyone else agree?

Meeting RollerDave and seeing his aposta-truck up close
by Gopher insometimes when someone new comes on the board and makes a big splash, you wonder if it's all for real.. rollerdave arrived on this board in the last couple months and has lit it up with his insight and wit, including recent experiences dealing with his old family and congregation.. after i pm'd dave here i learned he was indeed the same dave i knew back in a north-side minneapolis kingdom hall oh so many years ago.
we talked on the phone last weekend and actually got together for the first time last night.
as i expected he is just as genuine and witty and fun as he shows on this discussion board.

Do Witnesses have a Stronger Brotherhood than Christendom Does?
by gumby inthis came up in discussion between me and a fellow ex-dub buddy of mine.. as jw's, we had a brotherly unity.....at least many of us did.
if we were going somewhere and needed a witness to watch our place....even stay at our place, we had no reserves about being ripped off by them.
they were closer than some families members oftentimes and we even preferred being around them as opposed to "wordly" family members.

I have not gone to any other churches other then witnesses, so I can't comment about that part. I do have "worldly" friends that are closer to me then any witness ever was. And they help me out of love, not forced duty. It is refreshing to be around people who are not trying to keep up an image of piety.
I will say that when I was evicted from my home and ended up with no place to live, the local brothers did squat. Not even a ride to the kingdom hall so I could attend meeting. In contrast, when I was looking for an affordable place to live in south florida ( a difficult task ) a workmate who is very involved in her church offered me her own bedroom. She is an incredibly sweet lady who really cares for others. She showed me more compassion, unselfish kindness, and a listening ear more then any "sister" at the hall ever did.

A group of Mormons came by my parent's home when I was 17. I answered the door in a pair of short shorts and t shirt with no bra. They just stood there staring at me...they asked if my parents were home, I told them no, then more staring and mumbling. I don't think a pair of 19 yr old guys were prepared to meet a somewhat scantily clad girl at the door.

Well my grandpa just died...
by bluesbreaker59 inso, i get the call today from my aunt, who still speaks to me, and she fills me in, and tells me the visitation is friday (i'm not going), and the funeral is saturday.
my dad told her that he wants me to "sit with the family".
i never went to pay my last respects to him or talk to him, because he was an elder forever, and i was told he wouldn't speak to me, so i never went and never sent a card, nothing.

So sorry to hear about your grandpa, Also sorry you have to go through something like this.
As far as people at the hall saying they miss you, I'm sure some will. I also think most will keep the contact brief. My mom was disfellowshipped at the time she found out she had cancer, and my grandmother actually consulted the elders before visiting her...they told her under the circumstances it was ok to show compassion. WTF!? I loathe that attitude. It makes going through a loved ones illness or loss of a loved one so much harder. If you really want to go to the service, then go. Don't let hypocrites make you feel uncomfortable. (easier said then done)
