I asked my dad if he'd heard about this and he had. He heard that the older child was playing at someone's house nearby and that the baby was home with the mom. He also heard the husband was arrested. I know how rumors can be, so I think most likely these things aren't true and he just heard wrong, like most things witnesses hear. I've had a rumor about me that I was getting together with an "apostate" from another hall even though I actually haven't talked to this person in probably 15 years. So I can't take his word for it, but it is what he has heard.

Matt, I live near Troy, IL and I also attended a Spanish Congregation around 1986-88 maybe. It may have been the only spanish hall back then. That name sounds very familiar but I don't remember his name as an elder from the hall I went to. I'm sorry for you and your family.

What the bad Witness kids called each other...
by wanderlustguy inwe called our fellow bad brothers and sisters "itnesses"...not quite there...
-
r.a.m.
There were a lot of kids in the big city near us and they were pretty much all bad witnesses. Although I wasn't a great witness, these kids were obviously "worse". They were underage drinkers at house parties, without chaperones, very accepting of everything and really good at hiding each others secrets...etc. We called them "city witnesses".

What about your JW past are you thankful for?
by nvrgnbk inin the interest of self-healing and finding the peace that comes from being grateful, can you think of anything at all that was positive about having been one of jehovah's witnesses?.
not to be misunderstood with missing something about it, is there something about the experience that has enriched you?.
to answer the question myself, being forced to face the fallacies of the teachings of jwism, i was also prompted to look past those teachings and reevaluate everything i believed in.. that experience was frightening and unsettling, but i'm thankful for it.. i now have a greater appreciation for life in all its wonder than i did when i took it for granted as one of jehovah's witnesses.. i'm more determined now to find meaning in this life, after having lived for so long for a future that was never to arrive..

Because of growing up as a witness, I never did drugs or smoked.
I was mostly moral, and I am happy about that.
I met my husband through them.
I had some great friends I never would have met if I hadn't been a witness. They left way earlier than me and although I can't call myself their friends anymore because their lives are totally different than mine, even though we are all not witnesses anymore, I am very glad and lucky to have known them.
I learned some about God from them, milk, not meat.
I learned how to shed preconceived ideas about God and religion.
I learned that religion is a farce and that Jesus' body is NOT dependant on religion, though some of Jesus' body may be in religion for now.
But in reality, although that was my upbringing, it was God who helped me learn all of these things. He just used what was in my life to show me who He is and who He is not. I imagine He would've done the same if I had grown up in any religion, or no religion at all.
Praise God. -

If we really lived by the rules of the bible

within the first months of trying to live by the rules of the bible, a.j.

This guy followed the Old Testament and completely ignored the New Testament. If he really wanted to follow every rule, then follow the part with Jesus.
How about not looking at a woman so as to lust for her?
How about don't even have contempt for your brother?
How about love your enemies?
How about seeking frist the kingdom?
How about loving God with his whole heart?
How about healing people and casting out demons?
How about not talking obscenely?
This guy spent a year following the old law. Jesus fulfilled that law. The new way is Jesus. Faith and love. Is that in the book? -

FORGIVENESS
by tula inare you obligated to forgive someone.
......if they do not ask for forgiveness.
......if they show no remorse for the transgression.

Some scriptures...
Matthew 6:14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Jonh 20:23 If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven. -

Yes, you should forgive others even if they haven't expressed remorse. Even if they deny they did wrong.
Jesus died for all people knowing that most of them would not accept him. His death is for everyone, even while they were sinning. What if he said he couldn't die for us unless we first admit our wrongdoing? Where would we be? He died for us while we were not remorseful. He hoped we would eventually accept his offer. We can do that to.
Can you forget? I don't even think God would want that. Otherwise, how would you learn from it? Forgiveness teaches us humility, love, selflessness, peace, endurance, faith, and all the fruits. If we forget, we would really miss out on understanding God's love.
Also, once we are able to forgive, God helps us to find peace with the situation. And we can honestly feel even a love for the offender. Even when they have done terrible things to us.
I don't think we are expected to go out of our way to then hang out with that person, but we can still be good to them. -

Hilarious quote tonight to one of my "ex" friends...
by bluesbreaker59 inso tonight, i have one of my buddies over that is a fader, and we're sitting around eating some smoked pork and bbq beans that i made over the weekend.
one of our "conditional friends" called me and asked if he could pick up his mail, that he had forwarded to my house.
you see our former friend has a credit card and cell phone that he doesn't want his dub parents knowing about, so he had it forwarded to my place.

As humans, we all have the ability to overcome badness in ourselves. We do this by having faith in God. I don't really think people are born with badness or mental issues. I believe that satan and other bad spirits run this world and, if we aren't completely relying on God, us too.
I do think mental drugs can numb us to the evils that come our way. We rely on the drugs, and not on God, and we fall prey. Of course, not that all drugs do this. Alcohol could too. And our past, if we were abused maybe, that makes us feel like a victim, which again enslaves us. If we rely on God, we can have strength against evil ans sickness. And not be trapped by our past, drugs, alcohol, abuse or anything else.
