What is the meaning of true spirituality?
by ele_lux ini was trying to figure out the answer to this question when i came across my notes of a talk by the do in the 09 circuit convention.
he said the world defined "spirituality" however it would suit them; according to their own religion.
he gave example definitions of spirituality (being in touch with nature, spiritism, going to church and reading the bible, etc.

Does the Watchtower contain photo's of the Devil
by jwfacts ini have not been able to find any photo's of satan the devil in the watchtower.
there are photo's of the serpent with eve, satan's hand offering kingdoms to jesus and a shadowy cloaked figure speaking to jesus on the mountain.
apart from that i cannot locate any of a proper looking devil.

It's not surprising that the Watchtower would depict the Devil as handsome, after all, they LOVE the guy and that's who they work for.... but aside from that, they like to put the REAL pictures of Satan in the literature by MIRROR images or half-images.... that only the initiates can pick up on.....like this one...

Let's say for argument's sake that the Garden of Eden story is literal. God sections off this relatively small patch of land with flowing rivers and makes it a paradise. He's got all the animals there, millions of species, for Adam to name. Just outside this garden, including the entire rest of the earth however, is a dried up wasteland filled with thorns, thistles and weeds. So the Garden was perfect, but the rest of the world was a challenge to even the most hearty individual. It wasn't a lot of fun for them after they were cast out of the Garden.
The question is, did God create a perfect world and man ruined it? Or did God create a primordial-like wilderness for man to cultivate? It makes all the difference in the universe for man to know why he's here. Is he the problem needing a savior, or is he the savior of the problem?

Can we understand the Bible without the Watchtower?

Yes, it's highly entertaining to watch Bible apologists jump through hoops to defend the atrocities of the Jewish God. No amount of direct quotes of God calling down rape, incest, pillaging, murder, taking spoils, taking young virgins as booty, using treachery and deception to trick opponents, and putting every living thing in a conquered land to death including animals, will phase them. It's as if different rules apply to God. Since his ways are above our ways, he can say one thing and do another, and it's quite alright. There must be a loophole in the laws of the Universe when it comes to Divine Will. And yet the Devil is the father of the lie.
Shelby, read Judges 11:34-40. A jackass named Jephthah promises Jehovah that he will sacrifice on the altar the first thing that walks out of his house if Jehovah gives him a victory in battle. Of course Jehovah obliges because he just hates losing battles, in fact no one should survive a battle with his chosen property. Obviously never even considering the possibility, it turns out to be his daughter. As Jephthah is somehow shocked by this, he first prays about it, and then STILL feels compelled to carry out his psychotic promise anyway, and Jehovah allows this without a further word. We are supposed to feel better after we read that it became an annual event by the girl's friends to memorialize this sad, sad travesty.
Sorry, but I can't love this monster God, he belongs in Hell for HIS egos to be dissolved.

Is Annihilation of the Unrepentant Wicked Justice?
by Ding inwe all understand the justice argument against hell: the idea that god might decide that a wicked person's sins merit everlasting conscious punishment offends our sense of justice.. do even hitler's sins merit never-ending conscious punishment for all eternity?.
we know that the wtbts takes an annihilationist view of the "everlasting" punishment described by the bible.. they teach that there is no separate "soul" or "spirit" that survives physical death and that the ultimate fate of the unrepentant wicked is annihilation by jehovah.. let's assume for the sake of argument that they are right.. is this justice?.
over the years, the wtbts has flip-flopped on whether or not these wicked people will be resurrected for purposes of judgment or whether they simply will remain dead with no hope of any sort of resurrection.. let's look at various possibilities.

This is why it's so important to try and grasp the Bible's underlying meaning as a metaphor.... it explains all this! ....and to read more of the Dalai Lama. We're not separate distinct entities that exist on our own, we're part of a whole, but we're very fragmented. That means that there is a part of us that cannot be destroyed (the "I AM" part!), otherwise God would have to destroy himself! What's cutting us off from God is our chattering egos, otherwise known as "Legion"... these "demons" are what have to be dissolved in the Lake of Fire, and we can do it while we're living!
I was just looking through my bookmarks, trying to find the best article to explain the difference between our egos, and the spark that makes us "in the image of God"... (there are many great articles!!) and I came across this very interesting read.... this explains SOME otherwise inexplicable people I have known....

Brotherdan, I sure hope it wasn't anything I said... maybe what's going on at home right now is affecting how you feel about this place. And I really do feel for you, I've kinda been there. We have to take care of real life issues first before discussion forums, and I pray that you keep your family together and you all get out of the cult and live happily ever after.

Not the case at all brotherdan. Throwing it away is not necessary. How long have people been trying to understand this book without cognitive dissonance?
Taking into consideration that THE literary style of the entire Biblical era was METAPHOR and ALLEGORY gives the Bible the same authenticity as the ancient myths. People learned deeper truths from them, but very few took THEM literally. The LITERAL or what is called "vulgar" reading of the text is designed to keep the uninitiated powerless while the priesthood dominates them, acting as "mediators" and collecting tithes while they withhold the spiritual truths from the metaphors that would clue a person in on how to awaken his consciousness and connect with God directly. In that sense, the Bible is one of the most amazing books ever written, filled with spiritual knowledge and wisdom that transcends many levels. It can be applied to the world, the physical body, metaphysical science, astrology or the Universe. There are MANY profound interpretations that really expose the literal reading as the "milk" that Paul spoke of. When we're ready for the meat, then we can really appreciate the Bible's depth.
But hey, this is just where I'm at. It's okay where you are too! We both love God, and God loves us, and we desire to help people. That's really all that matters.

I never said God was an evil person, just the version of him found in the OT. I'm wondering how "false worship" justifies ethnic cleansing? How does this make Jehovah any different from any other genocidal maniac?
With all the stuff that's been posted on this site, showing how the OT is filled with Jewish fables taken from older myths, I'm surprised that I even have to go this route.... but carry on dear brotherdan. I really enjoy your posts.

wow brotherdan, you're absolutely right that God is Love, so which old testament are you reading? The one I've read is the most blasphemous and incriminating description of God I've ever seen.
While WTWizard uses some slightly more colorful adjectives, his viewpoint is exactly the same as the Gnostic kabbalists and in my opinion, right on the money. Jesus was very clear that the God who sent him was not known by the world. If we are to take him at his word, then obviously the OT God was not the Most High.
It is really beneficial to seek out the interpretation of the Kabbalist Jewish Rabbis when it comes to the OT. They themselves have some stinging words to describe the intelligence level of people who believe them literally.
Throughout ancient myths, the Serpent represented the Life Principle. Take a look at a sperm cell and it is very obvious why. The entire Bible is astrological. There's a good reason why the Zodiac was inlaid in the tile floor of the Temple, according to Josephus. Lucifer is indeed the light bearer, which represents the planet Venus, the Morning Star. Jesus himself claimed to be that same Morning Star. This is why many saviors have 12 disciples.
This is all a bit of a quandary, unless there's some truth to what WTWizard is saying.
