Have any of u guys seen the documentary knocking

it seems very pro jw and 1 sided i want to know what u guys think though .

its airing on may 22 and im gonna check it out to see what kind of bs is in it .

I've seen it and I'm sure JW's will be pleased with it. It focuses primarily on two families.

1. One young witness who refuses a blood transfusion for a much needed surgery.

and

2. A holocaust survivor who is a JW and reunites with his daughter who is not one.

It obviously shows the JW's in a positive light but it leaves much out. Much could have been said in the documentary regarding what has REALLY happened regarding the issue of blood transfusions, organ transplants, and military service, but the public (including JW's) won't learn of it from this film.

page 371 paragraph 22 of the june 15, 1967 watchtower magazine says, "in addition to all of this, a persons faith can be weakened by what he reads and takes into his mind, dwelling upon "higher criticism," relying on worldly philosophers.

it should be remembered that, when we are reading a book, the author of the book becomes ones teacher, and for this reason great care should be taken in selecting reading matter.

Maybe you should ask the JW's BETTER questions like, why over the years does much of our "new light" become "false light"? (i.e. Why Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were not resurrected in 1925 as taught by the JW's).

Why "Millions Now Living Will Never Die" DIED?

How can we tell if any future "new light" will end up being "false light" as our past has shown us?

Where does the bible teach that the JW's became God's Organization in 1919?

Why does the New World Translation add the word Jehovah to the New Testament even in places where the New Testament is not quoting from the Old Testament despite the fact that not one of the 5,000 Greek manuscripts of the New Testament contains the tetragrammaton?

Where does the bible teach that membership of a man-made religious denomination is a requirement for salvation?

This may be "new light" to you but the JW's have been attempting to expose many other religions through their literature way before you were born. The JW's have there own website where they too attempt to expose other religions as being false. Here is the link... The End of False Religion Near.

Exactly! His wrong premises were given to him by the Watchtower publications. It's the Watchtowers fault for raising false hopes in it's followers, then the Watchtower puts the blame on their followers. No wonder over 200,000 JW's left the organization after 1975!

Aside from the fact that the JW's chronology is full of errors, (i.e. 607, 1914) their Eschatology is utterly ridiculous.

Monkeyironfoot seems to take the whole “question” of the truth to be based on some word games and moon phases, which it is not.

Barbiecon, It has been proven biblically and archeologicly that Jerusalem was not destroyed in the year 607 b.c.e. That being the case, the JW's chronology is WRONG! Jesus did not select the JW's as God's orginazation in 1918 or 1919 or any other year for that matter. When did God ever say that the watchtower bible and tract society and the religion affiliated with it was his organization? If god ever said such a thing, it would have been world news I'm sure! Just because a group of men in Brooklyn decided to call it God's organization does not make it so. Also, what about the "Millions now living will NEVER die?" That was new light, right? Here's some more new light for you! They died, and no, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob were not resurrected in the year 1925 as prophesied by the JW's. That prophecy did not come true which makes the Watchtower Organization a false prophet. If the Watchtower Society was under the law covenant, there leaders would have been taken outside the city and stoned to death.

The last time I checked, the Bible did not teach that membership of a man-made religious denomination was a requirement for salvation. However, acceptance of Christ was! If one has done that, they are a member of the body of Christ plain and simple with no need for any publishers card.

You remind me of myself when I was your age. When I was 22, I too was a ministerial servant and a regular pioneer and a bookstudy conductor. also newly married. That was in the mid 80's. My concerns came when I decided to teach myself greek and study the Kingdom Interlinear. I bought greek grammar books and lessons on cassette. My intention was to prove the NWT correct as I thought this would greatly assist me in the pioneer work. Boy was I in for a big shocker. The more I studied koine greek, the more errors I found in the NWT. It was pointless to discuss this with other JWs because lets face it... how many of them study greek? My first reactions to my findings were... It made me sick. The feeling was so ugly in my stomach. Then of course came denial. I discussed my concerns with my parents who are JW's as well. They told me to forget about it and maybe there will be new light or I will feel differently and my doubts will go away. I followed their advice and threw away all those grammar books and a few anti-JW literature books I had purchased as well. This was before the internet for me in 1990.

It worked for awhile but all those doubts resurfaced in 97. I was on the internet then and was able to verify myself what the anti-JW websites were saying. I would look up there quotations of JW literature via Society's CD and my own collection of the older publications. I found out that they were not lying as seeing is believing. I saw with my own eyes what the society has and is doing. The big one for me was the 607 and 1914 issue. I am an amateur astronomer (not astrologer) and I have a computer program for astronomy where I can punch in any date and it will plot the sky's (including moon and planets). This help me verify what these ancient Babylonians clay tablets where saying regarding how the stars and moon and such appeared in the sky during the date of a specific transaction and the reign of a Babylonian king.

It became so obvious to me that in April of 97, I decided to disassociate myself in August of that same year. I chose August and not April for two reasons.

1. Because my sister (who is a JW) was getting married the following month in May and I wanted to attend her wedding first before leaving.

2. Our district assembly was in August and I thought I would give the JW's one last chance to convince me I was wrong. Maybe something at that convention would wake me up and tell me that I was just having a bad dream or something.

Of course that didn't happen. In regards to you, just remember to listen to both sides of an issue before doing anything. The truth will stand up to any test.

HAS ANYONE ELSE HEARD OF JOHN N. DARBY AND DISPENSATIONALISM?

i missed it.. it was about john nelson darby "the father of dispensationalism".

he was of irish/scot heritage.

I think most Christians today are dispensationalist in one form or another. Darby may have started it but people like Hal Lindsay, John Hagee, Jack Van Impe, and Tim Lahaye are running with it as they all believe that the anti-christ is already alive today and living in Europe. He is said to have a peace treaty with Israel for seven years but in the middle of the seven years, he will break the treaty and turn against Israel. At the end of the seven years, Armageddon will occur. The Church will have been raptured right before the seven year tribulation begins (according to the most popular view). They all believe that the last days began and the gentile times ended in 1948 when Israel became a state and were given their land back. They say that the generation that saw the events of 1948 is the one that Jesus spoke of that will see his return. So logically, they believe we are living in the last days.

Knocking My Impresssions

i just watched the knocking dvd and it is a very good documentary about jw's.

two families are followed by the producer.

one is 23 year old seth that is dying from liver failure and requires a transplant.

I just watched the "Knocking" dvd yesterday. It does not mention the fact that organ transplants were not allowed until 1980. Infact, the father (who is a JW) donates part of his liver so his son (who is also a JW) can receive the organ transplant. I'm glad they showed this because for years, JW's have argued with me saying that organ transplants are not allowed in the organization. Last year, I had a conversation with a JW elder who partakes at the memorial. He kept insisting that organ transplants were not allowed for JW's. I told him the issue of the watchtower that stated in was a conscience matter. He just laughed at me. I was thinking to myself, "and this guys an elder?" Here is the quote for any JW's that are in denial...

*** w80 3/15 p. 31 Questions From Readers *** While the Bible specifically forbids consuming blood, there is no Biblical command pointedly forbidding the taking in of other human tissue. For this reason, each individual faced with making a decision on this matter should carefully and prayerfully weigh matters and then decide conscientiously what he or she could or could not do before God. It is a matter for personal decision. (Gal. 6:5) The congregation judicial committee would not take disciplinary action if someone accepted an organ transplant.
