What was your first "Real" job...?
by Casper inone where you were actually given a paycheck, & where did you end up after that , if you're in the mood to tell ?
there are a lot of intelligent people here with, i assume, some very interesting occupations.... but hey, we all had to start somewhere........ for myself, my first real job was at a local clothing store, imagine my surprise when at the age of 18 i realized just how much items were marked up...!!!
i priced the clothes at 3 times the cost to the store.

fresh baked bread
by Nathan Natas ininspired by greendawn's cheese thread, i thought i would ask if anyone enjoyed baking the occasional loaf of bread.. i recently stumbled over a blog - farmgirl fare .
employing my ninja training soas to avoid being recognized as not a farmgirl, i read a paean to one of the easiest of all breads - baking soda beer bread.. it is simple: 3 cups of flour, one cup of your favorite grated cheese, one tablespoon of sugar, one tablespoon of baking powder, and one teaspoon of salt, mixed quickly with 12 oz of beer and plopped into a standard one pound (4" x 9") loaf pan, cooked for about 50 minutes at 375 degrees f.. (all measurements are in "american.").

I like to bake simple breads, nothing beats the smell...
I am not organized enough to make a sourdough starter, but a biga, or sponge can be made in a day, and makes the loafs sooooo much better.
good stuff.

Do you like yourslef?
by R.Crusoe ini find this question another i hate to think of!!.
i view myself through others which is a reality of zilch so it is bad karma for me to consider it!.
maybe its circumstantial of many life events but i'll bet exjws feel the power of the above dynamic as a negative force for humanitarian ectics and personal self worth!

I have a like/hate relationship with me.
I am liking myself better lately. Trying to let me be me is hard sometimes. Accepting it another.
Today I realized that I laugh at somewhat sick humor....I'm still thinking about that. Do I like it, or do I hate it? I have issues to deal with every day. It is just my path I suppose.

McDonald's 1974. The menu was much simpler then. MUCH SIMPLER. I think I made $1.75 an hour. I must be older than Flipper.

Thank god for cheese
by greendawn inone amazing thing is that out of just three kinds of milk the milk of cow, ewe and goat hundreds if not over a thousand different kinds of cheese are made around the world.
yellow or white, hard or soft, mouldy or not mouldy, strong tasting or bland.
cheddar, gruyere, gouda, maasdamer, parmesan, feta, roquefort, stilton, brie and scores more.

I love it!!! a cheese thread.
In the US, we produce cheeses not found in NATURE!
Yes, and I love these too. Cheese wiz on a trisket with a jalapeno slice....good stuff.
My budget is more about various sharp chedders, tilllamook...etc. But I enjoy harvarti with wine.

Why do I cringe? Why am I still so bitter?
by oompa inmade my own personal statement by skipping the memorial, and then went to the next regular ol sunday meeting with my wife.
i tried hard not to pay attention, but still went nuts when the wt said things clearly not in the bible (which i don't even believe anymore!).
so why does this still bother me?

The last meeting I sat through was over a year ago. At that point the camel's back had been broken a dozen times. I barely made it out of the hall without doing the monkey scream dance while pulling my hair out running for my life from Jason, (isn't that the chainsaw guy?). Anyway, my emotions were memorible. The meeting wasn't.
I have been out of it for about 10 months now. The only time I truely get angry is when one of my family members gets hurt. Which happens all too often.
I'm glad you have this site. I admire your decission to stick with your family. I stayed too long without a place like this to help me process the craziness of it all. I ran out of ability. I hope you don't.

YOUR DAILY JOURNAL
by compound complex indear friends,.
much of what we do on a daily basis is routine and of no particular, earth-shaking importance.
however, after reviewing letters of family going back to wwii, it is fascinating to read what dad was doing on board the aircraft carrier in the pacific on any old day, what mom was cooking on her ever-steaming range, how i was dealing with the roller coaster of emotion at bethel [mom saved all my letters], how nana wrote that she would not study with the witnesses [per my request] but 'here are some mittens i knitted for you when you canvass new york with your magazines.

summer:
On the other hand, as sad as those stories are, they often serve as wake-up calls for us. And make us appreciate all those small blessings that we so easily take for granted.
Thank you for the reminder.
Today is cold and windy. I have been spoiled by perfect spring weather. I do love rain, and we need it. No rain here for 40 days.
I am going to put my problems on the shelf, and clean the house and spend some time on JWD. Just enjoy what there is to enjoy today.

April Awake....signs occur "all one time period"...what is it???
by oompa injust read in the april 2008 awake on page 5 under "what is the sign" : "the events that jesus mentioned--wars, earthquakes pestilences, food shortages---would not be new in themselves.
they have been happening since early in human history.
the difference would be that they would all occur in one time period.

Websters says:
b : a group of individuals born and living contemporaneously
and almost every other definition uses the words limit and limited as far as the time span
I wonder if they will rewrite the Dictionary, New World Dictionary, it would be a good use of their time while they wait for the end. Of course, "generation" will have to have at least 20 definitions. But leaving all those other words out (like cult), they should have plenty of room.
