"And what happened next was simply unbelievable!"
by Terry ini always sit in the same spot, just outside starbucks in a vestibule area with a table in the air-conditioned space.
i say "always," but not today.. somebody with two laptops and a table filled with business ledgers was in "my" favorite spot!.
so, i took a tiny wooden table inside the coffee shop on a long padded bench next to 3 other identical tables.. as the clickbait banner ads like to say: "and what happened next was simply unbelievable!".

So I did my investigation with people I know and happened to know more from the inside and indeed, that Elder did get the inheritance for his (and his wife's) personal benefit, not the congregations, and everyone is appalled by this.
I wonder if they all would be soo appalled if she had transferred her stuff to the org. But than again, I don't know if the WT would be so stupid as to try to get a will change when the patient is dying and all drugged up as this woman was.
So today is the beginning of a living hell for that greedy elder as he will now face both the secular courts and a Judicial Committee.

There is another french article on the matter: http://www.lapresse.ca/le-droit/actualites/palais-de-justice/201508/07/01-4891213-guerre-dheritage-entre-les-jehovah-et-une-gatinoise.php
However, there is something that is unclear. The woman sue the JWs while it was one of the Elders who had the will done so that his wife would be the sole beneficiary... unclear of what happened.
My guess is that this Elder and his wife could potentially be the Evil ones in this story.Interesting...

Not the first time we hear that kind of story don't we.

Is the two-witness rule really unreasonable?
by stillin ini'm picturing a situation in which a savvy 12 year old doesn't like the house rules that mom's new husband has put into place.
or something along that line.
i can certainly agree that protection of children is paramount, but who protects the real victim in those cases?

I have known a kid who has been coerced by her mother to report abuse by her father. Though the father was not fellowshiped, he did loose his privileges on the grounds that he could not preside over his own family. In the meantime, an anonymous call was made to child services and they asked that the father move out of his own house until they figure it out. In time, Child services found that there were holes in the kid's story and let the father move back in.
Later, once an adult, the kid finally admitted that she had been coerced and that she made up the stories.
The reality is that false testimonies do happen. Still, the two witness rule is not flexible enough. For the very least, abuse claims should be reported to the police. Then, under agreement from the victim, the law and the elders should work hand in hand and handle cases properly. The two witness rule could still be applied for disfellowshiping, however, unless the perpetrator is cleared by the police, he should loose all his privileges and never allowed to be alone with kids. -

Can a video involving a christien having sex be viewed and used by elders?
by StephaneLaliberte inlets say someone has a sexual encounter and a third party video taps it.
in canada, it would be illegal for the one that taped the video to show it to the elders as this would be "invasion of privacy".
what i am wondering however is if any legal action can be done against the elders and the wt if they view this video and take it into account in a judicial comity.

OrphanCow, the "I know for a fact" is based on the fact that I police report could be filed for this.
Both party did not agree to be taped.
No minors were involved.

OrphanCrow: The person who filmed was not involved in the sexual activity. Hence, I know for a fact that he cannot show this video to anyone as legal recourse can be done against him. What I am wondering though is if legal action can be done against the Elders and the WT if they use it as a reason to disfellowship the person who was videotaped.
As 3rdgen said, some elders, presented with this opportunity, will flatly refused for fear of legal reprisal.

Does anyone have experience in such matter?

If you were told today you would die next week, would you be happy and fine with that?
by EndofMysteries ini don't know how so many who seem to be certain this life is it after being jw's seem to happily accept it and be fine with it.
i am living and trying to live as if this is it.
i want there to be a future life/afterlife, something, but i see how fast life comes and goes and even if i'm living it to the fullest, there is no peace for me with the thought this may be it.

I also take the time to enjoy the the present moment and appreciate what I have while I have it keeping in mind that everything we have, we are bound to loose it. But we can keep the memory forever.
For instance, if one year, I can afford a super nice car and loose it the next, than, I will say: "It was fun to have that car while I had it, I really enjoyed it", instead of "the car that I have now sucks, oh pity me!" I will actually be grateful that I once had the privilege of having a nice car, not linger on the fact that I don't have one now.
