I don't recall other JWs even mentioning it, but at that time I was so young. I remember though my mother telling my sister and I about it, and proceeding to tell us that we couldn't watch the Smurfs anymore. I had to be around 5 or 6 at the time. Had me terrified of all my sister's dolls!

Smurf Rumors - 2 Questions
by A question inas the board no doubt knows, there was some sort of rumor in the early 1980s going around amongst the witnesses that a smurf doll came to life in the kingdom hall, or that smurfs were demonic.. 2 questions:.
1. do any not remember any such rumors though they were witnesses at the time?.
2. of those who do, did all the witnesses believe them, or otherwise, what proportion rejected the rumor as nonsense?.

WTBTS Elder & Ministerial Servant Problems
by JW GoneBad ini attended a recent ministerial servant k m school on the east coast and the main school instructor mentioned among other things (part entitled: 'objective of the km school course') that the total number of ministerial servants is seriously less than it should be.
in times past the ratio of m ss to elders was much more than it is today.. in the u.s. apparently the total number of elders is 88,500+ as opposed to m ss 65,000. the numbers show & numbers don't lie: the society is running out of spiritual men.
the instructor stated that this is a new downward trend that has (in so many words) the society worried.. the next speaker (part entitled: 'why we must be spiritual men') added that in his years as a traveling servant the pool of m ss has always been much, much larger than it is today.

The congregation I was in before leaving had 6 elders and 9 MS, with myself being the youngest MS at the time being only 22 when I called it quits. The next to youngest MS' were in their mid thirties and the rest were 45 or older. The elders on the other hand were quite up there in age, with all of them except one being in their 70s, and the youngest elder being around 50.
The future of this particular congregation is bleak, unless something miraculous has happened in the few years since i've left. None of the few JW males my age had any interest in "reaching out", and I didn't blame them, especially after they saw how I became the elders' slave after becoming an MS.

July 2007. Was a TMS/Service meeting. The meeting I had with the elders afterward sealed the deal for me to never go back again.

Have your views on gays changed over the years?
by laverite insome questions....feel free to answer any or all of these.
have your views of gay people changed over the years?
do you have or have you ever had gay friends?
-
R.F.
Even while I was a Dub I didn't have a condemning attitude towards them, so the org never really impacted my thinking on it much. I actually hate to hear gay-bashing. I have one gay friend now.

Robert Johnson....don't remember too much about him...just that he and his wife were very down to earth.
Robert DeBerry....my all time favorite C.O.
Joe Leming Jr....great speaker...but quite full of himself. I don't think he liked field service. He always stopped to group early.
Ron Emerson....nice approachable guy. Very young. I think we were his 2nd Circuit ever served. He was the last C.O. before I walked away from it all 3 years ago.

Anyone look at this board while still an IN and ACTIVE JW?
by Mad Sweeney ini vaguely remember looking at this board a few years ago, before i ever considered leaving the borg, and being appalled at the evil and hateful attitudes i saw here and scared to death of reading any further.. now i go back through years and years of posts and there is no evil or hate there at all.
it's one of the most kind and welcoming boards i've encountered since the invention of the internet.. that is how well borg indoctrination works.
it is eerily like 1984. black is white.

I looked at this site a couple of times soon after I was baptized. I thought everyone here were a bunch of evil apostates of course. I didn't lurk here again until a couple years later. I found myself checking it out regulary and withing 2 months or so I walked away from the religion.
