( Apologies for the large space at the top I don't quite know why ) I sat through the WT study that dealt with all the new “understanding”. The conductor started by by saying “well we won’t spend too much time on what we used to believe, we will consider what we believe now”. I took a look round to see how the members of the congregation were reacting to this. Nothing.... The study or lesson, whatever you want to call it, proceeded as usual. We might as well have been discussing how to make scrambled eggs. Just the usual parroting of what is written in the paragraph. The only highlight was when a brother commented that probably many will stream in to Jehovah’s organization after the start of the Great Tribulation, when it states quite clearly in the WT article para 13 Until the great tribulation begins, people still have time to change their thinking and start walking on the cramped road “leading off into life.” The same wording appeared under the picture on page 7. Obviously hinting that after the Great Tribulation starts there will be no way that people can change their thinking. The door would be closed. So this Brother caused an interesting pause while the conductor tried to digest a comment that wasn’t actually written in the paragraph. Then another Brother stuck his hand up and “ corrected” the comment. But after that it settled back in into the routine. After the study finished a group of Elders huddled together obviously discussing this point. But on the whole no one seemed to grasp the significance of what was being studied in relation to what was taught as truth before. How was your meeting, if you attended? |

This is not the way it was supposed to be
gray hair and pains in the knee
You will not grow old or suffer from age
that’s what I saw printed on the page
No need to save for your old age
or look for a job with a nice big wage
just be out on service and pioneer
make that your most challenging career
The New System will come so very soon
quicker than the next New Moon
It’s round the corner, can’t you see
Have faith in the WT society
But time has gone by and nothing has come
I get the feeling I that I’ve been done
Now I am old with no money to spend
It really is driving me round the bend
Can I hope that the end will be soon
Can I still give that idea room?
It ‘s round the corner, can’t you see
But this is not the way it was supposed to be.

Here is an interesting quote from the manual
No 63
In their enthusiasm to help the congregation, somespend so much time in the preaching work and KingdomHall building projects that they lack the energy to workhard at Bethel. On signing the application for Bethelservice, all have affirmed the statement: “I will give thatassignment of service (Bethel) priority over all other ac-tivities.”
I thought that nothing was to take precedence over the preaching work.
Sorry can't go out today, have to clean the toilets

Considered for Recommendation as Elder but Declined
by ProfCNJ inhi folks.
one of the elders was sent to our house to talk to me the possibility of being recommended as elder.
he did not know however that one of the elders who is a friend of mine had already divulged this future meeting.

I also turned down the offer.
I just said ..."I don't want to be an Elder. This is between me and Jehovah.
And BTW I don't want to pioneer either."
I haven't heard anything since then and that was three years ago.
But I am still a MS..

Feeling very sick!
by msconcerned inwell as you all may or not know i am an m.s and trying to figure all these feeling out.
but i have a dilemma, i will be going on a shepherding call with an elder to "help" a family who is discouraged with the people in the hall.
i have to admit i feel the same way they do so how can i "encourage" them when i feel the same?
-
molybdenum
First off, you don't have to go on a shepherding call if you don't want to.
If you don't feel "qualified" you can just tell the Elder that it is not
possible for you to go.
However, if you cannot do that, and you have to go, then why not try to use the time to
express how you feel too. I am sure that the ones you will be talking to will be encouraged
to hear that you have the same feelings. Encouragement comes from being understood and having
feelings accepted rather than just firing off a barrage of scriptures or WT articles to say " this is what you should be doing"
After all it is called a shepherding call.
The Elder might not like what you say but then you will
probably never be asked to go an another shepherding call ever. Don't forget that when an MS is invited on
a shepherding call it is for "training" to be an Elder. When a MS servant is considerd for an Elder the CO nedds
to know if that brother had been on shepherding calls and how they dealt with them. If you have no desire to be an Elder
then here is the chance to nip that possibilty in the bud, as well as showing to some extent how you feel about the
congregation.

1969 "fact": You will never grow old in this present system of things
by Ding inawake!
"if you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things.
because all the evidence in fulfillment of bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years... therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers.

I think of all the subjects discussed, this one gets me going the most.
I also was a teenager at the time of this "pronouncement".
Fortunately, even before this Awake, I had already made my mind
up that I was not going to join the pioneer ranks. I hated field service then and I still do.
But those words did have a profound influence on my life's decisions. I made some decisions that
I would never had made if I hadn't had some kind of trust in those words.
Now I am 61 and facing the prosoect of retirement with just a measly pension to look
forward to. Should I not just blame meyself? After all it was me that made the decisions..
But I certainly feel that the WTS should be held accountable for putting the lives of many into the
trash bin.
Seriously, I think I will have those words from the Awake put on my gravestone.

I would be really discombobulated if this is a bona fide JW site.
I cannot see the WTS doing this, ever.
Wouldn't be surprised if it is taken down soon

Last week in my KH there was a resolution put before the congregation.

I have sat through many of these but I have never seen a dissenter.
I felt like dissenting but I never put my hand up when it was asked if anyone
does not agree with the resolution.
What happens if someone does disagree?
I guess the resolution will pass but what would happen to the Brother
who dissents?
Back room job?
Nothing?
Just wondering if this has ever happened.

The Pit of Despair, or going to the DC
by dissonance_resolved inso our dc is coming up and my level of anxiety and depression is through the roof.
i've been fading and have noticed that when i don't go the meetings, i'm happy, calm and positive, but when i do go, it takes at least a week to recover.
so the prospect of three straight days has me in an absolute panic.

I try to use the DC as a chance to sow some seeds of TTATT.
First I look for a Brother who I don't know and strike up a conversation.
After all we are encouraged to do that as the gap between the sessions is
roughly an hour and a half.
After the initial greetings , where are you from, when did you come into datroof etc
I say isn't the assembly the most appropriate place to have a spiritual discussion.
They can't deny that.
I try to suss out how they feel about the noolight and so on.
Depending on the response I can usually tell if there is an opportunity to go
a bit further and test out the water so to speak.
There are usually two kind of reactions
1. Total blankness and by the book responses like " well we have to follow what the FDS
tell us don't we....blah, blah.
Time to say well nice meeting you, enjoy the rest of the assembly
OR
2. Some glimmer of ...well I was thinking that too ...kind of look.
Time to spread TTATT...
I usually use the session time to think how can I do this and what I could say
to others. I make notes to myself as it looks like I am diligently following the speaker.
In this way I find that I can endure the three days of "joy" and avoid getting angry, depressed, or
any other negative feeling that comes up.
Try it.
