well considering that 6 out of the 10 were all in Bangledesh and span 5 centuries I suppose all the WT comments this Sunday about the sign of the times will be slightly ignorant of the facts...

by M.J. inhttp://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24488385>1=43001.
the casualty figures are notoriously difficult to pin down, but here is the list:.
bhola cyclone, bangladesh (east pakistan), 1970. death toll estimated at 150,000 to 550,000. hooghly river cyclone, india and bangladesh, 1737. death toll: 350,000. haiphong typhoon, vietnam, 1881. death toll: 300,000. coringa cyclone, india, 1839. death toll: 300,000. backerganj cyclone, bangladesh, 1584. death toll: 200,000. great backerganj cyclone, bangladesh, 1876. death toll: 200,000. chittagong cyclone, bangladesh, 1897. death toll: 175,000. super typhoon nina, china, 1975. death toll: 171,000. cyclone 02b, bangladesh, 1991. death toll: 140,000. great bombay cyclone, india (from the arabian sea), 1882. death toll: 100,000.. this only goes back as far as our records indicate, i might add.. when taken as a % of the region's population, the earlier figures are staggering..

District Overseer comments at CA reveal GB out of answers...
by still_in74 inso 2 weeks ago i went to my 2 day ca.. this had lots of interesting tid-bits, like the wt summary of the generation change.
the conductor said that if we were listeing to jesus speak we would have known he was speaking about us!
then he followed with "and thats probably what they understood too" - i couldnt believe he actually said probably.. anyway, at the end of sunday the do came about and went into a bit about all the things the org has done for us.

"who taught you about 1914? About the true identity of the FDS? Who taught you that god is not a trinity? Who taught you the truth about pagan Holidays and how to keep without spot from the world?
So, the Governing Body has replaced Jesus as "The Great Teacher"?you know at first I just thought this was an interesting comment. But I have read this a few times, as simple as this seems - Undercover has raised a very good point. The depth with which we could ponder this is great. How much credit is the WTS really giving themselves here? Didnt Moses fail to give credit to God when he hit the rock and supplied water to the Israelites?
If any other religious instition stood up and took credit like this what would the WTS print about that? This seemingly simple observation is actually quite intuitive.... Good point Undercover........... -

Hell, I didn't even believe a word of it, and I felt drawn to him
well i am glad I am not the only one here that has this happen.....for an instant you almost feel bad for learning the truth about "the truth" - then you realize this guy spent his entire life working for a lie. Yes he may have enjoyed it, but that is what makes it so sad too.

When I see how oldtimers suggest that the WBTS is simply a money making publishing company, I have to wonder, how??
my congregation donates $100 every month to WTS. Multiply that by say 50% of cong's worldwide - 45000 = 4.5 MILLION every month.
-Coinidentally we just doubled our monthly donation from $50 to $100. Coincidence???THEN - 2 weeks ago our Circuit donated $3000 to the WTS - there is a circuit assembly every weekend in that complex. How many circuits donate a few grand every assembly? How many circuits meet every weekend the Americas and Europe? if 45000 congs (4500 Circuits) meet twice per year for CA and donate only $1k each time (not 3k like mine just did) that is an additional $9,000,000 per year.
These 2 steady and dependable cash cows total $63,000,000 per year! And this is using 50% of congs, and 1/3 the donation that we just made as benchmarks.
THEN there are DIstrict Donations.
There is tons of money coming in here. the magazines are a means to justify major land purchases for printery expansions.

Just got a visit...AT WORK.
by tan ina dear dear sister was in the neighborhood.
the only thing that really stood out in her visit was her explanation for the recent meeting changes.
she's been told that due to "gas" prices the brothers thought it best to consolidate meetings so that more emphasis could be put into the field ministry.. she look confused as she was telling me this information.

this is absurd. The letter mentioned gas prices but in such a way that it was a side issue, as if it was an auxilary benefit to making this change but not the reason for doing so.
For JW's to absent mindedley parrot the "gas prices" reasoning for cancelling the BS is an inexcusable level of ignorance!

so 2 weeks ago I went to my 2 day CA.
This had lots of interesting tid-bits, like the WT summary of the generation change. The conductor said that if we were listeing to Jesus speak we would have known he was speaking about us! Then he followed with "and thats PROBABLY what they understood too" - I couldnt believe he actually said probably.
anyway, at the end of Sunday the DO came about and went into a bit about all the things the org has done for us. It was as interesting as it was telling. It was directed towards all those that have "lost their sense of urgency" and dont take "direction" as seriously.
He said: "who taught you about 1914? About the true identity of the FDS? Who taught you that god is not a trinity? Who taught you the truth about pagan Holidays and how to keep without spot from the world? etc etc. he went on like this for 3 or 4 minutes...this seemed to be an admission from the WTS that they know the R&F are "bored" with the "truth". As if the GB are saying "yes we know we've made mistakes but look at all this other stuff we've done! If it wasnt for us you wouldnt know about any of this stuff!
It seems to speak volumes when the GB has to send in the heavies to the CA to hit the members with a guilt session for doubting. Yet their is no logical debate here. They are not "correcting" wrong thinking. No, they are just saying "well what about all these powerful works we've accomplished in Gods name?" (sound familiar?)
this line of reasoning sounds like that of a man trapped in a corner, desperate for a way out, grasping at straws. this seems to correspond with recent Study Edition WT's lately too.
anyone else hear this from the DO ?

My "anionted" mum said: "Well, for people with a spritual hunger it's was not a burden..."
so is she inferring that the GB knows that the majority of JW's are not spritually hungry ?
