I never was a JW, but I have put my foot down on meetings (my girls only attend when I am away on business and that is only because Mr. Witness refuses to take them to my mom's), they will NEVER go in service, and I have asked him not to use WT literature when he discusses the bible with my 11-year-old (who is not his biologically). I do not know what will happen as my 2-year-old (his biologically) gets older, though, since he's pretty gung-ho. Good Luck!

Does this issue also state that there's no mythology in the Bible? Mr. Witness tried to argue these points with me a few weeks ago. I laughed and said "You have to be kidding".

by deaconbluez inhey guys, i've looked in the "best of" section and elsewhere, and i've found a few good ones, but i'm working on a project where i need quotes from literature where the gb/fds are said to be the "spokesman of god", "divine channel", and other things of that sort.

I'd stay away from ebay. A person I worked with wanted to get a points counter off of ebay and it ended up that she would have paid less to go to a meeting and get the stuff! What I did was go to a couple meetings, get the stuff, get an idea of how it works, then quit. You get to a point where you can ballpark the points just from looking at the label.

Just saw your last post...I am dealing with depression, too (my hubby's a JW...) and eating is definitely my comfort. My solution for that is that I build in at least one "Free" day a week where I can eat whatever I want and don't have to think about it. I love to bake, so I usually save my binge till Saturday so I can bake some goodies and go to town. The trick with that is that you have to get right back on the right road the next day.

Freedom! I feel your pain! I, too, am about 60 lbs from my goal. I have tried Hoodia and it gave me a raging headache. I tried other diet pills, too, but they didn't work. I was HUGE when I gave birth 2 years ago, and have lost a bunch. What I found that worked for me is following the Weight Watchers points, walking at least 1 mile every day (only about 30 minutes or so) and doing yoga every morning. I've also read "YOU on a Diet" and I think that when I hit a plateau with WW, I'll give their plan a try. I really recommend changing eating habits and exercising. Read "YOU on a Diet"...spend the money on the book instead of the pills.
Good luck!

Anyone grow up in a small town?
by RisingEagle ingrrrr.
bad enter key, bad.. those who grew up in small towns will laugh when they read this.
those who didn't will be in disbelief and won't understand how true it is.

I can relate to most of these! My town's a little bigger than that (we have 18 holes on the golf course), but still very similar! Gotta love small town life!!

Last night as I was cooking dinner, Mr. Witness came to me with an issue of the AWAKE!. I am supposing it was the most recent. He started reading to me from an article about .... guess what?! Sexual Child Abuse and how to keep your kids safe!! He read for awhile (as I started seething) then asked my opinion on what he'd read. I said "Oh, I have many opinions on this topic, but I don't want to argue"...
Background info: we have two daughters (2 & 11). We have discussed "stranger danger" and what's appropriate touching already with our 11-year-old.
So he wants to have a serious discussion about teaching them body part names and how to avoid predators. I said "OK, let's talk, but put the magazine away". His eyes glazed over, he stared through me, and kept reading. That's when I lost it! I said "I will not take advice on how to teach my daughters about pedophilia from an organization that sanctions it!!!" Then I proceed to tell him (again) about the recently settled cases. He still wanted to read to me from the stupid MAGAZINE!!! I said "when this is a burning topic for YOU, not something you read in a MAGAZINE, then come back and we can chat". UGH it was so frustrating...then he says that I sabotaged the conversation about "something as important as our daughters" but he wouldn't (couldn't) speak about the topic without the magazine!! AAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!
Later, I was chatting with my 11 year old about the conversation between me & Mr. Witness and said to her "you know about private body parts and inappropriate touching, right...do I really need to go over it with you again & again?" And she says "Yes, I know and if someone tries to touch me...that's when I whip out my Kung Fu moves" and proceeded to karate chop the invisible attacker. It cracked me up.
I am so sick of WTBTS articles about family and how to run it! Is it just my JW or do all JW's (no offense meant) have a serious lack of common sense?!

First of all Leo, I have to commend you on your research and thouroughness. I don't have the patience for it and I'm always blown away by your posts.
Secondly, where did you find this transcript? Is it on a website somewhere? My hubby loves to watch Congressional stuff on C-Span and laugh at people testifying in front of committees. I'd love to print the actual transcript for him to show him how "funny" one of his own can be...

Revalation..was it personal?
by Burger Time ini am sure this has been brought up in the past..
was john's revelation supposed to be simply john moving over to the afterlife?
by this i mean instead of being some grand prophecy, could it have been our own personal armageddon?

Great thought Burger! I have wondered the same thing myself.
