Has anyone here tried Hoodia?

I'm looking into trying Hoodia because I need to lose about 60lbs to get to my goal. I exercise just about every day. My daughter and I walk on the trail that is behind my apartment. She rides her trike at a pretty good clip while I walk beside her. We normally stay out for about an hour. Most of the time she pedals fast but of course she "stops"...then back to pedaling.

Most of my family is about 230+. Fortunately I haven't even come close to that but I tend to have a difficult time keeping the weight off. Just last year I was only 10 lbs from being to my ideal weight. I'm getting frustrated because I feel like I'm starving myself. For example, even when my daughters birthday came, I only ate 1/2 a cupcake (threw the rest away) and I felt guilty for it.

So, I'm becoming "desperate" again and I want to get to my total ideal weight...what do you guys think about Hoodia?

To me it just sounds like another "Diet of the month club" gimmic. Have you ever been to a nutritionist. Dieting shouldn't be about starving yourself but eating right...

zeroday is right. when i was on my diet,. i was eating constantly, but, i was eating the right stuff. if you don't eat, your body reacts by trying to hold on to everything. try eating right. eat 6 small meals throughout the day. don't eat until your full, eat until your satisfied. if you start feeling hungry, eat again, SMALL AMOUNTS!!! between that and walking i lost 150 lbs. i am not kidding. i need to lose about 25 right now, i should get on a diet to.

What worked for me a yr ago was cinnamon. Half a teaspoon every day or two. It works two way: it speeds up the metabolism, and it balances the blood sugar level. Keeping the blood sugar level more stable helps a lot, cuz it's the lows that cause sugar/fat craving and tiredness. W cinnamon, i can keep going even though i eat a lot less. Also, it mostly stopped the cravings in the evenings. As you know, the evenings are the worst time to eat. I lost about 35 pounds in a yr. This yr i stopped taking it, and have gained back 15. Might go on it again. S

Two things happen that is frustrating for me that I know is causing some of my problems.

    1. I tend to over eat when I'm depressed.

    2. When I do gain more than I would like to be at, I tend to go on a "crash" diet. Going on the crash diet causes my body to "shut" down because it thinks it's actually starving..

That's where the cycle takes full course, becoming over weight causes me to get even more depressed which then starts the whole process all over again.

Do you guys know the commercial....I think it's with Quizno's where a guy comes into work with an IV water solution bag as his "lunch" because he's given up on eating. I know the commercial is more because he's given up on taste but every time I see that commercial I think to myself that would be nice if I could just do that for a while.....lol

Freedom! I feel your pain! I, too, am about 60 lbs from my goal. I have tried Hoodia and it gave me a raging headache. I tried other diet pills, too, but they didn't work. I was HUGE when I gave birth 2 years ago, and have lost a bunch. What I found that worked for me is following the Weight Watchers points, walking at least 1 mile every day (only about 30 minutes or so) and doing yoga every morning. I've also read "YOU on a Diet" and I think that when I hit a plateau with WW, I'll give their plan a try. I really recommend changing eating habits and exercising. Read "YOU on a Diet"...spend the money on the book instead of the pills.

    Good luck!

I think I'll try that....I like green tea and I can add the cinnamon to that. I can even take it in the evening.

I think I'll also try a timer to remind me to eat because I'm in my cycle of "forgetting" to eat breakfast and lunches lately then I chow down in the evenings.

You're right, evenings are my worst times. I know you're not suppose to eat after 6pm and lately I've been eating around 9 or 10pm...ugh!

Just saw your last post...I am dealing with depression, too (my hubby's a JW...) and eating is definitely my comfort. My solution for that is that I build in at least one "Free" day a week where I can eat whatever I want and don't have to think about it. I love to bake, so I usually save my binge till Saturday so I can bake some goodies and go to town. The trick with that is that you have to get right back on the right road the next day.

Don't go crazy with the cinnamon it can be beneficial but can also be toxic at high levels...

I agree with bigdreaux about eating smaller meals throughout the day. I eat about 5-6 small meals a day with each of them having a mix of protien/carbs/fat. Helps me control the urges to binge.

How about the quality of your exercise? Is your heart rate high enough to stimulate fat burning? I've been using the standard 220 minus your age to get my max heart rate and stay within 80-85 % of that range.

Also, do you do any resistance or weight training? Resistance training coupled with aerobics will actually enhance fat burning and help you have a higher metabolic rate throughout the day than with aerobics alone. Resistance training can be something simple as body weight squats, pushups, arm curls...etc. Doesn't need to be a full blown bodybuilding program.

Good luck! I need to lose 100 lbs and I know firsthand this has helped me in the past.
