why do people discriminate against people that have different color skin?
i understand it is a learned response, but my "elder" father is very racist... and this is how i was raised.. i don't get it.
Why are people racist?
The same reasons some American religions cherish their groups perception of 'Unity'.
Anyone who does not appear to conform in look, spoken word and act, is a threat to the groups efficiency management and ultimately the contamination of the groups perceived stability.
Why do you think the religious organizations centered in Brooklyn, New York put so much emphesis on conformity; so management can quickly identify the unacceptable.

Speaking of priorities, ever noticed that the only non-gender specific, Biblical teaching task female Jehovahs Witnesses have complete autonomy, or at least given a level playing field as the leaders (males) of the congregation, is donating personal cash for the Watchtower and Awake! then dispersing publications in Laundromats and Hospital waiting rooms, etc. as often as possible for the Societies Board of Directors.

Fark, youre beginning to sound like ALF.
Ive had a soft spot for dogs ever since I was introduced to the WTBTS childrens flagship book Paradise Lost piece of crap that depicted a child and her puppy being swallowed up by an earthquakes crevasse.
A very astute move on the part of the WTBTS board of directors to sear that image into my brain, its generated a source of untold wealth for them during my tenure as a Jehovahs Witnesses.
Notice I didnt write, one of Jehovahs Witnesses as that assumes that there actually is a WTBTS' version of a Jehovah.

Over the last hundred years, every difficulty either of a personal or bureaucratic nature that has occurred within the Society has, given enough time, been successfully solved, at least as far as the Corporation is concerned, once the problem has left and/or been forgotten.

For clarification, I think the '...shady, grinning, self-righteous sneak' who sent the email to Simon is referring to the book store advertisements and M/C-Visa donation flags located in the upper right hand corner and not the tax exempt books, videos, CDs, magazines and donation requests copiously produced for cash over decades by virtually free WTBTS labor, which funds the acquisition of expansive real estate and financial holdings, rivaling the best American businesses utilizing generous government religious concessions keeps for their own.
Not that I have any personal disagreement with people and institutions who try to make a 'buck' while supporting the surrounding community! Its the under-the-rug swept hurting or destroying of peoples lives and relationships, interpretively deemed Biblically necessary, during an Organization or Societies accumulation of wealth and visual status.
well, i damn near put my foot in it this evening.
a friend of mine who is well aware of my continuing friendship with a jw (now allegedly ex-jw) told me i should meet an ex-jw that he knows.
i felt pretty excited about meeting an ex-jw face to face as i've longed for a chance to speak honestly with someone who knows the organization well and my friend isn't ready to really discuss the issues yet.
I suspect its difficult, more often than not, having an objective discussion with someone who's wearing a straight-jacket.

For example, the above bolded statement is hardly truthful and if I were still a Jehovah's Witness knocking on your door and you answered this way, I would think you had gone bonkers.

As it appears that the articles are factual, I suspect the WTBTS, as a business decision, had no choice but to disfellowship Bill and the others and bet on riding out any negative press for the long run.
Otherwise, the corporation may have to face the possible weakening of central control over the substantial printing and real estate empire if the rank and file Jehovahs Witnesses felt empowered by their learned ability to exert external influence upon corporate policy.
Their decision appears to be purely a business one and of no cosmic significance whatsoever, other than the terror of helplessness the abused child or adult must feel today as they realize that they really have no one to turn to at their Kingdom Hall for immediate assistance, administered appropriately and compassionately.

i really love this web site and yes i'm a jw still, have been for 8 years now, i'm 35 and am married to a jw and have two boys one is 1-1/2 and the other 5. for about 2 to 3 years now i'm starting to see that its not really the truth.
the brothers, sisters and elders dont really care about anyone, the watchtower is ruining my life, i have been depressed for awhile now and i'm on anti depressants as i started feeling suicidal as i'll never be good enough as i hate meetings, i hate going door to door, and it doesn't make any sense that jehovah will destroy good people just because they don't follow its doctrins.
its like saving to your son if you don't do what i tell you i will kill you.
