It's funny that if a JW were to read the context of those verses, he or she would see that it's talking about when the Jews return to Jerusalem from captivity in Babylon. There is no indication that it's talking about a "dual-fulfillment" that has anything to do with today, except of course from the way the Watchtower arbitrarily relates scriptures to one another.

I can think of several "critical times" that are arguably worse than today. How about the final fall of the Roman Empire in the 6th century (Justinian, the last Roman Emperor, dies) followed by two centuries of devastating plague that wiped out (ready for this?) HALF THE POPULATION OF EUROPE...OVER 100 MILLION PEOPLE! The Tsunami in 2005? The 2008 China earthquake? Hurricane Katrina? CHILD'S PLAY compared to the black plague!
Economically, how about the depression, something that makes this recession look like a small blip in the radar. While there may be a financial crisis with people struggling, it's nothing compared with how people lived in the early 1930's. JWs are panicking and saying "the end is nigh!" with 8% unemployment rates, try the 25% depression levels.
JWs will always focus on the negative no matter how relatively good things are. The fact is, there is hardly anything about the times today that make it stand out as worse than any other time. The only reason it seems worse is because it just happens to be the time in which the people writing this live. They have experienced 70-80 of the thousands of years mankind has walked the planet. As bad as things seem to be, I would much rather live today than live in the middle ages, or pretty much any time before a few hundred years ago. -

What is your strangest "supernatural" JW story?
by donny ini had just became a witness and a guy i worked with, who was also a jw, told me a story that actually made me laugh and i think it upset him a bit.
the storys were almost always in the third person.
it went as follows.. this brothers wife and him were sitting at the kingdom hall on the end seats of the row next to the back of the room.

Elder goes to the barber shop. He's waiting with a man for his barber to get done, and strikes up a conversation. It's pleasant enough, until the elder mentions he's a JW, then the man gets really hostile, and says "your God killed our children in the flood, so we're going to get YOUR children!" The elder, realizing this man was channeling a demon, ran out of the shop.

llbh, I was referring to the recent decision by Lord Chief Justice Lord Philips that "Those entering into a contractual agreement can agree that the agreement shall be governed by a law other than English law." The problem is is that this ruling opens the door wide open for the most barbaric Islamic practices, such as honor killings, forced female circumcision, as well as forced marriages. The Chief Justice basically is saying that English law does not apply there, at least it could easily be construed to mean that.

Parents complained after the boys, Year 7 pupils at Alsager High School in Cheshire, were given detention for being "disrespectful" to the prophet, the Congleton Chronicle reported.
Parent Sharon Luinen told the paper: "This isn't right, it's taking things too far.
"I understand that they have to learn about other religions, I can live with that, but it is taking it a step too far to be punished because they wouldn't join in Muslim prayer. Making them pray to Allah, who isn't who they worship, is wrong and what got me is that they were told they were being disrespectful."
The school is believed to have received complaints from five sets of parents since the alleged incident on Tuesday.
Another parent, Karen Williams, said: "I am absolutely furious my daughter was made to take part in it and I don't find it acceptable. I haven't got a problem with them teaching my child other religions and a small amount of information doesn't do any harm.
"But not only did they have to pray, the teacher had gone into the class and made them watch a short film and then said 'We are now going out to pray to Allah'. And then two boys got detention and all the other children missed their refreshments break because of the teacher."
She added: "My child has been forced to pray to Allah in a school lesson."
The incident is believed to have taken place during a practical demonstration of how Allah is worshipped.
Cheshire County Council confirmed that parents had complained about the lesson, and said the circumstances of the incident were to be "thoroughly" looked into.This is right on the heels of a decision made by the highest British court that Sharia law is legal for resolving disputes between muslims in britain. My commentary is here. It befuddles me how Islam can gain such a strong foothold in Europe, starts making demands, and is supplanting civilized law with bronze-age barbarism, and the governments are just caving in without a fight. Pretty soon it will be illegal for women to be educated with men, or even speak with men they are not married to for fear it will offend Muslims. Islam is the single greatest threat to world peace and prosperity, and it's about time somebody acknowledged the elephant in the room.
