I think the original idea came from N H Knorr, who wanted to create a NEW WORLD SOCIETY, which would be the nucleus of those who would survive Armageddon into the "righteous new world."

When does it become a cult?
by SpiceItUp inmatty and i have gotten several books lately.
right now we are both reading "30 years a watchtower slave" and "awakening of a jehovahs witness".
both we highly recommend.. anyway in the midst of it all he asked me: when did it turn into a cult?.

Actually it was the Judge who said "Religion is a snare and a racket" yet JWs have turned into a religion...

How many have left the WTS and joined another church/group?
by BLISSISIGNORANCE inat this point in my life i don't think i could trust any religious group.
i don't even feel the need to be a part of anything like that right now, and maybe never will.. but i know of some who have joined other churches/groups since leaving the borg.. why do some join another religion and why won't some ever get involved again?.
what makes us so different?.

I've often thought what I would do, after I complete my fade...I even thought of being a hermit, and just do a one on one communication with God. But I don't know. I can't see going to any particular church on a regular visit...maybe I'd visit a few....on a sort of rotation basis, just to see how others worship, but not get caught up in it because I think a lot of worship is just waaayyy to emotional.

COCKATIELS (other birdies)
by RAYZORBLADE inok folks, many of you on here have the usual: dogs and cats.. i know country girl, she's got an entire a to z array of critters, with henley the rooster being my favourite, even though the stew pot is lookin' good for him, but...well...compassion rules in his favour, and a broom.. cockatiels.. who has one, or two or birds as pets?.
i'm curious.. now that i've got my webcam working, i'm going to take a picture of my beloved nim, the footless rescued cockatiel.
she's 2 years old, and she's quite a character.. i also have a budgie (budgeriar/parakeet) named baby.

I have two lovebirds which have frusted me to no end. They are noisy, knock their food dishes to the floor of the cage and give me a headache. If there is anyone who has lovebirds, what am I doing wrong? Am I not giving them the food they need or want?
I also have two cats who are siblings but are so different in looks and personality it's amazing. They are not loving toward each other as I have seen other families of cats behave. But I love them both and they love me!

The Watchtower Says It's Creature Worship To Excessively Applaud a Speaker
by minimus inhow many rotten governing body members gave horrendous talks and got a standing ovation?
how many of them just walked on stage to an automatic round of applause?
...notice the words from the 1951 watchtower on page 392----"a mild yet subtle form of idolatry that must be guarded against is the practice some make of applauding excessively when their favorite speaker or some prominent individual among the lord's people addresses an assembly.the mere stepping og this individual upon the platform sometimes brings a round of applause.

I don't applaud after the prayer at DCs; I don't say "amen" out loud after any prayer--sometimes I say a silent "amen." And I don't applaud very much any even when experiences are given. I also hate that when there is a drama, the audience applauds after every fade-out of a scene.

There is no honorable way to leave the WTBS. Why try to find honor in leaving, when the wt itself is not honorable?
Good point obiwan.

Still:
Thanks guys for your replies so far -- as you may have guessed - I am secretly preparing myself for what to expect and how I will feel -- whether to do it on my terms in a blaze of glory -- or just to carry on the slow fade
Still do you think you would get found out or would you turn yourself in? If you opt for the latter, why would you do that to yourself? Really, isn't it a matter between you and Jehovah? Since I don't have any really good close friends in the KH, and my mom has now died, and it would grieve her to death if I was df'd. it wouldn't bother me, family-wise. My kids are not baptized, I am an only child, and my hubby's sister and her hubby became inactive several years ago. They feel like JWs don't care about anyone. It would hurt and shock a lot of my mom's friends, and shock those who know me in my city, who are witnesses. Plus, after one is df'd. isn't a copy of your "case" sent to the society? I wouldn't want them to have a record of me on their file. That's why I am going to try and do the slow fade if at all possible.

Maybesbabies : when my boy is fantasizing about other women so much that he forgets that he has me to take to bed anytime he wants!!! I always tell him what a handsome, smart man he is, and all I get is "thanks". I can't remember the last time he returned the compliment, but he sure is quick to point out any good looking woman he sees. I will never understand men!!!!!
French>>
Forget about not looking other men and moreover if he feels like looking other woman a bit too much when you are with him and a + forget about giving you some compliments (in fact it's natural - Just do the same if it pleased you and believe me you will have your compliments right back and more than expected from him and the others !!!) the only way to balance the situation otherwise they don't understand and you will be the only one who have to understand ...
I gotta agree with Maybes. When I was engaged and first married, my hubby did the same thing. (Look at good looking women while I was in the car with him). He never considered how I felt. It really irritated me.
French, if it's natural for men to do that...I wish they'd keep their opinion to themselves if they have a girl with them. Thee was never a balance as far as I am concerned....
