How many rotten Governing Body members gave horrendous talks and got a standing ovation? How many of them just walked on stage to an automatic round of applause? ...Notice the words from the 1951 Watchtower on page 392----"A mild yet subtle form of idolatry that must be guarded against is the practice some make of applauding excessively when their favorite speaker or some prominent individual among the Lord's people addresses an assembly. The mere stepping og this individual upon the platform sometimes brings a round of applause. If this person gives a poor talk and recieves a maximum ovation, yet a little-known speaker gives an excellent talk and recieves a minimum applause, is this not a step toward creature worship? If the applause is given for what is said and not for who says it, then it is given to the Author of the message, Jehovah God; and that is the way it should be."............Any comments???
The Watchtower Says It's Creature Worship To Excessively Applaud a Speaker

Yeah, well they said my Kirby Puckett poster was idolatry, too.
That, and the fact that every last prayer is longer than "Freebird" makes me think that standing too long for a prayer is grounds for idolatry. A long prayer at the end of convention is understandable, but a five-minute before a book study?
But remember: Genuflecting to an elder isn't.

If someone wants to say a long prayer----say it in the bathroom or in the privacy of your own home!

I don't know mini, I have seen the standing ovations and at least 5 minutes of applause, they must have had new light since then saying it was ok

Fred Franz probably wrote that article but forgot about his words when he got on the platform, especially at international conventions.

The Watchtower taught that it was creature worship to tip one's hat to a woman. Satan the Devil was said to be behind this "idolatry".

Goodness, they think every little gesture of recognition is creature worship. They are so obssessed with stuff like this, and end up making mountains out of molehills.

Minimus,
Remember, this comes from the same group that says rape is/isn't/is/isn't/is/isn't fornication. Perspective dear heart perspective.

Perhaps we need to stop applauding speakers completely. Especially GB members who speak at conventions.
We can't have them thinking too highly of themselves, can we now?
