Sorry to hear about your friend, Valis. It might be a long recovery, though, if he lost skin. There will have to be skin grafts.....

Truthful to your Study conductor.
by Paradise Found inif you were still in contact with the person you studied with in comming in to the borg.. did you (a) tell him why you no longer feal the same about the borg.
(b)how did he take it.. i personally lost all respect for the man.
basically it was ovbiouse he had seriouse doubts.

Why does he care if he's in good standing? It would only be with the congregation anyway. If he is a believer in God, that's who "good standing" should be with, IMHO.

A big issue for ex-witnesses?
by JeffT inafter watching so many of the flame wars/battles going on on this board, ive reached a conclusion about what may be the biggest issue that faces ex-witnesses: learning how to deal with conflict is a new experience.
in the world of the borg, there is no conflict.
you conform to the group, or you are not part of the group.

I got your point SM! I don't think you were waffling a bit.
Another thing I have learned from being on religious discussion boards for about 7 yrs., is that you have to pick your battles.

My poor non-JW grandmother!! (long)
by starfish422 ini am so annoyed right now i could just spit.
first, some background info: my brother's mother-in-law (a jw) seems to feel as though she has some special connection to my gramma because they have both lost their husbands.
she's a good 10 - 15 years younger than gramma; and, truth be told, gramma doesn't especially like her.

That's is a good letter and the other suggestions are great too.
My mom told me years ago, when she was full of zeal for the "troof", and was trying to "witness" to her sister, who is Roman Catholic, her sister told her "Look, if you want us to still be friends, then stop talking about your religion to me." Well mom got the hint, and valued her love and friendship for her sister more than being a witness, and stopped preaching to her.

I remember this article and studying it in the KH. Even though I had no d'fd. relatives, I was encouraged by it because of the way it mentioned how to treat HUMANELY, those who are d'fd. that might need our help once in a while, in certain situations. This is still my attitude today, despite the flip-flop of the attitude 7 years later on how to treat d'fd. ones.
I have to say my congregation is good about elders exhorting df'd ones. I have seen them on many occasion, talk to them as a means of encouragement. Also a sister would drive a d'fd person to the meetings in her car after getting approval by the elders. So I would have to say, if my congregation is like this, there are others as well in this country and around the world. Not all have pharisical attitudes.
Captain, your mother-in-law needs to be brought to realize that the children did not commit any wrongdoing so her refusal to have anything to do with them is shameful.

I try to live life in the present--and mostly have. This year more than ever has this been true. But as I have gotten older, I realize more and more that LIFE happens to you. Sometimes LIFE hits you with a curve ball, and when you stop to examine how this curve ball could have happened, and realize it's not from either God or the "devil", (I'd like to believe it's the universe at work) but just plain LIFE, it makes you take pause into the workings of the universe. You see that EVERYTHING has an ebb and flow. The weather, the oceans and seas, people, etc. EVERYTHING is alive and moves on this earth. You also learn that life has no guarantees and what you might put off now or not do, even though every fiber of your being says to go ahead and take that leap, when you are very old, you may regret that you didn't listen to your first instinct.

The thing I hate the worst when I have a cold, flu or allergies is not being able to breathe. Hope you can get relief at least from that and that you will recover soon!
