by Englishman injust suppose that jw's had got it right about 1975, and that we are now in the 26th year of the 1000 year reign.. so, how are we spending our time?.
i guess that we're not watching boxing on the telly.
probably not enjoying any barbecues with the meat eating ban.

What Exactly Does DESTROY Mean?
by Francois inyou know, the jews were a warlike people.
the god they worshipped was entirely different than the loving father revealed by jesus.. hasn't it occured to anyone that when this god of love states that evil will be destroyed, that you will look for it but it will be gone, that what is meant is that the love of god has erased all traces of evil from the person practicing it?
you've known people like this; people who were at one time evil and who have rid themselves of it.

Is it Gospel?
by ISP inthe may 15 2000 watchtower page 4 indicated that scholars at the jesus seminar had concluded that 82% of all the words attributed to jesus in the gospels were not authentic but 'derived from later tradition'.. it is difficult to say for yourself but i do find it remarkable that pauls letters do not contain any references to jesus' life, history or more importantly his teachings.
the sermon the mount, lords prayer or the golden rule etc.
do not get a mention in his words to fledgling congregations.

Dark Clouds,
I read your post. You have raised some interesting questions and things to think about. One thing, though, when Jesus was talking about building his church or congregation, he was referring to himself as the rock, or rock mass. It was neither John or Peter.

crossroads, you asked me if Jesus had the same strength all day.
I'm saying he didn't have the same strength all day. Since John records that he made arrangements for someone to care for his mother after he was gone, he would have had to shout it out, right? But he was weak and dying; he wouldn't have had the strength to shout.
As far as being inspired to write, I am not denying that the gospel writers were inspired. I am suggesting that copyists may have inserted little things here and there in these writings that weren't there in the first place.

Two Questions
by Yerusalyim ini have two questions, mostly for commited christians, though i'm sure somehow, that others will reply too.. 1) does prayer change god or his mind?.
2) if not, why pray?.
i have my own opinion on the subject, but i may be adjusting my understanding of god.. have fun!.

Yeru, you said:
However, I've recently read some Jewish Materials that indicate a line of thought that God may hold off certain blessings for us until we ask Him for them. I think I need to pray about this issue some more.
I just heard a talk in my congregation where the speaker mentioned that if you want God's blessings, you must give him something to bless.

One more question NOW with my answer
by Yerusalyim ingod tested abraham by telling him to sacrafice his son issac.
since god is omniscient (knows all, knows the end from the beginning) he already knew abraham would go through with it unless god stopped him.
what was the purpose of this test?.

Paul says in Hebrews that Abraham reckoned that God would raise Issac from the dead, if God had permitted Abraham to go ahead with the sacrifice. If Abraham knew this, Issac must have as well. They weren't silent when walking up to Mt. Moriah.
The event of Abraham offering up Issac happened BEFORE a nation of Israel was formed, and a symbolic way of showing mankind what God was going to do for us, in providing his son, whose life was really sacrificed.
