When I "woke up" I started going through all the books on religion and cults that I have in my personal library. I re-read things that knocked my socks off about JW's being a cult and cults in general. Now I know that I read these things before and didn't blink. The last one to know that they are in a cult is someone in a cult.

Could an active JW read this without blinking?
by besty ini'm not a big fan of huge ^c^v (cut and paste) posts but here goes..... i found this when i googled 'jehovahs witness landmark forum' - thats another post why i was doing that... http://www.ex-cult.org/general/identifying-a-cult takes about 3 minutes to read.... my question is 'could a jw read this and not even think 'is that us?''.
identifying a cult
there has been much confusion about cults and how to 'pickem'.

the Daily-Dedicate-a-Song-to-a-Special-Someone Thread
by Crumpet inrather than hijack another thread and inspired by fullofdoubtnow and dedpoets music for the wedding thread i thought i would start a little "dedications" thread - this isn't the sort of dedication symbolised by dunking though!.
(i expect to see ggbg and ofg here forthwith for some romantic dedications).. i'd like to dedicate the following to someone special - "bodies - by drowning pool" .
they probably wont see this, but the thought that counts!.

Dedicated to us all at JWD.
TIMES LIKE THESE - Foo Fighters
I am a one way motorway
I'm the one that drives away
then follows you back home
I am a street light shining
I'm a wild light blinding bright
burning off alone
it's times like these you learn to live again
it's times like these you give and give again
it's times like these you learn to love again
it's times like these time and time again
I am a new day rising
I'm a brand new sky
to hang the stars upon tonight
I am a little divided
do I stay or run away
and leave it all behind?
it's times like these you learn to live again
it's times like these you give and give again
it's times like these you learn to love again
it's times like these time and time again -

Field Service Antics ...
by writetoknow indo you remember all the munipulation and antics witnesses use to get out of actually going to the door and talking to people about the bible?.
i only bring this up because in another thread i posted someone made the assertion that if witnesses voted as a group they would change the election.
it like saying the witnesses go to every door in the world with the good news and their the only group doing the work!.

When I first started studying in '79 I thought the ministry was serious business. It seemed to be the whole time I was in , phase one lasted about 11 years. Fast forward to phase 2 after I had been out for about 11 years. It was remarkably different. After a year back I seldom wasted my time although I did a lot of informal witnessing. I was disgusted by the lack of zeal, zig-zagging across the county and hardly ever any real door to door.

It has nothing to do with JW-ism. Why is not being a JW a point with you?
Tula- this is an ex JW board, I'm sorry you don't see the point.

First rock concert
by JK666 ini have recently talked with other members on jwd about the first time they went to a concert.
it was interesting the different choices of artists, and the age we were when we finally went to one.. my first was after i got my driver's license, so i was 16 years old.
i went to see a concert with black oak arkansas, foghat, and montrose (when sammy hagar was just a pup).

was anyone actually proud and happy to be spreading the word(ministry)
by looloo ini can only think of one person who actually seemed to have "joy in her heart "on the min when i studied , and even the dubs used to hate being put with this person, it all seems so obvious now that it has nothing to do with a love for god , but doing whats expected of you

I didn't like to be the first one to talk at the door but once someone was receptive I jumped in. I loved Bible studies and actually felt "high" after a good call. I truly believed it was the most important thing that I could do to help people. :-(

Tula - you didn't answer my question or I never saw your answer. You were never a JW, why are you so obsessed?

Things You HATED About Being a JW
by minimus inthere were a few things that i hated about being a witness.. i love music and live concerts.
quite often i'd have to play my music privately or hide an album cover for fear it might "stumble" someone.
i hated worrying whether someone was going to somehow get "stumbled.. regarding going to concerts, it seemed that certain artists only came to town on a meeting night and i'd miss the shows.. what did you hate about being a jehovah's witness?.

I just asked my daughter what her answer is and I quote, "I hated that my mom was a Debbie Gibson hating bitch that didn't let me listen to music or do anything else."
She's right, I was.
