Something strange in my Pears
by LouBelle infor 2 days now the most bizarre thing has happend.
i go to lunch and have my usual pear after my crackers - half way through the pear one of my mates said something funny but not that funny - i was in hystifical fits of laughter (like i'd smoked a fat joint) the tears were running down my face.
today, fininshed my pear and the same mate brought up yesturdays scene - and that was me, but worse off - and the thing i was laughing about really wasn't that funny - but tears rolling down - man it was the most fantastic 2 laughs i've had this year.. i think my pears have been spiked..

Neediness insecurity, and jealousy are usually masked issues of power and control.
Avi - I'm with you except on this part. I believe it's almost the opposite.
Power, control, neediness and jealousy are masked issues of insecurity. Get rid of the insecurity and all the other stuff disappears.
Hate it.
Really, really with you on this.

When all of someone's self worth is hinged on their relationship with someone else, when they "need" that person to feel whole then there is a problem.
Isn't that one of the criterian for a definition of love?: To feel "complete" when with the other person.?MINCAN
I think to love someone else you have to really love yourself first. You have to feel complete and fulfilled already. Being in a relationship is something that should be an extra bonus not the reason you exist.
A good partner should not have to complete you, you should both be "whole" to begin with. I may just be talking out of my ass because I've never been in a healthy relationship.
We all have issues and baggage that we have to live with. But if we haven't found a way to deal with it how can we expect others to be able to? I think the biggest problem is when we think we can "fix" someone or that being with them can "fix" us in some way.

I know women I consider "needy". There are "needy" men as well.

A little bit of this...a little bit of that.....
by coffee_black ina friend of mine sent me the following... gave me a laugh...and a few surprises.
in the 1400's a law was set forth in england that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb.
hence we have 'the rule of thumb' .

STRICKLY HYPOTHETICAL......
by agapa37 inthis question is a hypothetical one, posing a, what would you do type situation.
think back to the days of the bible kings for the nation of israel.
there were bad kings who took israel off track by their rule and some good kings who instituded changes that brought them back on track.

A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle - has anyone read it?
by Scully ini'm considering reading this book and was wondering whether anyone from jwd has already read it and would like to share their thoughts on it.
being ever-the-skeptic, i'm intrigued by a philosophy that appears to embrace reality and the here-and-now, but i'm wary of the new-age-y-sounding-ness of it as well.
what do "believers" think of the book?

I always think I have an open mind until I read something like that and cringe.
Let me know what you think of it. I do love knowledge just for the sake of knowledge whether I ascribe to it or not.
