How many of you were baptised at a young age?
by lepermessiah inone thing this site has made me reflect on the baptism practice in jw land.. many of us were raised in the religion, thus you were given the pressure early on to shoot for baptism as a goal.. i remember feeling bad because i waited until the ripe old age of 14 to take the plunge.. looking back, i realize that when i was 14, i didnt even know what my favorite color was, let alone have enough knowledge to make a life altering decision.
yet, growing up in that climate, i would say anyone who waited past their early teens to get baptised was viewed with great suspicion and was likely to be viewed as "bad association".
kids who took the dip at 8-9 years of age were viewed as "wise beyond their years" and the like.. how old were some of you when you were baptised, and what are your feelings on the matter?.

Need help with how to respond to my husband
by doublelife inso i went though the whole 'generation' issue with my husband and i got him to admit that the "new light" does not make since.
but he just shrugged it off and said that the society has been wrong about other things so it's no a big deal.
the governing body are imperfect.

SDA's do not fight in wars either. They do "alternative service"
Also, JW's do not consider themselves "pacifists". Peaceful, neutral, yes. But they don't like the term "pacifist", it sort of has political connotations.
I don't think Buddihists are into war either...
And many people, as individuals, refuse to go to war.
Oh, and hippies! Don't forget hippies! :)

Get your kids involved with Haiti........
by awildflower inso my 13 year old daughter and i have been watching the news all day about haiti.
because i've been talking about it since it happened she is now asking questions.
so today we talked and i made sure she saw on tv the map of where haiti is and how difficult this is going to be and is for relief efforts due to it being on a island etc..........then i saw where you could safely text a ten dollar donation.

Teaching our children that we are all responsible for each other is a valuable lesson. The more children who learn that lesson today, the better everyone's future will be. :)

How do you deal with forced time with old JW friends?
by 5thGeneration ini'm facing a bit of a dilemma and wondering how to deal with it.. my fade is as complete as i want to make it but i'm going on vacation and lifelong super jw friends are going to be where i am staying.. i'm wondering how some of you have dealt with this in the past.. do i simply and uncomfortably stay quiet about not attending, going to the meetings?.
do i just matter of fact state that "yeah, i just haven't been going for a while"?.
or do i play the sheepish, discouraged, distraught role?.

If they ask, tell them you're inactive but happy. No need to "get into it". That stops them in their tracks.
If they don't, and the conversations are "non-witnessy" and just normal fun, why bring it up?
Just be yourself. Be happy. That blows their minds. :)

Dear snakes: There is a little known, but absolutely sacred and true household rule that says, "Only one person per household is capable of changing the TP roll".
In my house, it's me. I live with bonafide geniuses that are incapable of changing a TP roll.

It warms my heart to read of your domestic lovey dubby squabbles. I'm so very happy for you!
You get up before Toni to turn on the space heater in the bathroom? Wow, you are one in a million!
I'm the hot natured one in the relationshiop so I understand being about to burst at 73 degrees. But...I think you did the right thing with conceeding to 68 overnight.
When possible, on little things like this, choose Toni over saving a few pennies. Being frugal is one thing, but it can cross over to stingy pretty quickly. Don't go there!
All the best!
