  I'm sorry you get upset, but logistical errors happen.

  Yes, and they do happen on the side of the U.S. as well. They might have screwed up, as has happened many, many times before - incompetence or malice, who knows. But that's not my what gets me upset: it's the fact that casualties on "the other side", or on no side at all, are rationalised away in any way possible, as opposed to casualties on the "own" side. The self-censorship of CNN, as one example, is simply outrageous, but I blame the recipients more than the media.

  I also get upset about wisecrack armchair commandos who talk about war from the comfortable safety of their own homes when they've never heard so much as a gunshot except on the sacred Tee-Vee (I'm not specifically referring to you!), but that's another story - I guess we all have our sensitive spots.

  Who knows War is Hell.

  Why is it that each time an American soldier gets injured, it makes dramatic headlines (plus a nice "home story" about his proud parents), but each time another soldier or a non-combatant is killed, we hear, almost in a knee-jerk reaction manner, the same old rationalisation crap like "war is hell"? (That is, if we hear anything at all!)

  It makes me fucking sick that civilian casualties are generally shrugged off as "inevitable, unintended collateral damage that nobody should make a lot of fuss about", but as soon as a combatant on "our side" (whichever that is) is only slightly injured, it's big news and the person is considered a hero and whatnot.

  War is hell? Yes, definitely. Guess what, I know, I've been to war zones twice in my life (though not as a heroic gun-toting soldier, just as a sissy Red Cross helper). But it's hell for _everybody_ involved. So we either quit whining about anybody, including those poor soldiers "defending freedom", or we start whining about each and every person that's affected by war. Specifically those persons who didn't choose to be affected.

  well folks, this is big news!.

  since this un/wt scandal blew, there have been those who strongly suspected that this association was not the whole picture.. the un's reach is worldwide in scope, it goes without saying.

  and in order for the wt to use the un for that worldwide clout, an alliance had to be formed that goes way beyond the use of the un library, it now appears.

  Well, I second Nathan's motion: ask them if you really think you're on to something interesting (I don't think so). There are hundreds, probably thousands of web sites with a hyperlink to www.watchtower.org and other religious groups.

  Well folks, this is big news!

  Huh? The "Interfaith Center of New York" puts a link to the WTS web site on their pages. Anyone can do that, even the Satanistic Swine-Sacrificing Sect of Fodeja the Great, without asking the WTS for permission.

  Is there any indication that the WTS is an affiliate of this Interfaith Center, except the fact that they put an HTML snippet pointing to watchtower.org on their site?

  JW Stats and Regression Analysis (forecast model)

  i read a post the other day (i believe by fedoja) that suggested we do a regression analysis to determine what factors are significant in jw growth are decline.

  basically is a strong economy correlated with a jw drop in numbers?

  i have statgraphics and i know how to crate forecast models so if you guys can get me the stats in excel format i can run the analysis.

  I quit smoking because for me it was an expensive habit and I wanted to start studying with the witnesses again.

  Which only goes to show, again, that bad association spoils useful habits.

  I mean you have to assume that a good percentage of users will becaome addicts and quite a few won't function properly and become non-productive citizens.

  Besides the fact that Marijuana is not physically addictive, I'd be more worried about the presumably large percentage of Americans that are hooked on prescription drugs or alcohol.

  Taking all sorts of synthetic drugs is perfectly legal even for young kids if they can be "diagnosed" with some sort of "disorder", preferably one with a three letter acronym.

  Actually, I find it more risky to legalise Hashish in one rather small country that's surrounded by countries where it isn't legal, such as the Netherlands. Still, it seems to work there.

  The fact that you haven't heard of Lyndon LaRouche is a story in itself. It is not necessarily a reflection of your ignorance as much as it indicates how absolutely brainwashed the average American is by the media.

  Er, no. It's probably an indication of your own brainwashing, as you simply assert that "cynicus" is not only average, but also an American.

  As regards LaRouche: with so many loonies available on this world, it's sort of hard to pick the most interesting ones.
