i must have missed this on my travels thru different x-dub sites, but i think i read something on here about their "new light" regarding the timing for armegeddon.
since its been over 30 years since 1975, how do they predict armegeddon now?
what do they tell new converts regarding the 1975 debacle?

I was watching something on TV the other night about the Mayan people. Didn't realize they predicted the end of the world would come on December 21, 2012. Interesting. . .early GB members???? ~grin~
my ex came back from the convention and the subject came up of familiy, marriage etc...i asked, how they believe marriage family etc will stand in "paradise"...do they believe earthly marriages will still be valid and mates will still be together, or is that annuled!!
!..also, whether families now will once again be families then..he didnt seem to be sure.. just out of interest, could anybody shed some light on the witness beliefs on this?.

If you live through Armageddon you stay married, but if you die and are resurrected you are not married, and if you go through Armageddon single you have to stay single.
JWFacts - are you SURE this is a Watchtower teaching? I was in the Borg from birth to age 39, and I never heard this one. In fact, a couple of single guys I knew joked about being in the AAA club -- "Available After Armageddon".
I don't remember ever hearing this either - that if you went thru single you had to stay single. This seems contrary to what we were taught as young teens. Teens were encouraged to pioneer and not marry - there would be plenty of time to marry in the new system - and a world full of JW's to choose from - only JW's to choose from, in fact.

This was before the resurrection belief was radically revised in the 1960s, which allowed for the resurrection of much of humanity. At the same time, marriage before Armageddon came to be permitted or looked at with less disapproval, but even for decades later the Society encouraged people to remain single if possible.

I believe, if I remember right - if you survived together (i.e., a married couple) you would still be married in the "new system". If a spouse died in the old system (now) then if that person was faithful they would be resurrected, but would have a different body. You would supposedly know that person by their personality but the couple would not be married. I never quite understood that myself. I remember asking about one person, whose husband died and she had remarried. I asked what was her husband going to think when he was resurrected. The answer was that he would be fine with it - Jehovah would make "everything ok". The resurrected spouse would be like a "family member" or friend. Never quite understood how that was going to work, but no one really questioned it - or at least not that I remember. This was what I remember being told. . .which was a long time ago. . .perhaps someone else has a better explanation that they received???? Did anyone else think this was going to be an odd situation????
i am looking for information on the beliefs of jehovah's witness i do not know much and i am afraid that most of what i am finding is biased information one way or the other.
i did find a "fact sheet" and i am wondering if all of it is true or not.
i looked at the watchtower website for answers to a few of these and so far i am finding them to be true.

True. ..why attend college when Armegeddon is just around the corner? Pioneering (full time preaching) is what young people are encouraged to do. I was in high school in the 70's - some JW kids didn't even finish high school - just dropped out because Armegeddon was coming in 75 - why get an education? Wish I had known then what I know now.

True - extracurricular activities are discouraged. . .children should be at meetings/studying/preaching or being with other JW children - not having "worldly friends"

Good. ..I'm glad to hear that other people remember it as I do. It is very sad as you say, but true nonetheless, no matter what they try to say about it now.
someone mentioned to me the other day about going door to door back when i was a jw.
"weren't you scared to do something like that, knock on a stranger's door?
actually it's been so long that i had almost forgotten.
Does anyone remember the stories that went around about people being out in service and an angel protecting them from a murder or molester? I remember one story that went around here - and was even discussed at a circuit assembly. A sister was going door to door and a man answered. She did her little verbal dissertation and the man got rid of her. Right afterwards the Avon lady came by and the guy pulled her inside and killed her. After he was arrested, he was asked why he didn't harm the JW lady that was just at his door minutes before and he replied "are you kidding, with those two huge guys that were with her"???? The "sister" was supposedly alone and the angels came down and protected her from the man. I remember this story so vividly as a teen.

It's truly amazing what they're told now. There were many people who sold off everything back then - and it damn sure wasn't due to being too materialistic. They did what they thought Jehovah wanted them to do - preach full time until the end came. They felt a sense of urgency that came directly from the society. I lived it - I remember it. The ones who sold everything were looked upon as "spiritually strong - with a special love for Jehovah". They put their faith in Jehovah - that he would provide for them. The sad thing was - that when Armegeddon didn't come, these people didn't have any way of taking care of themselves in their old age - and the society wasn' t going to step up and supplement them. It's a real eye opener what you said about what the older witnesses say now about what happened back then. It's no wonder they're told to stay off the internet - they don't want to take the chance that any of them will read what actually happened back then. It was a big major deal - I remember the assembly when it was announced - everyone was dumbfounded - during the intermissions - the place was a buzz - everyone talking about 1975 - teenagers wondering if they'd graduate high school or should just quit now - it was the most exciting thing that had happened to them! Young people were encouraged not to get married, unless they felt they just couldn't stay "clean" (without sex) and young married people were encouraged to put off having children until after Armegeddon - so they could pioneer also without the burden of raising children. I knew couples that were "waiting until the new system" to have kids - then I heard later - after 10 or 15 years, that they finally had had a child.

2034 is the strongest date the WTBTS has "hinted at" Noah like work , 120 years ; 1914 +120 years = 2034 I was thinking the same thing. . .I'll be 79. . . if I make it to that age. Interesting new theory though. . .I wondered what they had come up with since 75 failed them miserably. Amazes me how many times the "old-timers" like my parents are going to hear 'new light" and buy it.

Oh my gosh. . .I remember that little pamphlet we used on Thursday night meetings - forget what its called - you know with the latest news - saying that "many were selling their homes and going where the "need was greater" before the end and that they were complimenting them for doing so. You can't imagine the number of people who quit their good jobs, sold their homes, and did janitorial work so they could pioneer full time. My ex-in-laws were two people who did just that. They sold their home, he quit his good job with FoMoCo, and they moved and lived in a camper trailer that was like 15 feet long. They did part-time janitorial work and pioneered full time.
What was that little pamphlet called that we used at the meetings? Kingdom Ministry?? Was that it? Geez. . .my memory is not good anymore. It was in there - and I remember the night at the KH when they talked about it - I will never forget it. Makes me wonder about all the people my parents age who are still hanging in there - what do they think after all these years??? No one seems to question - they just move along doing the only thing they know.
