Anyway, I was just curious to know what the thoughts are out there regarding the Dead Sea Scrolls validating the current translations of the Bible. Since there is considerable discussion on here regarding the Bible, its origins, fallability, etc., I would be curious to hear how our various camps weigh in on this subject?

WC...I would take exception with recommending a .38 as a guaranteed knock down. Very few police agencies use that particular round any longer because it does not have the ballistics with that profile. There have been numerous accounts of a .38 being deflected by a windshield of a car! A .357 is a much more potent round, though it is hard to beat a .45 for all around knock down power.
With that being said, I would prefer to not have to test any of them in a life or death situation!

A good synopsis of the origins of the holiday...and sure to give any JW a "I told you so" attitude.
You could do a similar report on the origins of wedding rings, anniversary celebrations, the days of the week, etc., and JW's would say that even though they have pagan roots they are too far removed from those roots to matter...an interesting pick and choose kind of mentality of what is pagan and what is not!

i don't think they are the true religion, but i do think they teach a lot of stuff that is correct.
like the trinity being a false doctrine, no idle worship, including crosses, and hell isn't a forever torture.

One of the problems ex-JW's have when they leave the Borg is that they have been indoctrinated into a mindset of absolutes. The biggest issue with that mindset and seeking the "true" religion is that we live in an imperfect world populated by imperfect people. No earthly organization/religion is absolutely true or perfect...so if that is your quest, you will never find what you seek.
The more important issue for you to consider is that if you choose to worship as a Christian, you need to seperate doctrine from salvation. The more important issues are those core salvation issues revolving around belief in Jesus as the redeemer of mankind and a close personal relationship with him. I cannot go the route of atheism, but I also had issues with many of the aspects you mentioned of Christianity. I can understand how many ex-JW's have rejected religion and belief in God. It sounds like that is not your personal belief, so I encourage you to not get distracted with dogma. Find a good church in your area and give it a try...you won't burst into flames if you step inside the doors :)

I hate to be a bearer of bad news, but with the new Elder's book they have added the new offense of "brazen conduct" which is pretty much a catch all for any offense that there is no clear definition of...I am sure that refusing to meet with the JC could fall under that heading.
