First off, speaking as a retired police officer, once the handcuffs are on, the fight is over. First rule of arrest. What happened to George Floyd was unacceptable, but to turn the man into a saint and martyr is ridiculous. What has bothered me as much as the murder of this man is the absolute disregard for facts. The very people who love to trot out facts and statistics to support their agendas are completely disregarding the same for this so called epidemic of violence against people of color. Look at the facts as presented by the very liberal Washington Post. They have been tracking police killings for the past 5 years. In 2019, approximately 1000 people were killed by police. 230 black people were in that number, of which all but 10 were armed. Any loss of life is tragic, but these numbers show that there isn't a systemic culture in policing to foment violence against black people. The trend line for fatal shootings is actually showing a decrease in the number of black people shot by police. A Harvard study showed police were LESS likely to shoot a black man than other races. More black people were killed last weekend in Chicago than the entire number of unarmed black people killed by police during the entire year of 2019. This is not a defense of killing anyone, but we can't be burning our country down over a false narrative!

Comparing UK stats to US stats is not really apples to apples. Gun possession by the public in the UK is minimal, where in the US there are approximately 300-400 million guns in the hands of the citizens. Having worked as a police officer, I can tell you first hand that guns proliferate in the US, and as a result, the two leading causes of death for police officers are gunfire and traffic collisions (except for 2020, where COVID was number one). As the video shows, tasers often fail to stop people...and in the case of edged weapons, they can be more deadly than guns inside of 20 feet. As the video shows, a knife wielding subject can close the distance to the officer so quickly, they would have no time to draw a firearm in response. These officers were VERY lucky to not have been killed or injured in this contact...thankfully, this turned out well for the officers and the suspect.

Active JW's - Do you see a CONTRADICTION here?
by The Fall Guy inthe bible says this - acts 17:11 “...for they [the beroeans] accepted the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.”.
km 9/07 p. 3 question box - does “the faithful and discreet slave” endorse independent groups of witnesses who meet together to engage in scriptural research...?.
and yet, in various parts of the world, a few associates of our organization have formed groups to do independent research on bible-related subjects... some have pursued an independent group study...so as to analyze the accuracy* of the new world translation... for those who wish to do extra bible study and research, we recommend that they explore insight on the scriptures, “all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial,” and our other publications...” .

In Your Opinion Do Today's Elders Recognize That The Religion Is BS?

i recognize that some people, elders included are brain-dead.

I always felt it was my wife's goal rather than mine, and I never really felt the calling. What was the line from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding"?..."the man is the head, but the woman is the neck...and the neck can turn the head any way it wants!!"

What did you have for Christmas dinner?
by GrreatTeacher inmy inlaws are polish, though my husband is a 3rd generation american, but the food traditions have stuck around.. we have christmas eve dinner starting with red beet soup with sour cream, pierogies filled with mashed potatoes or saurkraut, ham, polish sausage sliced and cooked with saurkraut, turkey (that part is american), krischickies (likely spelled wrong) which are crispy pastries dipped in powdered sugar, and apple pie (also american.).
there are goodnatured threats toward bad children who may need to get their dupa busted (butt spanked) and therefore santa will bring figismachen.
i also love golabkis (ground beef and rice wrapped in cabbage leaves), but these were not served this time.

Did Jesus really die on a cross?
by macys inbeing raised a catholic we had lots of crosses around the house.
when my family converted to this cult they were all removed and destroyed in case they had demons in them lol but at this juncture in my life i do not even know if jesus as the way he is portrayed in the bible was real.
yes a man named jesus did live and die 2000 years ago and probably on a cross but he was definitely not the son of god.

The bottom line for believers should be, not how he died (cross or stake), but why he died...end of story. Anything else is a red herring. -

Worst experience I can recall was going door to door one weekend, and when I rang the bell, a girl from school who I was really enamored with answered the door. She thought I came to visit her and started chatting...my D2D partner started the presentation, and I felt like crawling under the door mat! I had always maintained a "low profile" about being a JW, and this "outed" me and ruined my chances with the hot girl at school. It is funny now, but I was absolutely mortified when it happened! -

Wow Orphan Crow...thanks for the walk down memory lane! I knew Herk Hutchins quite well, and met Ron Lapin numerous times. I believe they were well intentioned, and Ron Lapin was very committed to pursuing the development of bloodless surgery (and his own fame). I believe that a chiropractor, Ron Austin, was also very involved in the bloodless program at the Norwalk hospital. I remember that program was touted as the panacea for JW's, and they lined up to be guinea pigs for experimental procedures and treatments. Strange times indeed...
