Tell a minister why the Bible alone is not enough to reach jw
by carla inplease tell a minister why the bible alone is not enough to reach a jw.
i feel the language, doctrines, translation, etc..etc... all of it must be known as well as the bible.
please, serious answers only, thank you..

Huge development concerning Watchtower.org and "apostate" comments.
by DT inwouldn't you love to comment on the watchtower.org site so that other visitors can see what you think about their doctrinal flip flops, false prophecies and dangerous medical practices?.
it's no surprise that watchtower.org doesn't allow comments.
they know that "apostates" would point out the embarrassing details about their religion and history.

Reniaa,
I appreciate your clarification, but I am still VERY surprised that you used that scripture. Even if you are using an analogy, the suggestion is still that the betrayal and apostasy by Judas is similar to the act of leaving the WTS...I would argue that I am not "apostate" in regards to my belief in the Gospel and the Bible, but rather I don't agree with the WTS interpretation of it. I hardly feel that I "sold out for thirty pieces of silver"...unless of course, exercising critical thinking is "selling out".

Reniaa...are you likening Judas' betrayal of Jesus to an individual leaving the WT and then expressing his opinions about it, no matter how aggressive or distasteful they may seem to you?? If that is the case, it smacks of blasphemy!...you are putting the WTS on the same level as Jesus! Isn't that a bit presumptive? I have seen the trend towards the elevation of the WTS to replace Jesus as mediator, but this is the first comment I have seen from you or other apologists that would suggest they share equality with Jesus...

I am puzzled Spike...are you inferring that it is important to use a translation (maybe the only translation) that agrees with the way JW's see truth?? You said:
Actually, not just any "Bible" will do for a JW. Some translations/ versions/ paraphrases don't teach JW understanding very well
I may be a bit slow, but it sounds like you are condoning a theology of convenience without consideration of any evidence other than what you want to believe. How can you be intellectually honest and say that? If you truly believe that, you are answering the thread topic by saying that anyone other than the WTBTS and its publications could NEVER reach a JW. I recall when I was a kid, the average JW would go door to door and offer to use ANY translation of the Bible to support their beliefs...and study with people using "their" Bibles. That certainly would be impractical today given your above statement...
I I were to use that rationale regarding history, I could say that "not just any history books will do for White Supremists. Some versions don't teach White Supremist understanding of Hitler very well". That line of reasoning sounds a bit silly when you put it in that context, doesn't it?

Reniaa...why is it that every time a thread is started, you immediately hijack it with your anti-Trinity comments? I don't see what the use of the Bible in reasoning with a JW has to do with your constant diatribes against the Trinity and the Cross! If you can tell me with a straight face that a JW would examine the Scriptures without the interpretation of the FDS/GB to reach their own conclusions, I will go back to meetings and get reinstated! We both know that is impossible, so your comments are the very answer to the original question of this thread...

Does the WTS think they have immunity from Duet 18;20-22?
by jookbeard inas far as i can remember i have never seen any counter argument from the wts in refuting this scripture in any of it's publications.
they call themselves the elijah class, the jonnadab class, the greater david, the faithful &wise servant, the governing body, the faithful and discreet slave(lol) etc, and even by their own admission's they have been wrong when their light got brighter in making bible prophesies, the failed prophesies of 1874,1914,1919,1935,1975 and the recent lies and failed prophesies concerning the generation and the cut off date for anointed christians of 1935, show this.
so the passage from deut is clearly very serious if those who have spoken in gods name things that have failed to come true, the bottom line is death to that prophet , pure and simple.

Isn't the claim that they don't prophesy, but rather, glean from what the scriptures already tell us? Right....

Another couple used to be loved by their family and friends when they were in the world, but once they learned the truth - they were shunned.
Hmmmm...that seems a bit like the pot calling the kettle black! Remember...when you point a finger at someone, you have four fingers pointing back at you!!

There must be some post or pre convention tours being organized for JW's as we saw a large group (maybe 30) touring the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul...it was kind of strange to see a bunch of folks with "Keep on the Watch" name tags in a predominantly Muslim country viewing the royal jewelry of the Sultans! Maybe it was just a stop on the road to Ephesus...
