My Reservations About Calling the Garridos JWs
by undercover inthis thread contains my thoughts after having read several other threads regarding the garridos being jws.... just because it is reported that the garridos are jws doesn't mean that they are really witnesses.... they may have some link to jws such as her being rasied one, his studying while in prison or any number of possibilites where they came to know a little about jwism.. even if they were baptized along the way somewhere doesn't mean that they were active, participating members in the local congregation.. there's a lot wrong with the jw religion and it's policies have helped protect pedophiles and other sexual predators from being brought to justice but i have reservations about shouting from the rooftops that the garridos were jws, when 1) it hasn't been confirmed and 2) it really doesn't do anything to expose the wt society's culpability in covering up sexual abuse.. the garridos are truly whacked.
i'm sure that local jws are just as horrified at what's happened as the average person is.
if the garridos had any connection with a local hall, i bet that the local jws were wary of them due to his nuttiness.

Disfellowshipping reasons
by GapingMouth ini grew up as a dub, and i was taught that there weren't specific reasons why people got disfellowshipped.
i was taught they didn't announce what the wrong was as they were df'd because they were 'unrepentant'.
now i know the wts is full of **** and i see a few posts about tattoos and piercings etc being cause for df'ing.

When did a lightbulb first go off in your head that something didn't seem right???
by cognac ini was about 4 or 5 years old.
they must of been talking about prejudice in the meeting or something.
that's when i first learned about it.

My ex-wife helped me to really think about it as she mirrored the JW attitude of "nothing is good enough". I had that reinforced by the Elders telling me I don't "reach out" enough...I had no desire to be an Elder. I was always being counseled on my hours, meeting attendance, etc. I finally thought to myself that this was all about what I did rather than what I believed. After I split up with my wife and was DF'ed for 10 years, I wanted to get a "fresh statrt" and examine the faith to see if I was going to go back. Reading Freeminds website, JW Facts website and particularly C of C led me to the conclusion that I wasn't going back.

My Story
by ~Jen~ ini was raised a jw by very strict parents who, in my early teen years were physically and then later emotionally abusive all the while with my dad being and elder (and he still is).
i didn't want to be a jw then but my life was all about making my parents happy which started with me being baptized at 13. my parents constantly drilled into my head that most things were "bad" and i was "bad" i constantly did whatever i could to avoid being bad.
i had no life but then met a nice jw boy when i was 17. against my better judgement, i stayed with him and married him when i was 20. i didn't have a lot in common with him but he was really nice and was safe - he was a witness and even though i wanted to be in the world so bad i chose to be with him because he would keep me grounded, in the truth and away from where i really wanted to be because it was the right thing to do.. we were married for 7 years and have 3 sons.. for the past few years i've known that i did not want to be a jw even more and was sick of being fake.

Hi Jen...welcome!
I think you have been given some excellent advice...it is a process you have to go through. Huge life changes take time to adjust to...be patient and don't make any snap decisions, but gather as much information as you can. If you need an excellent balanced analysis of JW's, I would highly recommend reading Crisis of Conscience by Ray Franz. I would also read about cults and how they exercise control. Steve Hassan's book is an excellent resource on that. Don't get discouraged...it gets better every day!

A Question Ex-Jws and Atheist On This Site
by Blue Grass ini have a question for the regulars on this site which are mainly ex-jws and atheist.
my first question is just for the atheist.
why do you guys spend so much time discussing and researching a book you believe to be fiction?

If it is getting "really old, really fast", then maybe you shouldn't be on here reading this "poisonous venom" that seems so prevalent to you on this site....my guess is that you have been lurking for quite a while. That would definitely be frowned upon by the BOE...

just a few questions I don't want to ask directly hell
by Janey214 inhello - first may i apologise for capital letters my keyboard has gone screwy.
for the last several months i have been having meetings with two really nice women from the jw organisation.
i don't want to offend anyone by asking these questions i am simply trying to better understand how the watchtower came about without listening to too much anti stuff.

Spike,
With all due respect, your comments are nonsensical...if you want to help Janey, address her question, not go off on unconnected tangents that have nothing to do with the topic.
I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT WHETHER CT RUSSELL AND THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS OF THE WBTS WERE PROPHETS OR SCHOLARS? IF THEY WERE PROPHETS THEN WHAT HAPPENED? IF THEY WERE SCHOLARS DID THEY LOOK INTO OTHER FAITHS TO DISCOVER IF THE BIBLE TRUTHS WERE ALREADY RESTORED?
Let's stick to that...

What JW apologist do not understand.
by Anti-Christ inthe more i read the comments made by jw who still "believe" in the doctrines of the wt the more i see that they are in denial.
first off they debate on a board they are not even supposed to be on, they are going directly against the gb counsel.
when they debate they do not give the actual wt doctrine as an example they give their own personal opinion, their own interpretation a watered down version of the doctrine to make it look better, less aggressive.

AA,
Though I have no problem with your opinions and defense of the WTS (to each his own!), I am troubled by your saying that you have told elders that you participate on this board. That comment indicates that you are not being honest with us in your postings...I guarantee that if you were a baptized JW, you would be standing before a JC to explain yourself. No self-respecting Elder would let that slide as "intellectual curiosity". If you are going to "play" on the board, either pro or con JW, please be honest with yourself and us. If you state things that we know to be untrue, you lose credibility quick...I'd rather read your thoughts without your trying to validate your being on here with comments we know aren't possible. Thanks...

Janey,
Sorry that we keep getting off topic with Spike's postings, but I think it gives you some food for thought if nothing else...

Spike,
I really don't understand how you can compare euthanasia with the use of blood. Even if we go with the premise about extending or ending a normal process of life, how does that apply to a situation where you are involved in a traffic accident where you receive severe trauma?? That is hardly a normal life's course and rarely the choice of the individual involved since they are often unconscious...even if they have a blood card, that was filled out in a non-life threatening situation.
I find your explanations and reasonings troubling...it sounds to me like you are creating your own theology based on what you pick and choose from WT doctrines and then sprinkle it with your own interpretations.

I tend to believe this is legit based on the emotion that was coming through...unless they are fantastic actors, it is tough to "fake" that kind of hatred if you don't really believe that what you are doing is from God. JC's tend to be very one-sided...if you agree with everything and fall on your sword, you MIGHT be given a second chance, but if there is the slightest hint of non-repentence, you are dismissed and announced.
Reniaa, have you ever considered that not everything you see and hear on this board is a set-up? If everything is an apostate conspiracy, there is certainly no point for you to even comment or speculate on things like this.
