I never really knew what people thought about JW's when I was one other than I was convinced we were marked as crazed fanatics. When I was exposed to my wife's church, all they ever spoke about JW's w. as that they were a misguided Christian cult that needed to be shown love and shown in the Bible where they are in error. No ranting about them being from Satan, just misled. All of my friends are a bit surprised I was a JW (they thought I was too smart to fall for that). They just think it is a weird religion that wakes people up on the weekend. I have only experienced a truly nasty person who hated JW's once or twice. I agree with the previous posters...most people don't even think about JW's unless they are being annoyed by them at their door!

How "worldly" people REALLY view Jehovah's Witnesses
by HappyGuy inwhen you are a jw it is pounded into your head that the "world" hates you, wants to kill you, runs around saying all kinds of horrible things about you, and would take away all your rights, freedom of religion, etc, if it could.. when i first left the wtbts organization i told "worldly" friends and family about being a jehovah's witness.
not one of them said anything disrespectful, rude, insulting, or even unkind in any way.
i could just as well have said "i'm a baptist", or "i like comic books".. a few people who know that the wtbts is a cult were concerned over my emotional health, but that was out of a sense of friendship.. i have never met anyone who on hearing the phrase "jehovah's witness" got upset or said "those xxxxx".

Do the "top" men in the WTBTS go in field service?
by HappyGuy ini read in a letter from walter salter to j. f. rutherford that salter states that rutherford does not go in field service and salter admonishes rutherford to start going in field service so that he will "know what you are talking about".. i found this a bit surprising.
so, i want to ask anyone who knows the inner workings at the hqs.
do the top men go in field service?

I recall Ray Franz mentioning in COC that field service was not considered necessary for the majority of the GB. The rationale was that they had so many important theocratic responsibilities that it was not a good use of their time...does anyone else recall that?

Has any other GB member achieved a university degree aside from Lloyd Barry?
by DNCall ini can't think of one.
anyone .

Good point lrkr...Rutherford was an attorney so he would have to have a degree. He was a forerunner of the GB, so I guess that would count.

Question regarding Holy Spirit...
by tenyearsafter ini am still muddling my way through both sides of the trinity argument, but i would be very interested in hearing the explanation for the nontrinitarian view of the holy spirit and what it is in light of ephesians 4:29-32 where it speaks about "grieving the holy spirit".
if the holy spirit is just god's active force, as we were taught as jw's, how can we grieve it?
grieving would indicate a personality or feelings that could be "grieved".

JD - Interesting and certainly can make for a solid argument against the JW interpretation. I still don't agree with your "so what?", but that is ok. If understanding truly evolves, then the current understanding of the Trinity could be different in the future. Anyway, thanks for the thought provoking references.

I think Freddie went to college, but dropped out after 2 years. Other than the esteemed Mr. Franz, I can't think of anyone.

Many advices are needed! No prudes are allowed here, please. Thank you!
by asilentone inwell, let me tell you about my experience in dating a married woman about a year ago or so, i was dating a married woman, she did not tell me that she was married, but i found about it and i told her that i know that she is married, then she decided not to see me.
she is really hot.
well recently, i learned that my recent date is actually married, but she is also really hot, should i keep my mouth shut not telling her that i know that she is married, so i can keep the relationship with her, i would not mind because i really like her..

Been there and I bailed immediately. She was "hot" too...and her husband thought so too. The next guy she hooked up with ended up getting shot by her husband. I would venture to say that no "hottie" is worth that!! Bail and find a single one...plenty of fish in the sea dude...

PS - Thanks for the explanation...that actually makes sense when looked at in that context.
JD - I appreciate what you are saying, but I don't know that we have any conclusive proof that the 1st century believers accepted the Trinity as we know it today. I suspect that they might have thought of Jesus as God, but I don't know that they connected the Holy Spirit to a Godhead. I am no scholar, but maybe you have additional references that show that.
jeremiajs - still waiting for a reply...

Absolutely true Gary...according to the WTS, the original meaning tied to the pinata has lost its significance over time, so the use of it is now a matter of conscience for the individual to decide on. Ironic that they don't apply the same logic to birthdays, Christmas or Easter...
