Please tell us about your weather.
by compound complex inliteral or figurative .
rain, at long last, has penetrated into the interior of our land and my soul.
the burning sun of a protracted summer had effectively removed my resolve to get necessary things done.

So ARE Mormons a cult?
by Found Sheep inhad a short, cuz i cut it off, conversation about mormons today.
she claims to be one.
before i knew she was my big mouth called it a cult.

It depends on what definition of cult you are using. If your definition is a fanatic follower of an individual leader that isolates the individual from society, then no, they probably would not be considered in that definition. If you define it by Christian orthodoxy, anyone outside of the traditional, orthodox Christian belief system yet claiming to be Christian, is considered a cult.

We used Pearblossom...it lasted one year, and then we had to put the kids back in public school. Unfortunately, the school board wouldn't recognize the homeschooling for graduation credits so the kids had to repeat an entire year! What a waste of time and money...

Helping people
by so confused inwhat do you say to someone that feels preaching is the best thing to do in helping people because you can save their life in the long run?
should not waste energy on helping people when hungry, poor because a waste of time and its temporary.
trying to have something logical and persusive to have my mom see helping people now is a good thing..

I would just point to the example of Jesus. The first thing he did BEFORE preaching to people, was to care for the physical needs of his audience, ie: healing the sick and crippled, feeding the masses, raising the dead, etc. Pretty hard to argue with the example of the one they are supposedly modeling their ministry after!

A question regarding bringing reproach on GodÂ’s name
by crazycate inregarding the tragedy in gresham this last week, i have nothing but sadness for the loss of that young life, and nothing but sympathy for the family and friends that mourn her.
i do, however, see the attempts being made to make sure everyone "knows" that the alleged killer was not a "real witness.".
i was raised as a jehovah's witness and remember the conversations that surrounded any criminal action by a member of the congregation.

I hadn't seen anything about the suspected killer being a JW...do you have details you can share or a link that talks about that?
And yes, you raise a good question...I think I hated the bad press if I were lumped in to the same group.

Why aren't you an Atheist?
by Bloody Hotdogs! inlong time lurker, first time poster.. .

For me, there are more reasons to believe in a creator than to believe that a creator doesn't exist...primarily the "fine tuning" of the universe. If someone chooses to be an atheist, so be it...but I will believe in a creator until it can be proven to me a creator doesn't exist.

When You Were A JW Were You Disturbed By "Apostate" Literature or "Apostates" At Conventions?

We were convinced that these were evil people and we were repulsed by them...it was like forbidden fruit to just glance at the picketers as we came and went from a DC. We were always told that they were followers of the Evil Slave class that broke away from the Society in the early 80's, and that even looking at their signs was the first step in "falling away" from the Truth! Sheesh...
