JW funerals

i'm currently doing a major work for my final year of high school on funeral music and how religion impacts upon it.

specifically, in one part of the work i intended to focus on those religions who have guidelines about what should and should not be played at funerals.

when i was reading through surveys i handed out, one young girl who is a jehovah's witness mentioned that there are certain guidelines for the music played at funerals, but she didn't expand on what.

I had to attend one of their funerals just this past weekend. I am ALWAYS steamed at the lack of personal touch to the talks and the promotion of the religion. The time of rememberance of someone's life is NOT the time for that. Your outline is spot on. EVERY witness funeral talk is exactly the same thing except for the very beginning where they mention 4-5 points about the deceased. This funeral this last weekend was down to the tee on everything including the exact reading of Job and Corinthians at the grave site afterwards. And the whole talk they constantly say Brother So-and-So believed this or that I guess trying to make it seem personal while really saying nothing specific about the person.

I always feel like apologing to the non Witness attendees.

And to answer your question kingdom melodies were played before and after the funeral.

Not that preaching the WT gospel is something desirable because it is full of deception and heresies or apostate thinking.

Well - if you missed my original introduction thread my current ministry is composed of simply sharing versus from the Bible I find encouraging and uplifting. Pretty refreshing difference.

Talking to a friend of mine the other day. he's a 22 year old witness. he said something to me about not going out on Saturday mornings anymore and i responded i didn't know the Bible set a certain time and day i had to do my ministry. He responded - 'does everything have to be in the Bible? do you think the disciples asked jesus where something was in the Bible?' - i just looked at him and said '1) they didn't have a complete bible 2) who are you trying to compare to Jesus?'. he looked at me funny and said 'uh, no one'.

But his statement subtlely said that what the WBTS and/or the Kingdom Hall asks is on the same level as what Jesus would - and I really don't think he realized it. It just gets ingrained after a while I guess.

There was a good article in the paper today about the UN losing it's status. Imagine if that were to happen for a second, the UN close down....how in the world would they explain the wild beast? I'm sure it would be something like their explanations of the king of the north and the king of the south - anytime the 'current king' falls into a meaningless state they assign a new nation and say it's an ongoing thing. But I think that would be a tough hurdle to overcome.

If God got ticked at Moses...

last night as i was doing my customary tossing and turning till 4 in the morning i got to thinking about the account of moses and the water from the rock.

now, we may or not believe in the literal take on that anymore - but the wt surely does.

if god got that angry about one incident of a human setting himself up as the one who accomplished something done with god's power, that he would deny moses, a longtime servant, entry into the promised land.... how must he feel about the org?

They set themselves up as the one org you MUST go through to be able to gain salvation - that he has given only them the abilities to hand out the meaning of his inspired word. Somehow me thinks he might just be a bit displeased.

How Did Being Referred To As A Brother Or Sister Make You Feel?

how did being referred to as a brother or sister make you feel?the term brother always reminded me of being in some militant or holy roller religion.

during my tenure as a jehovahs witness, i brought it to the elders attention to refer to .

me by using my first or last name when addressing me.

It really bothered me when a baptized jw would be called on at the meeting and be called Brother Smith and then an unbaptized adult would be adressed by their first name.

I totally agree! I've known people who have been studying for months, in service, commenting at meetings - and the sudden switch to Mr or Mrs so-and-so when it's their time to comment. I just turn to my wife and ask her why they choose not to recognize those ones as part of the congragation - seems unkind.
