Just reviewing my years of non-appointment as an elder.

i had 'reached out' to be an elder for a decade before i finally understood the reasons why i was not, nor would i ever be one.. each visit of the co, my name was on the list of discussion.

i know this because i was told by both co's and local elders.

the vote was always close, sometimes i missed the cut due to 'low hours' on the part of my wife or daughter, othertimes due to some variation in the way the wts was looking at particular 'requirements'.

I wish I could share this thread with a friend of ours - unfortunately he's still on the inside and really hasn't accepted (correct that: chooses not to really recognize that we are totally OUT - That way he can continue talking with us) - anyway, he's 48 - raised in the truth - never been married - and has never made it past MS. He's been removed and reappointed in 4 different states. His single desire in life is to be appointed elder and he'll never get there. Although every decision he makes in his life is governed by his ministry (from what job he takes to what car he drives to where he lives), his personality grates on some - he's loud. He doesn't have a glass of the kool-aid, he's got and regularly drinks from a bucket of it. The WT is the law for him - there is no separation . . . but try as he does, he'll never get there. An it's an absolute source of frustration in his life

That is so sad.....poor man what a waste, maybe he needs some sort of pshyological help, just sad.

JWs, Jesus Christ, Death, and John 11

i was thinking about an earlier thread i had made where many of you mentioned the death of relatives.

well i've lost a very close relative a few weeks ago and it's still very rough for us of course.

however the reaction from many in the congregation, from the elders especially, hurt me deeply.

Sorry R.F about you're loved one. My brother died last year and I had a lot of support from the congregation including one of the elders. But I do know that not all congregations are the same. Look at Revelations talks about the different personalities and problems within the congregations.

Still I always have maintained that the truth is found in Christ and his love, and those that choose to follow his example that is the truth, so without that foundation one can't expect to much.

i stumbled upon the following paragraph that scared the bejeezus out of me: .

Just as Jesus’ prophecies regarding Jerusalem were fulfilled within the life span of the generation of the year 33 C.E., so his prophecies regarding "the time of the end" will be fulfilled within the life span of the generation of 1914. (Daniel 12:4) This means that marvelous prospects lie before not only that generation but all those living today. Why? Because Jesus also said regarding the significant events affecting that generation: "When you see these things occurring, know that the kingdom of God is near."—Luke 21:28, 31.

The nearness of God’s Kingdom today spells the end of the present divisive political, religious and commercial systems. It means the ushering in of a righteous new government for all obedient mankind. You can choose everlasting life under this arrangement of "new heavens and a new earth." (2 Peter 3:13; John 17:3) Yes, you may live to see this promised New Order, along with survivors of the generation of 1914—the generation that will not pass away.

nothing new here just a reminder to those who havent been to hall for awhile.. a workmate just had his study cut off.

there were some things he was being taught that he agreed with (trinity) some he didnt (faithful and discreet slave being a group of old men in ny).

We had a talk a few weeks ago and one of the points they made was to check to see if it is the truth, see if what is being taught is truth...well except if you ask questions that are from a diffent mind thought other than the JW dictionary.

She should listen to what is said at the meeting, time and time again, that you can't make a person do what you want, they have to do it from their own heart. I think encouragment like, how are you darling? we have been thinking of you, want you to be part of the family starting from today, would you like to come around for tea....but they don't break bread with ones that don't associate with JW, I think that is stupid and unchristian.

This is where I get so upset and confused, joining the JW's because I wanted the justice of God's Kingdom to bring an end to this diabolical world of cruelty, and yet in two minds, screaming why does Jehovah allow it, we know the ol soverienty issue, Job and all, but things like this really makes me sick, do we have to have so much suffering to realise we need God's Kingdom, do the centuries tell the honesty of Satan's cruelty when we still see it in our 20th century yet see advancements in so many other area's, ex; people living longer. Is it the breakdown of righteousness the days of Noah, that is going to be the catalyst to the end of this cruel gross system. Forgive them for they know not what they do. I dont.

One of the things that finally dawned on me was that Russell was just another turn of the century prophet, and there wre several other religions started at the same time using essentially the same info Russell used. It hit me then, JWS were just another religion started at the turn of the century, not ispired by God, just a product of the time period.

Just another religion. That realization did it for me.

welcome to the board. Your story was great.

True what you say there were the millerites and others the advent ect, but you don't see them around and the growth is no where the Witnesses have grown and the preaching work is being accomplished world wide, no other org has achieved this as true the Jesus words in Mt29:19,20.

I have my own problems with the org, but this isn't one of them, I think that things changed over the years and they need to reform, I am hoping that Jehovah does this, especially with the issues of shunning family and focusing on the love, not hours.

Hi and thanks for you're kind words, no she isn't any elders wife that's the problem she wishes she was and is so jealous of the sisters, she is bitter, I really liked her when I came back, I needed a friend and thought this women is mature, answers up well, out witnessing regularily gives and volunteers for talks, she is mature a good example I thought, she seemed kind, but just used me to get info about things I opened up to her, just feelings and stuff and she stabbed me in the back, all because this old toad of a brother liked me and we used to pioneer years ago, and he always talked well of me. There is so much, but I dont want to rant, I just am so disappointed in the reaction of others as well. I feel betrayed. I dont' want to take it out on Jehovah, and their are some very caring loving sisters and brothers in the congregation, but I feel some how that I would be ignored by them if for example I was reproved if I told this person off, which I would love to let her know I know what she has been doing. I'm thinking of having the elders around and just telling them what I think, because I feel a hypocrite just coming on here and sounding off.

do you question it sometimes and think you should try to "reach out" to them again?

i was this morning and then came across the thread above and was reminded why i need to stay away.. but, still, i read threads of people who have managed somehow, despite being d'f'ed or faded or d'aed and think i might try to be more understanding, supportive, reach out or something.. despite all the problems growing up in a fairly dysfunctional family, i still feel a deep attachment to them and hope against hope that they might come to their senses (if they ever had any to begin with) and get help and leave the cult of jehobo; and we might reconcile,etc., etc., blah blah blah dream dream dream.. i deeply wish for them all freedom and happiness and healing and feel so helpless to free them of their bonds and yet see so much possibility for it, if only they could be reached somehow.

Ive read generlisations on this forum about witnesses, I mean what you say is not nessarsarily right either. The imperfect excuse makes me perk, I find hyprocrisy upon hyprocrisy using the well we are all imperfect to cover persons in the congregations that are cold insulting and back biting unchristian hypocrites, because these cold mugs that may give great talks go out witnessing regularily and dress like a Myers store dummy, then when trying to have a normal chat you realise this person is a tool, an uppity self righteous pharasee, who belives they are above everyone, I take people how I am personally treated, I don't give a rats if the person is inactive or never gave a talk, if the person shows respect for others along with fellow warmth and caring attitude, watches their tongue not because the elders may find out they are slanderous or a back biter but because they have a loving attitude, these are the ones I graviate towards.

Yes we are suppose to love everyone, even those that insult and abuse us, well I avoid those that I have tried to get along with only to be insulted abused and back stabbed about mainly through jelousy. I cant forever walk in the place and smile like they are wonderful loving christians, because they are not. And if I hear the "they are imperfect and that excuses them for insults and abuse backbiting, I will perk" did it ever occur to you that their are people that are ar*se holes full stop. Judgemental one may say, well to hell with that they are ar*s holes.
