i have only been here for a few months but in that short time i have received a lot help and encouragement here.
as some of you know i have had a few problems of a personal nature.
llbh, I didn't know about the tough time you've been having.
I don't know where I'd be without JWD. My daughter comes here too - she has been able to turn a tough corner too by reading and making friends here.

he is happy to see them but knows the problems associated with their visit will be hard to deal with.
you see, these relatives don't understand how difficult it is to come out of the cult and move on.

asking questions is very healthy imo . If the questions start bothering you or making you feel frustrated as they do me sometimes, my advise to you, cos it works for me, is to focus on your breathing in light meditation. After a few minutes I find, I start to feel very calm and then I revel in the enjoyment of life.
But I know that I'll always be a questioner - as a child I used to drive my parents nuts. So make friends with questions as I have done and expect for most of them to be unanswered but don't relinquish wonderment and surprise at life.
so it's january 1 and i want to lose ten pounds in ten weeks.
i've been on a diet for a year and a half and have lost 130 pounds.
weight loss has slowed down, so i need more focus and more exercise.
well I've completed my 500 calorie worth of exercise - its quite movtivating watching the calorie burning counter on the machine and its fun using different cardiovascular exercisers.
it's my first jwd birthday today and i just wanted to say a hug thank you to everyone on this board.. i am so glad i joined here, looking back over the last year i know i've come a long way.
i started out here knowing it wasnt the truth but not sure where to go or what to do.
throughout this year i've learnt so much about myself and feel i am finally being the person i want to be.

first of all, i'm an agnostic and don't know if there is a god or not.
however, i do think it possible to intelligently review the evidence and come to some reasonable conclusions, even if we can't have absolute certainty.
it's a big topic, so i'll just discuss the main reason that many people believe in god.

or could it point to a deep seated human desire to think of their dead family members as not really dead and gone, when they die, but still living.
In ancieint times and even now people worship and in the past deified their dead ancestors. Their badness was forgotten and their herioc deeds were kept alive through storytelling and myth and somehow humans started aiming to be like them and worshiping them.
It seems to me that "God" came out of human loss and as a way of making sense of death. That to me would expalin why it is such a deep seated concept and why it so comforting at times of death.

I'd like to see if I can lose 10 pounds in 10 weeks - I'll be happy if I end up losing just 5 lbs in 10 weeks. 1400/1500 calories is about fine for me. My calories today must have been about 3 times that, so am looking forward to starting tomorrow.
A daily food diary sounds like a good idea
to me, the witness religion is either a hardcore group of watchtower dogma believing "kool-aid" drinkers or a group of non-believing, mentally and spiritually lazy zombies who value their friendships and family over principle.. there are those in the middle who i believe are too fragile to even want to think about reality..
Strangely enough, on one level I see JW's as making a stand against democracy and self-government and clinging to totalitarianism with its illusion of stability with all their might. I see them as a politcial force I guess rather than a religion.
