siddhartha attained enlightenment after abandoning his privileged life and searching for truth about six years.. buddhism's four noble truths are that life is full of suffering, suffering is due to desires and attatchments, suffering can be eliminated by eliminating desires and attatchments, and the way to do this is by following the eightfold path.. the eightfold path includes right understanding, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration.. buddhism spread from india to china, where it developed into many sects, eventually spreading to japan, korea, vietnam, and the u.s.. a zen teacher can't hand you enlightenment but can point the way..

I think there is much practical advise for all of us to reflect on and try to keep a positive
upbeat frame of mind.. I belief most would agree that life is not always "a bowl of cherries "
I feel "ynots" advice about reading like Ray Franz book can be good in two ways...it focus's
our mind into another area thought.. also if religion is part of the problem as they say..
"the best defense is a good offense " ... fortify in your own mind about the value and common sense
that your updated beliefs system contain ! Our belief system is not something that can be switched on and
off like a light switch... one step ahead two steps back is quite normal.... time may be your greatest friend !
Just know that thousands have been at these crossroads ahead of you... most of us accepted things
on mere trust and faith... we didn't think our way in but now we must think our way out (a more challenging task )
The whole disfellowship thing is done with a purpose .... creating the holding power of a dead-end challenge !

Those talking about suicide are asking more for help than death. There is a point of despair that is sometimes reached and can be viewed aspermanent. Of course it isn't but that can be hard to see at the time. You're doing the right thing in sharing these thoughts
It has been said " suicide was bad decision making, "a permanent solution to a temporary problem." I agree with this but understand how the desperate mindset can lose sight of the "temporary problem" part of it.
As humans our biggest mistake can be to limit our hopes and dreams and to let our determination be discouraged. Always start by taking a day at a time.. go out for a meal...
do a hobby.. talk to a friend..take a long walk.. anything but sit alone in despair. (PM some more local people on JWD)

It's my 2 year anniversary on JWD

i had been an inactive jw for about 10 years at that point, and had been investigating catholicism for about a year.. i came to jwd from the timothy campbell site beyond jehovah's witnesses.
i was looking for all the reasons the jws had to be wrong, so i could convince my husband and children.. i found leolaia and amazing and cabasillas and atlantis and narkissus and others whose great research gave me so much to ponder about.
