For those that read the bible, does the true message of scripture still come through in NWT?
by NikL inmy active and in jw wife is up for reading bible together.
thing is she wants to use nwt.. i have problems with that translation as you my imagine.. just wondering if you thought the true message of the bible will shine through the deliberate tampering of the nwt?.
i know many people here don't like or want to read the bible and think it's rubbish anyway, so if that's you, you can save your comments :-).

I would say it is ok except anything relating to the divinity of Jesus, they have modified so much.
I would also say make sure you make them read every scripture in context not just the cherry picking.
I love biblehub.com for any translational issues. I use the NIV at the moment.

NWT cross references
by Steel inlately i have been really interested in the idea of who jesus was in the in old testament.
i have reading an author named michael heiser who generally believes anytime there was a physical manifestion of god in the old testament it was a pre incarnation of jesus christ.. i was reading the first chapter of jeremiah there is a figure called " the word of jehovah appears ".
this actually happens in a number of places in the old testament.

Some preachers think that Melchizedek was Jesus in physical form in the OT. I kind of like the idea but there is not enough hard data if you know what I mean.

Hi Midnight
We had a similar dilemma being born in's and waking up in our forties. The old "where are we to go", "what is out there".
We still believe in God but we have found:
- Nearly everyone we meet christian or not are really really good people
- The longer we are away from them the closer we get to God
- God does not have an organisation - infact Jesus wanted people to worship
him in different ways by Spirit. - They have mistranslated the Bible and skewed the most basic of teachings
- You don't need a building to go to with a group of people that you don't like to worship God.
I would suggest take your time, study what the athiests say as much as the scripture itself.
Try connect with God and see what happens also. I can't deny my connection to him as my Father.
I have too many things that have happened over the past few years - but that is my journey I am
sure you will have your own as many here do.If you want any help on the scriptural side I would be more than happy to help and share just PM me.
And by the way - congratulations - this journey is by no means easy but when you find true freedom
there is nothing like it. -

Not one visit, 8 years in a nursing home, and not one visit!
by Raymudas Martini inmy dad{rip}, was a faithful jw since the year i was born, i'm 60, he died 2 years ago.
his last 12 years were spent in an assisted living/nursing home right in the small town where he spent the last 8 years of being an elder/pioneer.
when he went into the home, one brother would visit him regularly, but after 4 years, that friend moved away, and visitation from the locals ceased, for 8 years!!!!!!!

Where will you go? What about the love?
They really believe their own rubbish. This is the true evidence of their fake love!

My Dad wants to study with me
by BlackWolf inso my parents continue to pester me about getting baptized.
the other day my dad told me that i was old enough to make a decision, and was wondering why i wasn't ready (assembly is in a few weeks) so i told him calmly that i have many doubts and if i were to get baptized it has to be 100 percent my idea.
he was a little annoyed by this, and now wants to study the "is there a creator that cares about you" book (which is complete bs) with me.

Hi Blackwolf
Their teaching is so far removed from scripture if you stick to the bible you might convert him.
Here is what I would do:
- Take the study but only as a "bible" study not a book study
- Make you Dad answer everything from the scriptures but make him read the whole context of each scripture when he does - most times the scripture is misapplied and unravels when you read the chapter.
- Only ask bible questions - there is a bunch of questions you could answer to not get his "apostate" radar activated.
- Also see if he would help you research other religions, there are some vids on people escaping the brethren that really could get him thinking about the JW's.
- Start reading the greek scriptures from another translation - that will be the "reason" you are asking questions.
Here are some don'ts:
- Stay away from bashing the GB - he will just get defensive
- Stay away from stupid doctrine like the FDS - they will never see it. Keep to bible translation and scriptures about Jesus.
I am sure more learned people here could supply you with questions, but PM me if you want mine.

I am glad to have found the true religion

Hi A Believer I hope you have a Greek / Hebrew Interlinear handy. If not check out www.biblehub.com
The reason I left was purely scriptural - so I am hoping you are a keen student of the scriptures.
I have about 50+ other bible questions, I will return if you can answer them scripturally. Here are some thing I hope you can answer for me.
1 - Col 1:17 according to the greek is a total mistranslation. It misrepresents Jesus totally and looks like the NWT has been changed to fit in with doctrine. Can you help me understand why it has been translated that way?
2 - If you look at every use of Jehovah in the Greek scriptures, can you explain why the society has added Jehovah to 70+ scriptures when they were not a direct quotation from the Hebrew? This is exactly what they accuse the other religions of doing by taking his name out.
3 - Search for "obeisance" in your bible app. Can you explain why the exact same greek word is translated obeisance when it comes to Jesus - but worship when it comes to God?
I did a thorough study of my scriptures as a witness - I sourced my information straight from the bible not any "apostate" sites. I could do this all day long.
My feeling is if you are a sincere worshipper of God you will want to find out these answers. Happy to provide more questions. Happy for you to PM me also.

Honest Questions About Child Abuse
by Richard Oliver ini have two honest questions for everyone here.
i understand that most here want retribution from the courts against watchtower for child abuse allegations.
but let us take away the instances where someone was accused of child abuse and then later put back into a position of authority, such as an elder or an ms. let us just take the cases where a regular publisher or even an appointed person, with no previous accusation of child abuse has come up against that person.

Hi Richard, many are trying to change the laws. Have you seen the ARC, I think this will have a big effect.
However why should not the WT pay for their gross mismanagement of warning people of pedophiles in the congregation. I have known many affected by the lack of transparency - this has led to multiple serial offences when it could have been prevented simply by showing logic and the correct love.
For example, elders are not permitted to warn the parents of children if a pedophile moves into the congregation. These people may need help but why are they allowed to assocaite with the children and fuel their problem?
It was blatently obvious in the ARC that not only are their procedures flawed, but they don't give a stuff about their own people. Every other religion is being forced to pay for and help the victims, why should the WT be exempt.

Fading or Disassociating
by Saethydd inhello, i'm new here.. i'm a college student who has been raised in the "truth" for my entire life.
i was baptized at 10 years old, and looking back now i know i didn't fully grasp everything involved, for one thing i don't even recall ever going to jehovah in a special prayer to dedicate myself to him, but anyway that's the past and my focus is really on the present.
i'm currently pursuing an associates degree, but i find myself desiring to pursue a bachelors in my chosen field so that i may have a somewhat more secure future.

Hi Saethydd
I am always so excited when I hear about young people waking up, especially knowing they are going to college and getting an education.
Congratulations, it is a big journey and it sounds like you have just started. You will be amazed how deep the programming is with this religion.
We chose the fading route due to family and also being well known in a city. It also has it's challenges and you still face the "family crap" even when you are not DF'd. Regardless for us I still feel it is better not to be treated like a leper because we have such a big family.
All the best with your journey.
