i don't want to high jack african gb's thread but something got me thinking.... moses, abraham were inbred and hearing god's voice... paul never met jesus yet he is the only apostle coming down like a hammer of gays and has this "close bond" with timothy.
then there is the issue of "horus" the egyptian god and is this where the story of jesus comes from.
i have searched the internet for information on horus and have not had much luck finding anything authorative either way.. my question is do you or don't you believe in the bible and why or why not?

i have seen witnesses make a big deal over attending a dedication ceremony at a new kingdom hall, assembly hall or bethel branch.
i have attended a few myself.
as a witness, i had always understood that this ceremony is to dedicate the building's use to the worship of jehovah by 'true christians'.
Does the building's Dedication have no meaning whatsoever? I believe the dedication is null and void when they sell the building to someone other than JWs. At that point it is considered dedicated to Satan and his system of things.
There is an assembly hall in the midwest that is now used by a big church. They do tv broadcasts and plays and everything. Actually they bought the entire block and opened a Xtian bookstore among other things. Witnesses would make little nasty remarks whenever we drove by the place. In their eyses it went from a place of "life" to a place of "death".

Do I believe the Bible is the inspired word of God? No.
However, I think it has good stories with good lessons that will benefit the masses. But then again so does books written by Joel Olsten, Tony Robbins and Suze Orman.
in my congregation we have many urban legands, like the one about the smurf doll jumping out of a girls lap and running out of the kh because it couldn't stand to hear the good news.
we also had one where a sister was out in fs and a dog talked, it told a sister not to knock on this one door, the sister went to the house and knocked anyway, and the doors and windows of the house flew open and dishes flew out, the sister was scared and ran away and the dog yelled at her retreating back "i told you not to got here!
".
1. A JW mother heard an unknown voice coming from her young daughter's room. Asked her daughter who she was talking to and her daughter said her friend. The mother peeked inside the room because she thought it would be cute to see her daughter "doing make-believe" only to see the smurf doll having a full conversation with her daughter. She grabbed the smurfed doll and threw it into the fireplace. It burned for a few minutes then the mom opened the door to let out the odd fumes. The smurf dolled jumped up and ran out the door.
2. A JW purchased lingerie at a thrift shop (go figure ) and she put it on one night. Well, her and her husband starting talking and whenever they said "Jehovah" the gown would squeeze her real tight. They figured it must be demonized. So she tossed it. The next day it was back in her dresser. They cut it into pieces and tossed it again. The next day it was back in her dresser. They took it outside and burned it and prayed as it burned. It did not return the next day.
3. A couple were in service and about to be attacked by a dog. The wife held out the Watchtower just as the dog leaped towards her and the dog immediately stop, dropped its head and ran away wimpering.
i've got my fair share of things that irritate me to no end regarding this religion.
however, i have to be fair.
i got up this morning, and for some reason i didnt feel overwhelmingly negative about what i was getting ready to do.
Have you done any voluneer work since you left the JWs that would be in line with what you enjoyed doing?
All the time. I work with several local organizations on various projects.

The ministry itself - absolutely not.
Whenever I did something kind or helped a householder with no interest in the literature with something (finding a job, senior care & transportation, finding free afterschool programs) I was regularly reminded that the ministry is not a social service.
i'm sure topics like this have already come up but they tend to get hilarious with the absolute absurdity that goes on in the kh.
i was once counseled for not shaving after two days.
i was also counseled by a sister for eating lucky charms cereal.
English congregation: Wearing my hair down and heels on the same day.
Spanish congregation: Wearing a blouse where you see the cap of my shoulders.
Black dubs in large cities wear them all the time. Some look cute, some look smart and some look stupid. Then I realized the bowtie had nothing to do with it.
about a month ago, i posted here about this fella standing outside of big lot's with magazines in his hand.. this morning, at about 11am, i went to big lot's to get some birdseed.
well, lo and behold, there he was again.
i said, "well, he is a jehovah's witness, and he is handing out literature.
Who knows - he may have an assembly part where he gets to talk about it, too
He'll have a part on the assembly but it will end with the security guard getting baptized and becoming a regular pioneer that aided an entire village in Uganda into the organization.
I saw her point up to my apartment and the next thing I know I get a call from the callbox downstairs from a gentleman claiming to be a book salesman and saying that my mother told him I was interested in what he had. I told him no thank you and hung up on him.
Funny and upsetting at the same time. Your mom should respect that you've chosen the "malediction" and leave it at that.
whether it be father's day, mother's day, christmas or even a birthday, do you actually enjoy the celebrations, the spending of $$, and all that these festivities entail?.
or would you rather be a jw (just) for those times and not deal with it all?.
I love it! All of it! Even Father's day...my dad is not a JW so I really look forward to it and so does he since I'm the only kid to now acknowledge it. Think my mom is a little jealous...LOL.
My JW sister, who knows I'm living life, confided in me that she wants to celebrate her birthday at least once before she dies...how sad.
