They both have been nothing but wasters of one's time, energy, intellect, money and spirit since they both began.
Double phooey on them!!!
phooey on the watchtower corporation(s) and all things involving jehovah's witnesses!.

if ed mcmahan were to show up at your door with 1 million dollars do you believe this would help you?
would your outlook change, and how?.
1 million dollars would be a major windfall for me.
I won't sneeze at 600K
JG, neither would I. But I don't think I would let Ed take my picture. Can you imagine being in the commercials and advertisements? All types of looneys would come out of nowhere. But yeah, if Ed came to my door right now, I'd take the money. I don't enter in those sweepstakes for nothing!

A million dollars is not a lot of money...in the States. Especially after you get hit with taxes on winnings, you are left with what... about $600K. I hate to say this, but if you have financial trouble now, the winnings will most likely only be a temporary fix. Statistics show that you will end up right where you started if not worse if you typically have 'bad debt' or do not know how to manage your finances when a win-fall of money comes your way.
I would donate $100k, do my part in stimulating the economy (aka shopping ) and invest the rest.
it looks creepy.
my daughter and her boyfriend saw it.
they said it was great.. i love scary movies, but none have really scared me in a long time.. .
I haven't saw a scary flick in a while but for the Strangers. However, the Happening was kind of spooky to me it seems like something that could actually happen. I guess the Strangers could happen too but it wasn't scary to me.
ok, i was going to ask whether christians have higher morals, but i thought that other religions have the same kind of morals too.. when i look at those who sincerely follow their religion, i think that they do have a higher morality than those who do not follow some sort of scriptural guidelines.. this is not to say that the religious have a monopoly on morality, or to say that some religious people are not hypocritical in doing what they say, rather than what they do.
but as a whole it seems to me that someone with a religious upbringing has higher standards than someone without.. now some would say that higher standards or lower standards are defined by society, so therefore by whose definition do they have higher morals.
this would be a fair assumption.
Nope.
I really don't think following morals has anything to do with religion althougth its typically associated with religion. IMO, living a moral life is about accountability. For some its accountability to God and to others its accountability to mankind. Over the past year, I've met many non-religious folks that are more moral and purely upstanding than a lot of the holyrollers. No doubt, its because the holyrollers do it because they feel they must (punishment vs reward) and the non-religious simply because they believe its the right thing to do.
this was pretty accurate!

It was spot on , except for the part about how I tend to dress. Very interesting.

Thanks Blondie. Great job as usual.
I'm finding it more and more difficult to read these articles without getting very upset. They are basically telling the young people to toss their future away, don't live up to their potential and be satisfied with spiritual pursuits that lead them nowhere. Well that's just a bunch of crap. I'm so glad my dad isn't a JW and I went to college. Why can't they tell the young people to serve Jehovah and go to college? It works until you see the org for what it was. But in the meantime, they can get a lot out of you physically and financially. That was true in my case. That approach seems like a better racket. I can't tell you how many of my pioneering JW friends have called me for money over the years because they have trouble making ends meet. So what they were pioneers, so was I!!! I just chose not to clean toilets.
Sad thing is most of my nieces and nephews under 10 are already baptized. They try to get them that young because those kids don't know what they are doing and by the time they figure it out, they will feel like they have too much to lose so they stick around. I've spoken with their parents about college funds but they don't see a need because their children have "spiritual goals".
Its articles like this one and the one from last week, that make me want to get my family together and tell them to get OUT of this religion.
has anyone else heard tell of interviewees in convention parts being told what to say?
the way i've heard it is you're contacted to be interviewed in a convention talk because you've had a great experience in some form or other and they need you to boast about it.
so, you meet with the brother handling the assignment and you go through your experience with him (boast about it).
I've given a few parts. The first time, the brother let me tell the experience exactly as it happened, I think because it was entertaining enough and didn't need any spicing up. But for the other times, I saw how the brothers basically changed the story of almost everyone to be interviewed and basically told them what to say. I remember telling a friend that I don't believe most of the experiences because most of them are pumped up or stretched for dramatic effect. One brother got upset because he asked me a question and I answered honestly instead of telling the lie he wanted me to tell. After that I turned down all invites to do assembly parts.
