From 1881 until 1953 the Watchtower believed that Jehovah resided at the center of the universe on the star Alcyone in the cluster known as Pleiades.
I can't believe I used to be one of them.
wt 1981 .
"actually, by teaching that god is omnipresent christendom has confused matters and made it more difficult for god to be real to his worshipers.
how could god be present everywhere at the same time?

maybe it was a test to root out the mole(s) within ....
People on this board have already mentioned it to a few folks and then they told a few folks and then they told some more folks...no way they can trace it back so now everyone is a mole
I heard it was going to happen in Jan. Anyone have any new news on this?
That's possible. When the hours were reduced from 90 to 70 it was effective on Jan 1st and then they provided the new yearly goal to be reached by August. I believe then the announcement was made in mid\late December.
wow, .
i heard yesterday that 50 (yes 50) young people have been disfellowshipped within the past month in my .
old circuit.
About few years ago there were mass df'ing of teens from 3 circuits. About 5 were reproved and 4 were df'd from my congo and even more from another congo in the same hall. They were involved in a sex ring. It seems that the reproved teens were only involved in oral and fingering and the df'd teens were involved in actual intercourse. The ages ranged from 13 to 16. And supposed there also same-sex activity involved.
Most of the teens claimed they didn't know that oral or fingering was a no-no for JWs. You should have heard local needs talk .
They are all kids of elders, most of them with pioneering mothers. Did I mention that a number of these kids were on the CA as 'examples' a few months before they were reproved\df'd. The ring had been going on for some time. I think only one of the teens still attend meetings.
do the beliefs common to jw's cause them to have a happier worldview and a better outlook on life?
Not really. A lot of them are unhappy but put on a good show when in the congregation or around other JWs. Plus quite a few are on meds.
jw's sometimes speak about how they don't wish to "stumble" non-jw's or cast a bad light upon the organization.
do jw's watch movies at home which they would not want non-jw's to observe them watching in a theatre?.
if they do, do you feel that they are really concerned about what the non-jw's think, or are they more concerned with being observed by other jw's?
Yes. I know several JWs that have R-rated, X-rated and horror DVDs in their "private" collection. In the past when I've been in the home of JW's and they want to show me something online, I usually take a quick look at their online history and just about every time there are porn links regularly listed in the history. This folks were men, women, single, married, young, old.
For instance, I know a few witnesses that went to see certain R-rated movies with the reasoning that it would better prepare them for the great tribulation.
some of my friends claim that growing up as witnesses was a normal experience, in the sense that they did not miss celebrating hollidays or associating with wordly people.
these friends are witnesses in good standing, therefore, i doubt their sincerity and feel that they just do not want to go agaist the party line.
in my case, since i always had the desire to participate in extracurricular activities in school (and did when i could), always felt actracted to politics and art, it was very hard.
Yes. Sometimes I would realize how odd my behavior was and I felt like a real idiot. One time a co-worker asked me in all seriousness, "So what's wrong with New Years?". He just didn't get it and told me that he thought I had been brainwashed. When it came time for birthdays at work, I typically signed the cards and but never actually wrote 'happy birthday".
Even now, its difficult in social settings because there's still that dub mentality that will creep up on me. Have any of you ever noticed that most dubs cannot have normal conversations with non-dubs? They typically get very quite even when its basic, cordial conversation.
i have came to the conclusion that all i learned while growing up as a witness is not the "truth'.
i believe i have become agnostic in a short period of time.
so, this year i decided that we are going to celebrate some holidays.
Questioning, you're not the only one. I REALLY want to do halloween. It will be my first time. I got invited to a pre-halloween party this weekend for everyone to try out their costumes. I'm even nervous about that. Maybe its because we become 'officially worldly' once we start doing the holidays.
as many of you know, i've got a new job.
quitting my old one is proving to be difficult.
i gave my boss two weeks notice.
Nos,
First of all, your loyalty should NOT be to any employer, neither your current one OR the soon-to-be-employer. Do what is best for you!!! Your life or future should not be up for negotiation. Do not communicate to your soon-to-be-employer about the needs of your current employer. Its a waste of his\her time. Do not respond back to current employer about staying longer. If your current employer ask you again about staying let him know that you "are working things out with your new employer". If he volunteers again to contact your new employer, let him know that you are capable of working it out (say it with a smile). Whatever you do, don't play games or pull any tricks\pranks or try to prove anything. Just be professional and short but kind with your responses.
Then on YOUR last day, as you exit out the door, click 'send' on your good-bye email and don't look back. Worrying about having a good-bye party? Then contact your old co-workers for a lunch\happy hour during the first week at your new position.
Congrats on your new position at a new company!!!
