it seems that religion has always been considered the opium of the people.
or at least many tend to gravitate towards religion to have or solidify some sort of future with a supreme being overlooking them hoping to have a reward either in heaven or in the jehovah's witnesses case - living forever in a " paradise earth ".
it seems that people can't just live day to day and let each day come to them with whatever happens.
Something in human nature makes us think that we [humanity] are so special. That the world will come to an end, just because we said so.
The Earth and the Universe will go on, with or without us. We're not as special as we think.
There have been many religions that believed and predicted the end of the world.
They were all wrong.

" nwt... jehovahs witnesses believe this is refering to our time with a final fulfillment imminent which of course triggers total destruction for nearly everyone and everything.
This is not just a problem with JWs. One of the reasons for so many Christian denominations, is that you can pick and choose your own preferences from the bible [and ignore the ones you don't like].
If you focus on just one scripture and try to micro-analyze it to death, then you'll always be frustrated by unfullfilled prophecies/promises.
it has long been pointed out by apostates, myself included, on this board and others that if the jw's really believed the end of this "system of things" is coming, why are they not making practical efforts to prepare.. .
the only thing the watchtower and awake will be good for after this believed meltdown is toilet paper!
