Panorama: outstanding!
by comment ini didn't see all of panorama, but what i did see was outstanding.
in its depth and thoroughness, it surpassed what dateline had to offer.
it really highlighted some key points: .

Words can not describe the impact of the program, it was to the point highlighted the plight of the poor innocent victims of the rules and regulations that the society abide by. And the governing body member that was confronted by the reporter!!!! Well what a complete idiot he looked, he didnt make any sense at all.

The Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians who believe the teachings of the Bible, using their own translation.
Their beliefs differ from mainstream Christian religions in various areas.
They do not celebrate Christmas or Easter, but do remember Christ's death.
They believe Jesus Christ was not crucified on a cross but rather on a stake. Therefore the symbol of the cross is not significant.
The end of the world
Jehovah's Witnesses believe they will survive Armageddon, the end of the world, and go on to live on a paradise on earth.
The imminent end of the world has always been a crucial part of their beliefs.
As early as 1876 Charles Taze Russell, the founder of the religion, wrote an article in which he gave the date for the end of the world as 1914.
The end of the world was proclaimed again by Judge Rutherford, the next president of Watchtower in 1935, in a talk given years earlier, "Millions Now Living Will Never Die", on the belief that God would bring the end to the world at that time.
Rutherford built a mansion in California and titled it to the ones to be resurrected after the believed end in 1935.
When the end did not occur it was quietly sold after his death.
Another date for the end of the world, announced widely in the organisation's publications, was 1975. Many Jehovah's Witnesses sold their homes and gave up their jobs to go witnessing door-to-door full time.
The organisation no longer gives a specific date for the end for the end of the world but strongly emphasises that it is due soon.
They believe there are only 144,000 who will go to heaven as rulers.
Blood
Jehovah's Witnesses believe taking blood into the body through the mouth or veins violates God's law. Those who do so can be expelled.
In Genesis 9, humans are told they can eat any flesh except that which still has its soul, or its blood, in it. Also in the books of Leviticus, Deuteronomy, First Samuel and Acts 15 are texts which the Jehovah's Witnesses claim point to the Bible's disapproval of the consumption of blood.
This policy extends to disallowing blood transfusions, even those which involve a person's own blood.
Over the years the organisation has softened its attitude somewhat and no longer condemns organ transplants or the infusion of blood products.
Despite still banning transfusions of a person's own blood which has been earlier removed and stored, they do allow blood which is lost during an operation to be collected, cleaned and returned to the body in a process called blood salvaging.
This policy of refusing blood transfusions has been very controversial and sometimes brought the Jehovah's Witnesses into conflict with medical and legal authorities.
It has been estimated close to 1000 Jehovah's Witness children die each year due to this policy.

Belief in God ( The Problem with Evil) Correction
by JT inmy wife and i are back in school again and we are in a philosophy class and the issue of god has come up in the research material and the following is under consideration for us- .
being involved in trying to explain the reason that god permits wickness i find the explanation that i use to use from the platform as a jw to be very weak to say the least .
yet i find that it is the same basic explantion given by most "beleivers" and it too is weak as tea.

Why does god permit evil? Because he doesnt exist!

They Don't Care If It Is Not The Truth
by Dutchy inone of my brothers in an elder in his congregation and the other is a co. they have both told me that they don't beieve that jehovah's witnesses have the truth and they are aware of the hypocrisy in the organization but they don't care.
they will never renounce their membership in this organization.
when asked why they say that they love the adulation given to them by the brothers.. the are always the first to be invited to the homes of the friends, they are sought out for advise and it makes them feel like big, important men.. the truth is that this organizaation does serve a purpose for some people.

The truth is they enjoy being spiritual policemen and having so called authority from God to tell you what to do and not to do. Well I have authority from my own personal choice to tell them to go and SHOVE IT!

Alpha Meetings! What are they? Who are they?
by freeborg ini was wondering if any one has ever been involved or are involved in a group known as alpha.
they provide a 15 meeting course on their beliefs.
these groups and others like them have made me wonder if we all agree that wts is corrupt and harmfull what makes another group with strong beliefs and convictions right, are we not falling into the same trap as when we were witnesses if we get involved in any of the hundreds of sects, cults, denominations that are out there.. http://alphacourse.org/about/whatis.htm

cherjcd,
From your comments it seems my feelings that JW's are a target for groups like this is right. You mentioned that you are currently helping former JW's, helping them to do what exactly.
