i think most of the dissimilarities /"problems" as to the concentration camps figures you give, or more correctly, the watchtower literature gives, is due to the perspective from which it is seen, what the articles are really about.
when you quote from the 1974 yearbook, that article deals with the history of the german witnesses.

You know Norm I have to agree with the Watch Tower apologists here.
Not to criticize you, but you do have a tendency to see everything the Watch Tower does as something done with bad intent. You really need to cut these folks some slack.
As far as the numbers go, it’s not like the Watch Tower Society is anal or really cares that much about numbers. I’m sure any discrepancies you uncovered were as a result of a simple accounting error on their part. Perhaps as was suggested, the differences in numbers can be attributed to different points of view. Do you really think they paid particular attention to numbers when 1,687 of them had lost their jobs or for that matter the 284 lost their businesses or even when 735 that lost their homes? I say no and I’m sure the 457 that were not allowed to carry on their trade, and the 129 that had their property confiscated and the 826 pensioners that had been refused their pensions or even the 329 that had suffered other personal loss would all agree with me Norm.
It’s not like the Watch Tower was really paying to much attention to numbers Norm; they made some simple math errors or something just as innocent.
Lets face it Norm, even the 860 children who had been taken away from their parents, would agree with me too. You might be a smart guy and all Norm, but the 8,917 people arrested and sentenced to serve 13,924 years and two months in prison can’t all be wrong, now can they?
I’m sure of this Norm; as sure as I am about ENRON being the innocent victim of a few minor accounting errors too. So lighten up Norm, just lighten up!

no blood cards this year!
by DIM inlast night at meeting they told us to just use our blood cards from last year.
in the past they've always told us how important it was to get it signed every year so that people could see our current views as jw's.....doesn't this new arangement negate everything they've ever said in regards to this?

Don’t sweat the message on the answering machine; for years I got visits whenever it was quota time.
If they come by just act sheepish (if you can do that without throwing up) and say things like I’ll think about attending, but don’t give them a firm commitment for which they can dog you about. Then later after they leave, you can flip a coin and determine if you want to go to the mind-numbing meeting or stay home. If the coin flip says stay home, then by all means stay home. And if it says go to the meeting, flip the coin again and again until it gives you the correct answer.

i have been e-mailing with a very nice person who has started 'independently thinking' lately.
because of this thread i wrote her that she should be careful of people finding her e-mails.. the very next day her husband had hacked into her e-mails and was very upset.. i was just wondering for all of you- how many have experiences like this?.

Many years ago, (am I dating myself?) I wrote a simple program called “crack” that brute force hacked encrypted passwords on Unix systems using a form of the Data Encryption Standard (DES).
To the best of my knowledge, that was the first such program of it’s type. Originally written in shell script and then later converted to the “C” language, versions of it are now all over the net in various forms.Programmers, much more talented then myself, (NASA’s brilliant Matt Bishop comes to mind) have now optimized password cracking programs to the point that if one is able to get to the encrypted password file, it is not a matter of “IF” it can be cracked, but “WHEN” it will be cracked. Amazing! It’s kind of cool that you folks are talking about this stuff. I never expected this topic on this board; thanks for a trip down memory lane.

I don’t know if you can honestly say that being a JW made him a criminal just because he was JW when he committed fraud.
Fred’s a JW and he would never commit fraud, would you Fred? For that matter I’m a JW too, and I never committed fraud.
I only see two guilty of fraud here, brother Longo and the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society.

Please don’t tarnish the title “hacker” by linking it to the Borg.
I was a professional hacker for many years and have been paid many thousands of dollars for my services (mostly from your taxes thanks) and never would I even imagine using spiritual type warfare tactics on anyone. Hackers of the ‘old school’ don’t destroy system or peoples lives. We hack for the same reason people climb mountains, because it challenges us, because it’s there.

JWs & Personal Finance
by Valis inperhaps this is not a widespread phenomenon, but have any of you considered the ramifications in regards to many jw families never saving for retirement or college funds, becues they thought the end was near, or college was a non-issue for so many of us?
just recently my parents never saved any money, becuase the promise of the end coming soon, but as old age creeps closer, i think some of the policy is revealing itself to be really bad advice.
i also wonder how long jws have to keep working after retirement age than the rest of the 'worldlies".

Well I can’t speak for others, but for me it has meant I must play catch-up when I should be starting to slow down. It’s my own fault; I started saving for retirement only a few years ago because the new system was right around the corner. Yep, I purchased week 53 of the Watch Tower timeshare like so many others before me. What a sucker I was.
Just a thought, what about all those Bethel workers as they advance in years? Social security is based on what you earn and what your employer contributes. They earn virtually nothing and we know the Watch Tower contributes not one dime. So what will they do when they get old?

Thank you for the reply. Yes the Bible speaks about blood, not eating it, abstaining from it. But do Jehovah’s Witnesses really abstain from blood in the Biblical sense? Do you eat meat? Well I’m sure if you asked the brothers in your Hall, they would assure you no JW’s are part of the army too. Likely they would be telling you what they believe to be the truth, but their ignorance does not change the fact that obtaining a cartila automatically places one in the Army reserve. Many Mexican witnesses have the cartila card, and all of them are part of the Army reserve as a result, that is a fact. Don't take my word for it, research it. They likely will never be called to duty, but so what they are part of the army nonetheless. And if it were just ignorance that would be fine, most of the brothers don’t know about such things, but the governing body does. If you really want to know what the governing body does and does not know about this and other things, I suggest you read a book written by a person that was a member of the governing body for many years. His name is Ray Franz, and the book is called Crisis of Conscience. Look for it in your local library it’s also available in many bookstores and of course AMAZON.com
I know this gentleman personally; I had lunch with him at Bethel many years ago when he was part of the governing body. He was then and remains now a very soft-spoken Christian of the finest caliber. Unlike many you will find on this board, he is not bitter and seeks no vengeance, and this is very much reflected in his writing. He does however insist on complete honesty and that is what he presents in his book. And you don’t have to just take his word for anything he says. He presents tons of documentation to back up what he says, even internal Watch Tower memos and copies of publications.
I must warn you, he is no longer a Witness as he was disfellowshiped in the eighties. What was his crime? He was seen having lunch with the man that is both his boss and his landlord. His boss was disassociated from the congregation at the time. That was his crime.
If you read this book and anyone finds out, you could be disfellowshiped too just for reading it, remember this is forbidden knowledge. So you have to weigh the risks. I can’t promise what you will get out of reading this book other then one thing; you will learn the truth. That is all I can offer you and that is all Ray Franz will offer you too. What you do with this information is up to you. May God bless you as you seek first his Kingdom.

Ok you asked a good question, you said: “One question, what rules does the Governing Body impose that are not in the Bible?”
Would you please show me in the Bible where it says you can have only some parts of blood but not others?
Could you show me the scripture that says men should not have beards? Why can’t a man with a well-trimmed beard become an Elder?
How about the scripture that says organ transplants are forbidden? Oh never mind on that one God told them it was ok after all. To bad thousands had to die before they printed the change in the Watchtower.
Could you show me the scripture where it says that if a baptized witness joins the US army reserves, he is to be dissociated or disfellowshiped. And while you are at it look up the scripture that says it’s ok in Mexico to obtain a cartia card, (it’s like a draft card in the US and necessary to obtain a visa) which automatically places you in the Mexican army reserves, but unlike the US, you are not disfellowship or disassociated for becoming part of Mexico's army.
This is but a handful of the many rules that are not in the Bible. Do you need more?
