The dishonesty I found in this WT publication is what finally opened my eyes.

another fine example of the watch tower dishonestly quoting and taking out of context what people believe and say.. this fine example was emailed to me by a good friend an ex district overseer in the usa.
let me offer a good example of the use of selective quotations.
for many, many years the society has quoted famed british astronomer sir fred hoyle out of context.
The dishonesty I found in this WT publication is what finally opened my eyes.

the main reason given in the 1973 watchtower was that smoking is tied in with spiritism because the greek word which is rendered as spiritism is pharmakia' which literally means "druggery," (see galatians 5:20.
) therefore the argument was made that by smoking we put ourselves under spiritistic or demonic control.
for the last 20 years i haven't heard this reason used.. today the reasons given are that smoking shows no respect for your body as well as for life and that smoking doesn't show love of neighbor.
The true reason smoking is a Disfellowshipping offense is because a group of men that control the lives of others who in turn let their lives be controlled say it is.
This is the essence of a religious cult, or more correctly as Francois so well stated, a high control group. Men that claim to be Gods direct channel tell others what to do and if you dont do as they say, you are guilty of not offending and disobeying men, but God himself. They make up and change the rules as they go.
Yes folks, we were part of a cult, but thank God we came to our senses before we drank the cool-aid.

this week i find myself a few thousand miles from my home on a business trip to california.
i look at it as a paid vacation and a chance for my young son to see what california is like for the first time.
he thinks the girls are hot, and i have to agree.
This week I find myself a few thousand miles from my home on a business trip to California. I look at it as a paid vacation and a chance for my young son to see what California is like for the first time. He thinks the girls are hot, and I have to agree. He just loves it here. I've been here about a week and I don't know maybe it's because I'm out of town and nobody knows me here but I just felt I had to commit and act of sedition.
Yesterday, Sunday 19, some dubs apparently decided it would be a good idea to drop off the Watchtower and Awake rags in the lobby of the hotel where I am staying. I found myself with a dilemma. Should I let them sit there and do nothing putting others at risk? Should I put them in the trash, which is where they truly belong? Or should I do something creative with them and do it without displaying hostility towards the Borg in front of my young impressionable son. I opted for the latter.
On each and every one of these cult rags I wrote one of the simplest yet most powerful messages one could write here in Silicon Valley. I simply wrote
www.silentlambs.org People don't understand the blood issue, the doctrine issues, the false prophecy etc. But people really do understand pedophilia and when they go to this site they see the Watchtower is on the wrong side of this issue.
When I get home I am going to see about getting stickers made with that message to place on every such rag I happen upon. I'm even thinking of starting a "magazine route", visiting Laundromats, stores, and doctors offices where I know these rags are often "placed".
Sedition in the Californian sun is just such good fun!
Burn Watchtower burn!

Guilty,
All she had to do was fill out one single form, a form of intent to sell. If she did this she would be home free. Even Bush and Cheney filled out theirs, thats why they were found without fault after several investigations over and over again (not that you would know that from the way the news slants it, but in reality they did nothing wrong).
In Marthas case she was a licensed broker and she knew the rules, and the rules are that if she trades on so-called insider info she has to disclose it so as to let other people not privy to that same info have a fair chance at getting out before the stock tanks. IMO Martha needs to see a little jail time like the rest of us would if we did the same thing.

was it jehovahs witnesses who acknowledge the church father as leading teachers?
this is a very interesting statement by justin.
do you accept origen as an authority when he said jesus is our god?
You have made some good points and it is abuntely clear the Watchtower writers are amazingly dishonest in this particular subject.
I remember, placing that Trinity brochure myself. Of course I never researched it for myself and so I have nobody to blame but myself for being so thoroughly deceived. Many years later I have now independently read many of the the works of the early church fathers and there is no doubt whatsoever they believed in the divinity of Christ. Further the Holy Spirit is believed to also be a viable personality equal to the Father and the Son.
And lastly, I agree they espoused at least what would be considered an early formation of the concept of a Trinity doctrine in their many writings.
Personally I will not debate if they were correct in their thinking, but like Thomas they did indeed believe Jesus to be both their Lord and their God.
Bottom line, the Watctower is lying through their teeth. So what else is knew?

as a few may recall watchtower policy has changed when circumstances serves the interest of the governing body in getting rid of someone they want to railroad.
an example that has been offered involves peter gregerson.
peter was a personal friend to ray franz, in 1980 peter wrote a letter to the society, saying he wanted no further association with the organization.
Bill,
I dont mean to sound disrespectful but you are getting exactly what you deserve. And if I were in their position, I would take similar actions against you too because its all they seem to know how to do.
The fact is that you Bill Bowen are a stand-up guy and they are sniveling cowards, and this is how cowards deal with people like you. Their problem with you Bill is that you just refuse to play by their rules and you wont roll over and you wont play dead.
You were supposed to turn a blind eye to the abuse going on like so many others in the organization have, but you didnt. And now through all the publicity you have generated, you are shinning a light on them and they are scrambling like a bunch of cockroaches.
In their twisted geriatric minds they are taking a logical course of actions against you. From their viewpoint you got in their face about it, you showed them up for what they are, and now they are dealing with you in the only way they know how. How sad to see Gods supposed channel act like foolish old men, but that is what they are fools.
Hang in there my friend, you are better then they are and you have thousands if not millions on your side.
Freeman (proud to just share the planet with someone like Bill Bowen)
i've worked for 2 different brothers in my lifetime.
since they're a brother, you're supposed to be treated better than a worldly employer, right??
ha!
Many years ago I went into partnership with a brother.
We owned an automotive parts rebuilding shop. He (separately) also owned an auto parts sales route. His sales business was in effect one of our clients just like any of our other customers. So far so good untill one day he decided since he also was in partnership with the producer of the parts, he would now supply himself free of charge. Oh how nice, so he cuts me out.
Wait it gets better.
We had a written agreement that either one of us could buy the other out for a preset price. I felt I was getting screwed (which I was) and he said it was OK to invoke my option, however the written price we agreed to should now be lowered because we had used some supplies and so the value of the business was somewhat depleted. What?
We sold a lot of stuff so the business is not worth as much, eh? Is this new light? Right who needs a business that sells a lot of stuff, what was I thinking?
True we did not have the same amount of stock as when we started, but so what, these materials were used to manufacture auto parts that we sold, putting money in our pockets equally.
I knew I was getting a hose'n but I agreed to take less then what we had in writing because I new if I didnt take what he offered, the BROTHER would see to it that I would be taking it up-the-ass without any vasiline at all.
Now he was only a Ministerial Servant at the time, it was even better the time I got screwed by an Elder, but thats another story for another time.
