ok here is my situation, i met this girl that is a jw....she is not that heavily into her religion but we talked for a long time face to face and she is very hesitant on attempting to start a relationship.
so i have been researching for the past couple of days to undersatnd her religion and see if there is anything that i could use to dissuade her from saying no.
so last night we talked about the ifs, and buts, and such stuff like that.

was there ever anything positive from being a witness?
could you say that because you were a witness at least......or was it all negative?
I have learned how very important it is to do independent research on anyone or any group that claims to have simple answers for lifes complex problems BEFORE joining their cause.
I have learned that if you make the mistake of joining a cult such as the Watchtower, you and your loved ones will pay dearly for years and years to come.
I have learned to no longer be been a sit on the sidelines type of person, I take action now as the Dark and Evil Tower has transformed me into a fighting soldier. I now activity fight the will of the Tower by exposing their duplicity and hypocrisy to anyone and everyone I can, and by promoting such causes as silent lambs.
Yet somehow despite all these valuable lessons I have learned, I just cant bring myself to thank them.

Years ago I dated a JW girl and it was for the wrong reasons. I was immature at the time and in retrospect the only reason I dated her was for well you know how guys are, and even that was weird.
She would have me go places, like the parking lot of a restaurant, stop there and then bring her home. This was so she would not have to lie to her mom as to why she was getting home so late. She could just say we stopped here or there etc. after the movie or whatever. Strange, she could do stuff with a worldly boy that could get her DF, but she could not lie about it to her mom?
Once I went with her to a Sunday meeting, bad idea. I got loved-bombed but it did not take at the time and I bailed after she kept pressuring me to get more and more involved with her religion.
The good news is I saw her picture taken at some type of Born Again religious retreat up on the web a few months back. At least I know she is out of the WT cult, only hope her new religion is better, I sure it is as the WT is about as bad as it gets.
My advise, not that you asked; enjoy the ride but just make it clear that you will never become part of this religion and if he balks at that even slightly, BAIL, Do not walk, RUN, get the hell out of there ASAP!

Kick ass Barb and Joe! I wish I could be with you on that march too, but I have to be in Calif on the 27. Know that I and thousands of others will be with you in spirit just the same.

i was once counselled by the elders for watching 'knots landing'....it became widely known in the congregation that me and a few other sisters would rush home from field service to watch our favourite soapie.
if we missed it, we would ring each other up for an update...or...if we weren't near a tv we would ask someone to put the phone handset on the top of their tv so we could hear it...pathetic huh...but that was all the excitement we could scrounge up in our otherwise dull and uneventful lives.
one of the elder's wive's conscience got the better of her...and she confessed to her husband..lol.
The dumbest thing I was ever counseled for was meeting attendance, and that was back in 1987. At the time I was missing a few meetings now and then because I had to fly quite a bit. I was told that I had to make a choice between regular meeting attendance and a very high paying consulting contract with NASA. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me that was paying off all my bills and would end in just another month.
Thankfully I had the good sense to listen to wise counsel of these Elders and decide on a correct course of action for my family and me.
I havent been to a meeting in years and these Elders are still busting their backs cleaning houses and washing windows for peanuts while I surf the net most of the day and get paid a six-figure salary.
I cant thank these two Elders enough!

My living Bible says all of Jobs kids had a birthday celebration, each and every one had their own special day. So I guess if it was OK for god-fearing Job, why not others?

when i was a jw, i really couldn't stomach the watchtowers.
the only articles i would read would be for the family study/watchtower study.
it seemed so archaic and old-people-ish.. i did read the awake from cover to cover almost every time.
AWAKE has my vote. We were told reading the information printed in AWAKE is just as good as a college education. Be sure to put that on your resume next time you go looking for a job that requires a college degree.

had the usa known in advance that the wtc was going to be attacked, we could and should have taken preemptive action.
there was some 'fuzzy' knowledge that this might happen, but not enough to know the day or hour.
yet, we still could have should have done more to prepare.. we could wait until saddam hussein completes his weapons program, and then nukes a few cities to decide we have enough evidence on hand to go after him.
From what I see, the public is a bit divided on this issue. After September 12, I think many more here in the states will be onboard when president Bush in a UN address will present highlights of recent intelligence. Scary stuff I am told.
Unfortunately I dont have access to raw intelligence, however from what I have gleaned from my personal sources that do, Iraq, in the last 14 months or so has become more of a threat then they were over the last several years. Why? I am told it is because they have regained much of their lost weapon capability and also because of what they retained after the gulf war ended. Most people dont know this but before the gulf war, Iraq had a fully functioning atomic bomb casing. This is a very complex device but is useless without a fissionable payload. Before the gulf war, the only thing they needed to complete this weapon was enough fuel. They had some, but not enough.
One of the problems with Iraq is not their possession of nuclear or biological weapons, its their propensity to use them against their neighbors and those they have ideological differences with, i.e. Israel.
Many nations retain nuclear and some even have chemical and biological capability. However all nations to date have shown that the nuke, chemical and biological option is reserved as a very LAST option. Not so with Iraq. Is their anyone that seriously questions the fact that if Saddam has them he will use them, and that if he cant deliver them to his target, he will put them in the hands of those that can?
I pose this question; why are so many supposed supporters of the UN and its past sanctioned actions in Iraq now allowing virtually every important resolution of the UN signed with the Iraq government to continue to be flouted? Even the UN itself seems very reluctant to enforce its own resolutions. If it doesnt enforce it own resolutions, then exactly what is their function and why must my taxes pay for their continued existence?
One last point, the cessation of hostilities is a result of a surrender agreement, much of which the Iraqi government is now in clear violation of. So exactly what is to be done about that, nothing?
The credibility of all UN member nations and the UN itself is now on the line, and I question why other nations seem unprepared to put actions to their words and written agreements. I hate the thought of war, but I sincerely hope it will not be the US and possibly a reluctant Britain be the only nations to stand up once again. And shame on you all if it is.

i was talking with an athiest friend the other day and he brought up the subject of how society in general has been governed by the christian moral code.
some christians apparently predict chaos in society if an athiest moral code ever replaced the christian one.
this made me wonder....what is the athiest moral code?
Atheist, or more correctly agnostics, from my encounters with them are among the most moral and ethical people I know of. History is replete with religious people perpetrating some of the most heinous crimes against humanity known. Atheists have been known to also commit astonishing atrocities, however they come in a poor second in the bloodshed race.
Agnostics as distinguished from atheists, IMHO have the least blood on their hands. Im not an authority on the subject; these are just my observations.

in reply to your posts below, i thought a new post is merited.
it is really outstanding the transformation of persons who were associated with jws from neutral subjects to outright warmongers, especially those who used to profess brotherhood with christ.
while everyone is entitled to their opinions on matters of world politics, but to foster and promote bloodshed and destruction in the name of peace and pre-emptive defense runs jarringly against the grain of anything called christian.. .
Hello Defender,
I won't comment on to much of what you have said; however I do draw everyones attention to one statement you have made.
Furthermore, the US used chemical weapons in Vietnam, again when the US was not in any mortal danger.
I ask that you please show evidence of the above claim as the average American, let alone the much more informed American are apparently unaware of our governments use of chemical weapons during the Vietnam War.
I know my government has lots of secrets, of which some I am probably excluded, however I was wondering why someone like me, a US citizen with a security clearance well above top secret has never even heard that we used chemical weapons during the Vietnam War, yet you, a citizen of Canada somehow knows this astonishing information. Just wondering how this could be so.
Incidentally, next week my facility will be hosting an anti-terrorist task force, it has to do with the 9/11 anniversary; anyway their command center as it turns out will be in the room directly across the hall from me and I am told their will be a contingent of FBI, CIA, and NTSB agents occupying the room. So if I get the chance, perhaps I will ask one of these agents about this apparent cover-up our government has had going on all these years. Then again, maybe I wont as I dont want them to think Im some type of crackpot.
My suggestion to you is that you present your evidence for the statement you made, as failure to do so tends to make all other statements you may utter suspect and makes you look like, well a crackpot.
