  cost of hotel room for circuit assembly - $49 (watchtower rate).

  cost of new suit for district convention - $350.

  cost of new minivan for field service - $25,695.

  Cost of not contributing to a 401k (with employer matching funds) for many years because we would never grow old in this system, $350k-$425k

  Cost of turning down high paying jobs because they were defense and/or government related, at least $500k.

  Cost of being screwed by an elder, having to payoff his loan after he literally moved and stopped making payments on the loan I obtained for him to help him out of a jam, about $10k.

  Cost of not taking the advice of the elders to quit my NASA dream job and instead deciding to properly support my family, later going on to have an unbelievable working career (and no I’m not that smart, I was just greatly blest) playing a major role in the security of the Hubble Space Telescope, the US Marshals Witness Protection Program, protection of DEA and ATF agents working under cover, and now at 54 years of age, I am being trusted with the awesome and humbling responsibility of designing the next generation computer / network security system for the FAA’s air traffic control system. PRICELESS!!!

  some may remember, i wrote on an other thread that elders forbade me to give comments at the wt meeting, as i weaken the brothers' faith.

  i wasn't satisfied with this outcome and, 10 days ago i sat with my wife on the front part of the kh (like in many khs, attendants pack on the back seats), in the middle of the row, right in front of the wt elder, and raised my hand insistently.

  i was of course openly ignored but i didn't care, all that i wanted was verybody to see how they deal with independent members.

  I just thought of another really stupid thing I was told. Recovering from a miscarriage, my wife and I were corrected when we expressed our hope in seeing our lost child in the resurrection. We were told by two elders, "no Sara will not be resurrected, she never took her first breath, so in God’s eyes she was never a living soul”. L

  Re-read what I said, sorry it was meant to be humorous. I too understand what theory is. My feeble attempt at humor was based on knowing that (most) people regard a theory as less then a fact, contrasted with it’s usage in science as the explanation of the fact. Hence evolution, as you indicated, is indeed BOTH THEORY AND FACT, just like gravity.

  That I had to make a choice between regular meeting attendance, and properly providing for my wife and children, meeting attendance somehow being more important. This was the turning point; I remember the day exactly:

  The likely suspect in the case of viruses is Satan. How do we know this, because the watchtower society gives us insight into such matters. Here is some wisdom from the Golden Age:

  *Some people regard the common house-fly as comparatively harmless; but in point of fact it is one of the greatest disease carriers known.... One thing that tends to prove that the fly was originally created by the devil is that it loves every evil thing and hates every good thing. The odors that are most unpleasant to man,... are all pleasing to the fly....

  THE mosquito has a bad record. He it is that carries the germs of malaria, yellow fever, [and other diseases].... If you have a disease of any of the above varieties, the mosquito loves to come and bite you and poison you,.... Then he goes off and bites some luckless chap and injects the germs of your disease into him. And if that does not show the disposition of the devil, will you please point out something that does?...

  The Japanese beetle is said to be, at this time, our country's worst pest.... Perhaps the devil made this one, too; it looks like his work...

  Probably the Lord made some of the useful insects. No doubt the devil made some of the others. The Lord is the better architect...

  It’s not hard to extrapolate that the same devil that made the disease carriers also made the diseases themselves.

  i was offered a journalism scholarship at ohio state ... mom made me turn it down cause "armageddonwas near"... ended up a janitor!

  I was not raised in the Lie, but yes becoming a fool for the tower did cost me big $$$.

  It caused me to turn down a very high paying engineering position in the aerospace industry because a portion of the work was defense related at a time I was desperately in need of income. Instead I became a TV / VCR repairman deeply in debt. Years later after struggling to provide for my family, I was offered my dream job, (NASA engineer / security specialist). It was a test; the elders said I had to make a choice between providing for my family at the cost of irregular meeting attendance, or regular meeting attendance, while my family suffered. A choice between my dream job of developing and testing security systems of billion dollar satellites such as the Hubble, or cleaning out cockroaches from the inside of witnesses TV sets.

  I made the choice on July 4 th 1987, that was my independence day, and I have no regrets!

  This cult robs you of your hopes, your dreams, and sometimes even your life. I thank God each and every day that he has led me out of evil cult; it is now my mission to help others become free of its clutches.
