e-Work and e-School are indeed the wave of the future, and the reality of right now for me. As I type this brief note, I do so from my back deck, sipping my coffee, dressed in shorts and a t-shirt. I’m connected with a wireless connection to my home and internet provider. Plugged into one of the usb ports on my laptop is a magic jack and a desk type phone plugged into the jack. I’m smoking an Arturo Fuente Cuban Natural (my favorite Dominican cigar). I have a video streaming device hooked-up into my cable system and connected into my router streaming programs to my laptop on one window. On yet another window I have the guts of my latest project. I am working on the first cut design of what will soon be an Enterprise Wide Security Audit system for the next generation Air Traffic Control system for the FAA.
I’m not rich by any measure, but I do earn over 100k working out of my modest home on Long Island. The house is nothing extravagant, but it is comfortable and as I said it has a back deck that I work from during the summer. I’m on my deck doing my thing and earning a pretty good living; you can’t put a price on on the freedom I enjoy!
Two of my university degrees were earned almost entirely on-line, with some undergraduate work being credited via C.L.E.P. tests.
Here is some advise I will pass on, as far as school, make sure that whatever school you attend (virtually) that it has these two things going for it:
- It must be accredited by the department of education (in the US), preferably you want a school that has regional accreditation.
- Make sure that the virtual school also has a physical campus too.
The reason you want regional accreditation is so that it is easier to transfer to other schools should you wish to do so and it will be recognized as 100% legit by an employer. I my case, my employer paid my virtual school about 10k as part of their higher-education re-imbursement program. To qualify, it had to be regionally accredited.
The reason you want to choose a school that also has a brick and mortar campuses is because your degree will then be indistinguishable from any other obtained through that university. It is indeed the wave of the future and the future is here and now; I am living proof!
Go for it!!!
