today, for about two hours, i was scratching my head over one of those simple, but (at the time) completely unexplainable events.. a few days ago, i needed a sharpie, i had just bought a pack of 4 of them a few months back, and inevitably, they have all disappeared.
i never found one.. today, around noon, i was reading a textbook (molecular & cell biology for dummies), and took out my notebook to jot some notes down that i knew i'd forget.
i opened my desk drawer, and pulled out a pen - the only pen i keep in the desk drawer (along with a slide rule, 'pink pearl' eraser, and a 3.5" diskette even though i don't own any computer with a 3.5" drive anymore.

in the 80's a very righteous elder in our congregation was caught molesting his 2 stepdaughters.
he was df'd.
within 5 years he was 60 miles down the road serving as an elder in another congregation.

When an allegation of molestation is made, the first thing elders are instructed to do is contact the legal department of the watchtower. That is the standing instruction as of today 9/24/2009. IMHO you don’t need to know another thing about the watchtower organization or their beliefs, this one fact broadcasts loud and clear their true colors and agenda.

OK, I’ll play this JW game, let me list a few of the Pros and the Cons and see what we get:
Strange Game…. The only winning move in this JW game is not to play.
How about a nice game of chess?

Jeff,
It’s nice to see some like Serena are able to leverage their fame and fortune in such a way so that they can defy the Borg on a regular basis. I know the Brooklyn puppet masters just cringe every time she wraps herself in an American flag, flashes a little cleavage, or in her latest adventure, tells the ref to jam it. I love the fact that she allows herself to have an occasional human moment, and they can’t do a thing about it!

here is a goodbye thread for people who have decided to move on and leave jwn.
posting a message for everyone or just some..
Goodbye Reniaa,
All the best to you, may you find peace. And to help you find peace here is a short list of things to avoid:
1.) Independent Thinking. The Watchtower has explicitly said that this should be avoided at all costs, and if you wish to have a measure of peace in your new witness life, I suggest you take heed.
2.) Do not dwell on the fact that part of your donations to the Watchtower is being used to pay hush-money to victims of child rape. Also don’t think about some of those Watchtower donations being used at least in one case to pay for a defense lawyer of an already convicted child rapist directly by the Watchtower Society, defending him against further child rape charges.
If you just follow this advice you may have a measure a peace in your new or renewed Witness life. And if you can return to the Watchtower knowing about point #2, then God help you.

do you think this is really the wave of the future?.
would it be a good thing?.
is this just a natural progression of technology?.

e-Work and e-School are indeed the wave of the future, and the reality of right now for me. As I type this brief note, I do so from my back deck, sipping my coffee, dressed in shorts and a t-shirt. I’m connected with a wireless connection to my home and internet provider. Plugged into one of the usb ports on my laptop is a magic jack and a desk type phone plugged into the jack. I’m smoking an Arturo Fuente Cuban Natural (my favorite Dominican cigar). I have a video streaming device hooked-up into my cable system and connected into my router streaming programs to my laptop on one window. On yet another window I have the guts of my latest project. I am working on the first cut design of what will soon be an Enterprise Wide Security Audit system for the next generation Air Traffic Control system for the FAA.
I’m not rich by any measure, but I do earn over 100k working out of my modest home on Long Island. The house is nothing extravagant, but it is comfortable and as I said it has a back deck that I work from during the summer. I’m on my deck doing my thing and earning a pretty good living; you can’t put a price on on the freedom I enjoy!
Two of my university degrees were earned almost entirely on-line, with some undergraduate work being credited via C.L.E.P. tests.
Here is some advise I will pass on, as far as school, make sure that whatever school you attend (virtually) that it has these two things going for it:
The reason you want regional accreditation is so that it is easier to transfer to other schools should you wish to do so and it will be recognized as 100% legit by an employer. I my case, my employer paid my virtual school about 10k as part of their higher-education re-imbursement program. To qualify, it had to be regionally accredited.
The reason you want to choose a school that also has a brick and mortar campuses is because your degree will then be indistinguishable from any other obtained through that university. It is indeed the wave of the future and the future is here and now; I am living proof!
Go for it!!!

minimus started a thread asking people to prove that jws don't have the truth.... but, instead of proving they don't, i'd like to see someone prove that the witnesses do have the truth.. this is your thread jw apologists....convince me why you have the truth.. to all you apostates and nay-sayers, please allow the apologists to have their say without harrassing them.

Evidently, I hit a (political) sore spot with one of the mods who removed my post to this thread. Let’s see if he/she removes it again. Here is what I posted that was mysteriously removed:

Is this a joke?? That’s just too easy.
When a child is raped or otherwise sexually accosted, the first instruction is to call the Watchtower Legal Department; not the police, not a healthcare professional, but the legal department. That is all you need to know! You don’t need to know about their doctrines, you don’t need to know about their numerous prophecies and predictions that came and went unfulfilled. How they handle the most vulnerable among their own members, their spiritual family, tells you everything you need to know about them.
Sadly using that same reasoning we know everything we know about our new President. We know his own Aunt lives in poverty in a rat infested housing project, and that his flesh and blood brother lives in small shack on about $12.00 US a year. We don’t need to know if he is a democrat, republican, liberal or conservative. We don’t need to know if he is a Christian, Jew, or Muslim. All we need to know is how he takes care of his family, natural and/or spiritual.
How you treat family and innocent children says everything we need to know about you.
