One of the very last straws for me as an elder was the very sad case of a dear, elderly sister in our congregation who lost two sons within days. One had been ailing for quite some time and she was waiting for the call to tell her he was gone. The other son was younger, in good health, but he was disfellowshipped. There was a terrible accident and the younger son got killed. She was devasted as we can all imagine. She came to me and asked me to do the funeral. Two of the other three elders went through the roof when I said that I would do it. I had to call the C.O. who, after much muttering and saying nothing, said that I was not to do the funeral. I had to go back and tell the family that the Society would not allow it.
The family, most of which are witnesses, had to go find a minister (from Babylon the Great) who would do the funeral. A group of some one hundred people sat and listened to minister from an 'outside' religion give the funeral discourse. It was a woman preacher BTW and she did a good job and I told her so afterwards. I heard some people talking and they were asking why it was that her (the mother) preacher (me) wasn't doing the funeral for her son! Very bad witness! Some of our congregation did not even show up because the man was DF'd. Never mind the poor mother who needed all the comfort she could get. I stayed with the family throughout the whole ordeal and my wife and I went back to the mother's house after the funeral. One of her daughters gave her a pill to help her sleep and as she was getting up to go to bed, the phone rang. Her other son had just died. She almost went mad with grief. This time I was permitted to do the funeral because this man was baptized and in good standing.
There was even more confusion on the part of the community inasmuch as they had seen me as a spectator at the first funeral and now I was doing the second funeral. This angered me considerable and I almost walked out right then and there. -

Getting In those Hours!
by Andyman ini have a conversation going on another site about hours and how important they are to a persons standing within the congregation.. one person is trying to say that hours don't mean anything.
that they are not that big of an issue whether you get them in or not.. would anyone here like to comment on that?.
take care.. andyman:

I agree that this is yet one more instance of double talk. Hours figure in very prominently in your standing with the congregation. Low hours from servants will be tolerated (in some congregations) for a period of time but rest assured that you have better have a good reason for it and you had better correct it soon. But this varies a lot from congregation to congregation and also on the C.O. I have to say that our last two C.O.'s were very understanding in that respect.

JW preaching work to end in the 20th Century
by Scorpion inpage 12 of the january 1, 1989 wt magazine paragraph 8 ends with the statement that the apostle paul's missionary activity laid a foundation for a work that would be completed in our 20th century.".
i take this as subtle prophecy that 'the end' will come by the year 2000 a.d., or should have come by now.. i find it interesting that the bound volume reprint has the wording changed to read, " a work that would be completed in our day.".
does anyone know why the change?

I'm smiling, katchoo, because one of the people I showed this to said the exact same thing! No kidding. They reminded me that the new millenium doesn't start until next year.
Does the insanity never end? -

About the 89 WT quote.
by Xandit infrenchy, i actually read the article in the 89 watchtower the following quote comes from.. w89 9/1 19 remaining organized for survival into the millennium.
"7 only jehovahs witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the "great crowd," as a united organization under the protection of the supreme organizer, have any scriptural hope of surviving the impending end of this doomed system dominated by satan the devil.".
reading the article it appears to me that the statement, pretty direct as i said in one of my other posts, is based on the understanding of the status of sheep and goats at that time.

Dear Xandit. I believe that the girls here have done an excellent job of describing the situation. I'm glad that you are researching, Xandit. I take it that you are serious about this matter. The change of doctrine on the sheep and the goats, however, has nothing to do with that statement. When that time of separation (judgment) comes, regardless of how long before the actual outbreak of Armageddon, whether for the past fifty years or just two days before, what will happen to those that are not JW, according to the WTS? The question dealt with who will survive Armageddon, not when a person will be judged. The change of doctrine about the sheep and the goats was, in all respects, a meaningless change. It changed nothing about our worship. For decades this guilt trip was put on the publishers that the separating work was going on and it was our God assigned obligation to preach the kingdom so that people could identify themsleves as sheep or goats. With that out of the window they knew that something had to be done to keep the flock out in the field so I will quote from that same article:
While the judging as described in the parable is in the near future, even now something vital is taking place. We Christians are engaged in a lifesaving work of proclaiming a message that causes a division among people.
Did you pick up on that? WTS language trick. We are not longer invoved in a separtaing work now we are involved in a dividing work! Pray tell, what is the difference? And please note the phrase used in this sentence which calls our work 'lifesaving'. If a person is not going to be destroyed for not being one of us, how is it we are saving his life by making him one of us? Double talk. WTS language.
Now just to show that this attitude has not changed please note some quotes I posted on another thread. These are from 1997, after the sheep goats thing was changed.W97 --There is only one religious organization on this earth that has all these marks of true Christianity- Jehovah's Witnesses! (italics theirs)
Then there is the 1997 km which has this to say:
"...he cannot serve God without actively associating with the true Christian congregation."
So you see, Xandit, nothing has changed. The fact that a great many Witnesses do not really believe this is not proof of the fact that this is being taught by the WTS. Many Witnesses DO believe it as evidenced by the example given on this thread about a mother worrying over her son. I have personal experience with many Witnesses worried sick about their unbelieving mates and children dying at Armageddon. This is further evidence of the double talk. Some witnesses are evidently not picking up on the language as well as it was intended. And contrary to what a lot of people say about Witnesses, we are not all zombies. A goodly portion of our ranks actually do think... they are just afraid of saying so! -

A Lie, Insight Book or Webster's Dictionary?
by waiting ininsight book, page 244-245: "lie.
the opposite of truth.
lying generally involves saying something false to a person who is entitled to know the truth and doing so with the intent to deceive or to injure him or another person.

Now, now ladies calm down. The next thing you'll be saying is that the WTS 'encyclopedia' is re-defining words again as justification for a few 'witheld' facts from its members!
Was that what Abraham was doing when he made his wife say that she was his sister? I thought he was lying cause he was scared witless! And when Rehab lied about the two spies and thereby became a traitor to her city...she was not really lying, just witholding information.
Ah well, if ever I'm cornered in a lie, I now have the information to get out of it! -

I re-read that article a few months ago. Fortunately I was able to get a copy of the magazine and scan that part. I showed it to a few people and they were shocked that it had been changed in the bound volume.

waiting, I applaud your courage and your tenacity. I will not, cannot, say that I know how you feel because I did not experience what you did. All I can do is imagine it from a safe distance. I don't have to live with the memories that you do. No human was ever meant to experience what you did and so it is no wonder that your mind has no 'natural' defense or healing process for what was never supposed to happen. YET, YET you have stayed in the game with the deck stacked against you and with the players cheating and you have persevered. You have placed your wagers and watched things belonging to you unlawfully and wrongfully taken from you and yet you have not left your chair. You are still placing your bets. And every now and then, even though statistically it can't happen, you pull in a pot and you smile to yourself and although no one else knows what it cost you for that small victory, no one can imagine just how much of yourself you risked for so small a gain, you know that you are not and never will be defeated.
It's not how far in life you get that matters, it's how hard you had to fight for every inch that you gained. I've had my own particular battle as I'm sure the rest of our friends here have had theirs. I applaud all of you for staying in the game. Win or lose, we're not losers!
I don't pretend to know what the grand scheme of things is. But if there is a God and this is a test then I want to go on record and say that some of us have had one hell of an examination! -

Dubby, you said: [quote]Has anyone seen their website on car sales? You can get a free "no blood" key chain if you buy a car from them! Of course they can finance the car for you.{/quote] Are you serious about this? Are they doing that? I heard something about that somewhere else but I dismissed it as just a joke. Is there such a site and can you give us the address?
